This RIVALRY NEEDS to be SAVED...| The History of Bedlam (Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State)

  • Bedlam is one of the greatest sports rivalries in all of college football. It is the name of the Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State matchup. A game that always feels like it comes down to the wire whether it be for a spot in the conference championship game or just for pride. It is one of my favorite games to watch year in and year out. Yet due to conference realignment, this may be the end of the 118-year rivalry. But can we save it? This is the History of Bedlam, the rivalry that needs to be saved.

UAB fan here. Traveling 10hrs from Birmingham to Stillwater this weekend just to experience the last addition of one of college footballs greatest and one of my favorite rivalry games from the stands! This rivalry game is too beautiful to lose, and I hope that the fans of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State both stand up in demand of their middle school age acting athletic directors to get their act together and make it work. If Florida/Florida State, Clemson/South Carolina, Louisville/Kentucky, Apparently Washington/Washington state, West Virginia/Pittsburgh, among others can work… So can this one!
PS: hopefully the Cowboys can boom some sooners ass because nobody likes them!

@@jdwilmoth yes, I am aware the series is lopsided. That being said, a rivalry is still a rivalry. Don’t know if you understand soccer or not, but I will give a soccer example. Nottingham forest and knots County are bigger rivals. Nottingham forest play in the Premier league, the top division on the English pyramid, and not county just got promoted from the fifth division last season to the fourth division after spending quite some time in the fifth tier. There’s obviously a money and talent gap and on the few instances, but they have been able to play over the past couple of decades. It has been very lopsided results. That does not mean that they hate each other any less and that is not a rivalry gay. Regardless of how lopsided a rivalry is, it still needs to be cherished and saved.

OU chose to leave and didnt give OSU heads up before they scheduled their non-conference games. OSU is booked for the next 15 years, and I personally see no reason that they should pay rescheduling fees because of a move that they weren't informed of and had no say in. If Oklahoma wants to foot the rescheduling bill, then maybe something can be done, but that can't be on the Cowboys to do. Oklahoma made the decision to leave knowing it would disrupt or end bedlam, and now they're trying to shift the blame to Oklahoma State because the OSU admin. refuses to clean up a mess that they didn't create.

At the end of the day part of the reason this historic rivalry is ending is because OSU realized how little OU cared about them. Whenever realignment was discussed in the past it was always talked about as OU and Texas leaving for somewhere and never was OSU seriously considered to be leaving with them. Because, with OU and Texas despite their hatred for each other; they had a bond that was very tight to the point where it was always if one goes the other does too. OSU always wanted to be a part of those convos but knew it never had leverage in anything because their biggest sport (wrestling) just never brought any real revenue compared to Basketball & Football.

Man by the looks of these comments there’s a whole lot of sooner folk that claim “superiority”, “championship business”, “we’re above them” 😂 acting like they themselves are actively contributing to the Sooners’ football team, other than selling out Walmart’s supply of XXXL tshirts I guess. This is why we love when they lose, because when you’re a flagship bandwagon fan you expect not to lose and boy do they make a scene. Go Pokes 🤠

Meh as an OSU Alum its not a big deal, OU didn't have to leave. You should call them and tell them to put OU back in the big 12, or stop crying when they leave.

The truth about it is it doesn't matter if we left and didn't give OSU a heads up we were never worried about OSU they are a meaningless rivalry they actually mean less now they're not good OSU chokes every time they play in a big 12 title game they can't even win a title so to be honest Oklahoma did the right thing leaving OSU behind because in my opinion OSU is never going to go anywhere as long as they have Mike Gundy as their head coach now if they fire him and bring in a young coach to be the head coach then there's hope for OSU but until then I don't want to hear anything about OSU they don't matter and no one cares about them and it doesn't matter that they beat us on our last year either that means less now and it's in the past OSU can keep their Bedlam trophy because Oklahoma prize that they have their eyes on is the SEC title and the national championship they're only going to get that if they get tougher in the SEC because SEC rules yeah baby

The amount of money spent on the ou football program is around 220 million, while osu is around 90 million. If the game comes down to a point or two just about every year with a david and Goliath feel, that is a rivalry.

    • @donleonard4446

@@chrisodom5210not really if you beat them 70% of the team. OU was dominating them in the 2010’s. It’s only good when OSU gets a sneaky win like in 2014. But that a rare occasion. It’s similar to Alabama vs Auburn. OU vs Texas the wins feels different bc the level OU and Texas is at. Bedlam just ain’t the same

Keep telling yourself that. OK-State is scheduled out for the next fifteen years. If OU wanted to pay the cancelation fees for breaking the contracts with Oregon, Alabama, Arkansas, etc., then we might entertain renewing the game. It just depends on if OU wants to pay to lose more games.
