i absolutely loved butterfly 3000. its such an endearing, honest and confident pop album. their music has always been effortlessly fun and enjoyable to me, but this is a whole new level. i knew that they had a synth album in them, and I'm so glad this is the one we got!
Michael ‘Cavs’ Cavanaugh is the drummer, thought I should also mention that he is releasing his own solo drumming album soon. He did a little teaser called ‘T2JD’ if you’re interested in more of his specific work, it is 9 mins of his drumming
Polygondwanaland is a full masterpiece. One of my favorite things about KGATLW is singing along. The complexity is out of this world. It's virtuosic composition by practiced musicians with the whole planet and beyond as inspiration. The microtones instantly set them apart, as it shows one of the multiple layers they work on as artists. They paint on the whole canvas, the easel, and the room they're standing in. Oh and that rhythmic nod is fucking perfection with so many of their tracks. On rattlesnake, my instinct is to rotate my head like a snake's tail.
Dude, you HAVE to at least listen to the FIVE ENTIRE FULL LENGTH LP’s that they put out in 2017. They’re all very distinct musical projects and each is absolutely deserving of your time, even if they don’t all appeal to your tastes. It was basically the golden year for KGLW. I get the idea of being a critic of everything 2018 onward, but you’re really missing out if you don’t give them a listen, even if you don’t do reviews for them
Man, you gotta review that show next year, I'm sure is gonna blow your mind PS: you're becoming my favorite channel for music review since I discovered you when you uploaded that The Wytches video, I love your content, professor
Yours is by far my Jammy Jam, it really is for me the standout track that showcases everything great about the album in one song and it reminds me of good memories
Great review! I love this album because it's so bright and warm and summery and happy. I sometimes have trouble finding happy music so Butterfly 3000 is really refreshing. :)
KGWL has a good Bandcamp page where you can buy all of their music. If you follow them there you can get notified every time they release new music & merch.
Professor Ive had difficulties with an overactive brain my own life. Doing therapy, meditation, yoga. Trying my best to sort it out. A couple of years ago I started a process I call weed therapy where I get stoned and journal. It takes me to a place I cant access otherwise. Feelings and memories get blown up to place where I can analyse them better and I really work things out by myself. Nothing has been nearly as effective. And let me be clear when I began it wasnt enjoyable. It was hard work because I found weed a bit overwhelming. Ive only done mushrooms once which was a completely different but amazingly theraputic experience as well. AND to close my speech I got Butterfly 3000 for the first time when I was stoned. I got lost in it.
@@noelc8927 Have you heard the "Gumboot Soup" album and not like that one? "Gumboot Soup" is one of my favorites. One of the best things about KGWL is how many different sounds they like to explore. Not all KGWL albums are great, but they are quite prolific and very diverse in styles, so they likely have something for everyone somewhere within their catalog.
How? If anything, this is one of their more "Pop" albums, and more pleasing to the average listener. All of the songs are quite mellow and happy on this one
Stu is having us on, he knows that "Interior People" is actually about the Ego, the monkey mind that keeps us distracted, take a look at the lyrics! In fact, although these lads probably take a lot of substances, this album is not about that at all. Insert obvious butterfly metaphor.
I’m sorry I know I’m like years late to this vide but your profile pic is A DON ELLIS ALBUM! I’m glad to know I’m not the only overlap between King Gizzard and Don Ellis fans.
Shanghai is my jammy jam. I know it’s hard to hear the lyrics but it’s so euphoric to me. Ambrose is the other guy singing on it and his part is my favorite.
Yeah, you really have to go listen to Paper Mache Dream Balloon, Polygondwanaland, Sketches of Brunswick East, Etc. For the softer side Nonagon Infinity is a masterpiece, infinitely looping etc. there’s so many classics you still haven’t heard.
Your honesty is appreciated but what specifically your issue with weed for example?Like a using mind altering drugs is immoral in principle kind of thing?
But professor I am the hippie-dippie But seriously tho I get what you mean, I still can’t help but love and deeply(maybe a tad too much) connect with King Gizz lyrics maybe as someone who’s most thoughts are just kinda like “that” even tho I am not very esoteric and stuff Love you reviews more each time
You don't have to cross your eyes looking at the Magic eye album cover. Its not advisable to cross your eyes at all. What are you talking about? Where did you get that idea from? You can just look at the album cover normally and be album to see it. But if your like me, who has a lazy eye, probably not be able to see it.
Interior People is about Covid?? I can get not seeing the ideas behind the more abstract songs, but man… great review otherwise!, but I feel as though your interpretation of lyrics can be a bit lacking

my favorite song on the album at the moment is catching smoke, but yours and the title track are close behind

I was stunned and moved.
the shortest 9 minutes of my life, an absolute masterwork

I counted the butterflies on the cover, it took me approximately 7 hours, to double check, and yes there is 3000 on there
Wow, cool. I’m glad you did
@@professorskye The best and most productive band on the planet deserves the extra love :)

if you only know king gizzard from 2018 and onward then you still have to review Fishing for Fishies and Infest the Rats Nest ;)
Add Nonagon Infinity to said list as well lol
@@januskami8800 nah thats before 2018
Bandcamp is where I buy their music.
Rats Nest and Fishies are good examples of Stu/Ambrose/Joey talking (singing) and thinking about clearly identifiable topics and concerns.
interior people and catching smoke are my jammy jams on here
Loved your review. Complicated head nod is my favorite part of KGLW.

Near the top of my favourite King Gizz albums for sure. As you said, a very fun album. Blue Morpho is my jam, love the thumping synth hook.

For a critic, I think the whole 2018+ idea is good. But as a music listener and someone who enjoys KGATLW this is A TRAVESTY
i didnt like it either lmao
For me this is actually the 3rd album of theirs I can listen from front to back and fully enjoy. The other two being Nonagon and Rats Nest.

My Favourite is definitely shanghai. the chorus is just such a feel good kinda vibe
Ok but you need to hear PAPER MACHE DREAM BALLOON

Please listen to their previous records. Please
The lads know what they're about!
It's Shanghai and Black Hot Soup for me. And Blue Morpho, but that's mainly because I'm a sucker for most things Radiohead :)
Wow butterfly 3000 is crazy hypnotic! i get butterflies in my head everyday. KGLW is a disease.

OH… MY… GOD… GUYS HE DID IT!
I reckon if you listened to their entire discography you might change your view that they are not one of the best musical acts in the world.
Every song is my Jimmy Jam on this album
Just bought the album with my Patreon money.

That is a thing though, not the crossing eyes but rather them slowly refocusing afterwards is supposed to help

Why let yourself miss out on pre 2018 Gizz. Pre 2018 is their best work!
*So far
your decision of not listening to their past work is not wise, imo. Cool review!
"I don't know if they're one of the best music acts..." Are you nuts? You'd put a shitty DJ ahead of KG?
This band is for ppl who thought or still think Elon Musk is gonna save the world
