This easy-to-use method of color grading kind off works like split toning in Lightroom or the camera raw editor of Photoshop. You specifically target shadows, mid-tones and highlights of an image and add a specific color tone to the selected luminance range. This way you can very precisely adjust the colors and give the photo the look you desire.
Here is a very brief break down:
1. Open photo in photoshop
2. Add the gradient map adjustment layer
3. set the blending mode to overlay (or any other blending mode of the overlay-section)
4. Reduce the opacity of the adjustment layer to your liking
5. Add colors to the shadows, highlights and mid-tones by adjusting the gradient map -

Thank you!
Instead of "Overlay" blend mode at 30% opacity, start with "Soft Light" blend mode and adjust.
Thanks for the feedback Michael! I played around with soft light as well, I just love the harsher effect of the overlay blending mode for this particular photo :-)
"How do you know I'm German?" :D .. Nice tutorial!

Hi. When I hit “gradient map” I don’t get the black and white layer I get a contrast logo next to it with colours in my image covering its entirety. Any ideas? Thanks.
Hey, I'm not sure what this looks like actually, can you share a screenshot maybe?
@@ThePhlogPhotography fixed it. Let’s put it down to user error, thanks for the reply 👍
can we do this in mobile
I never used PS mobile so I cant tell you, sorry :(
Lckd
Your channel is very educational, but sometimes you go too fast and I don't see what you click on. I would like it if you slowly show what you click on and what this function does. I like to watch your channel via mobile, but then everything is very small and I do not see what you click on. 🖐️🖐️
Thank you sooo much for the feedback! I often feel Like I'm going through everything too slow. I will try to make it clearer what I'm doing :-)
