    Mostly correct, just a few additions/corrections.
    In radio comms, the format is always : intended recipient (Alpha 1-1), the person talking (Overlord), the content of the message. Doesn't matter if it's a cessna talking to ATC or a jet getting info from awacs.
    During a normal long range fight, AWACS will at first talk in reference to bullseye to help everyone with situational awareness, and once fighters commit to a threat/bandit, comms will start to use BRAA format uing the fighters as reference, since it's easier for the pilots to understand mentally, and helps with pointing sensors and eyes in the right direction, especially considering the pace of engagements.
    Tracking refers to the track the bandit is flying, to further help with general situational awareness. Track is basically the direction he's flying in, hence the "north" here.
    Fast usually denotes the bandit is not just cruising waiting to get shot at, he's going somewhere fast, and more than likely about to deliver some hurt somewhere.

      Remember..
      Hey [YOU] this is [ME], this is my [MESSAGE] over/out.
      Over - Expecting a response
      Out - Not expecting a response.
      NEVER THE TWO TOGETHER!

    An addition to joker fuel: it isn't just some arbitrary amount of fuel to spare after landing, but rather is the point at which disengagement should be made or engagement avoided. If you're in the middle of a dogfight and reach bingo fuel, you would have to immediately run away which is begging to be shot in the back when you run. Instead you need to disengage carefully and joker fuel is the point at which you still have time to do so before reaching bingo fuel.

    • @Dirtygoggles
      @Dirtygoggles ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Joker will also refer to a specific time to return to base in general since there will more than likely be a queue of people trying to land so airfields will tend to have designated times that it wants you back to the Airfield. So a very easy way to remeber is Bingo is always FUEL LEFT, vs Joker TIME LEFT

    3:09 “Angels” only refer to the altitude of a FRIENDLY unit. A person used to GCI talk can mistakenly believe the unit is not a hostile, instilling confusion. So, one must say “angels 12” for friendlies ONLY, and “12 thousands“ otherwise. Source: Tactical Pascale’s channel (in which you can learn a lot more about tracking and other terminology).

    Some references:
    Fast is a speed reference meaning greater than Mach 1. Very Fast is used for the occasional aircraft that is tracked going over Mach 2. Without one of these callouts, assume the aircraft is going at a high subsonic speed.
    Tracking means the direction the track is going, in this case, North.

      Thanks for the info! I realized after making this that my assumption for tracking was correct (ignore the text I put on screen there). The clarifications for fast and very fast are also useful!

    From what i've seen, paveway is used to refer to laser-guided bombs (though using pickle for all makes sense too) and as a little fun fact fox-4 can be used in replacement of guns, guns, guns; but is never used.

    the AIM-120s in VTOL can also be guided with a TWS (track while scan) lock. You can tell if you have a target in a TWS lock if it has a 1, 2, 3, or 4 on your radar display page. You only have to hard lock a target to designate a missile for it, you can then unlock it and keep it in TWS after you’ve shot a fox 3.
    This is really helpful as it doesn’t make your target’s RWR scream at the pilot during the missile’s flight :D

    I enjoyed the video, just picked up VTOL the other day and can't wait to try it! Pickle is used for dumb bomb typically, Paveway is used for Laser guided bombs. Fast is in reference to speed usually anything going supersonic (Mach1). Tracking is used for a few things, but coming from an AWAC's usually means it's direction of travel.

  • @OnlineMaster03
    @OnlineMaster03 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Tracking is the direction the target is heading towards (not its heading from or to a given point) and fast just means the target is fast. Don’t know exactly when this applies but my guess would be somewhere around or over mach 1

    I'll assume the meaning of 'fast' in the phrase means the speed which the target is moving at (most likely above 200 kt) if so, there's probably a 'slow' meaning for a slow moving target e.g. some random vtol craft hovering or a helicopter

    • @ScientistMan96
      @ScientistMan96 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In the video's context, that's exactly what it means. There are several munitions that can lock well before they can engage, such as the ARM/HARM missiles, so you get the lock, then wait for your aircraft to say "Shoot", which means the selected ordinance is within accurate range.
      It's also used for bomb drops when using some form of guidance system, even if only a predicted impact point for a freefall bomb.

    In reference to bingo fuel, you can set this level manually in the options menu of the MFD alongside the altitude warnings. When you select a fuel level it will give a range of distances you can reach to land safely depending on how efficiently you are flying.

    In my opinion one of the most important callouts, and one missing from this game, is "raygun"
    You call this out when locking a target which you're not sure is friendly or hostile
    If you're locked and someone calls put "raygun" you respond "buddy spike" as a form of manual IFF
    You can also call out buddy spike unprompted if necessary, and in this game it's often necessary, and nobody seems to know what it means

    **edit 2: tracking does indeed mean the direction the target is moving, thanks for clarification everyone! I'm gonna do a follow-up to this video soon where I'll be sure to go back over the terms I was unsure about as well as some new ones.
    **edit: i believe pickle does refer to all freefall ordinance which includes guided bombs. Also, I think tracking does mean the direction of the target but I still need to look into this one a bit more. I'll probably make a second video with a few more terms and if I do I'll cover that again.
    I couldn't find whether "pickle" refers to only dumb bombs or all bombs, but I'm pretty sure it is meant to reference dumb bombs. Regardless, the point of brevity codes is to convey information quickly so either way people will know what you mean.

    As one of the voice actors for the AWACS in VTOL, you are right in that the declared word is 'Tracking', and it is used for declaring the direction of flight aircraft take.
    That being said - Arizona is the code word for having expended all ARMs. :)

    The brevity code for "Tracking" means [EW]-electronic warfare [S/A]-surface to air IR lock-on.
    Edit: Basically the AWACS or SAM site has a lock on and is tracking the target and the direction where the target is.

      I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE I FORGOT THAT ONE!!
      Splash just means kill. Splash bandit means that person shot down a jet. Splash one/two/etc. is a way of counting kills in an engagement.
      Not important but fun fact, the term comes from World War II where one of the only ways to actually confirm that a plane was out of the fight was to watch it crash into the ocean, hence splash.

    I want to point out that in this game when they say "fast mover" they are directly referring to any fixed-wing aircraft, be it jet-powered or otherwise. You also see this in Arma 3 when they say "contact, fast-mover". You don't call a helicopter a fast-mover. At the end, when they say "Fast", THAT means they are, in-fact, moving fast.
