Woodturning: What to do with this log ❓

- A superb process for making a luxurious object from a seemingly uninteresting log.
In this video on woodturning, you will see the complete process of making a Japanese tea box, respecting the rules of the art.
The finish is done with a natural dye and carnauba wax.
The inside of the box is left raw in order to preserve the tea in a healthy atmosphere.
The cubic box at the end of the video intended to protect and present the tea box is also made by me from walnut stained plywood.
This traditional turning project is accessible to beginners who know how to use woodworking machines.
I film some of my creations in my workshop, in a relaxed ASMR-type atmosphere, in order to share my ideas and techniques with you.

Un superbe procédé pour fabriquer un objet luxueux à partir d'une bûche apparemment inintéressante.
Dans cette vidéo sur le tournage sur bois, vous verrez le processus complet de fabrication d'une boîte à thé japonaise, dans le respect des règles de l'art.
La finition est réalisée avec une teinture naturelle et de la cire de carnauba.
L'intérieur de la boîte est laissé brut afin de conserver le thé dans une atmosphère saine.
La boîte cubique à la fin de la vidéo destinée à protéger et présenter la boîte à thé est également réalisée par mes soins en contreplaqué teinté noyer.
Ce projet de tournage traditionnel est accessible aux débutants sachant utiliser les machines à bois.
Je filme certaines de mes créations dans mon atelier, dans une ambiance décontractée de type ASMR, afin de partager avec vous mes idées et mes techniques.

I'm nearly lost for words, how beautiful is that complete package. I was intrigued at the start as to the finished piece but was not really prepared for the unveiling. The "Jar" is a piece of art, it was good to see the X-Tool in use. The box was a bonus, thanks Morgan you have shown us what can be achieved from a simple log. Fantastic post 👍

I do a bit of turning also. You make it look easy. Knowing that each cut is a one shot deal, without a fall back available… showcases your skill. The beauty of it altogether gives me chills!!!
What type of wood was that? The closest native wood that we have here (USA) is Osage Orange. But, it is far too hard to turn with such ease. It will burn up both steel and carbide cutters.

The wood I used is chestnut because this type of wood lends itself well to this project.
On the other hand, chestnut is not easy to work with because it is very stringy.
