When I tell people that Pinocchio was originally an Italian story, they're surprised until they think of the names like Pinocchio,Geppetto,Stromboli and even Monstro.
A great many Disney films have used old European styles for the backgrounds which is understandable given the rich history of story telling and architecture dating back in many cases thousands of years.
He doesn’t scare me at all. He never did, especially now that I know that was Thurl Ravenscroft doing the voice. I wish the whale had some speaking roles in the film though.

However in the Italian Pinocchio, “Stromboli” is “Mangiafuoco”, and “Monstro” has no name, it’s just a whale 😂
