SHAMGAR AND THE OX GOAD: ISRAEL'S UNLIKELY HERO [JUDGES OF ISRAEL 3/14]

After the death of Ehud, who brought eighty years of peace to Israel, the people once again disobeyed God and were oppressed by the Philistines. In this context, Shamgar, the son of Anath, arose as the third judge of Israel. With courage and ingenuity, Shamgar used an ox goad, an agricultural tool, to kill six hundred Philistines and save Israel. His story highlights God's power in empowering those He chooses, bringing peace and relief to the people of Israel.
