It took a while but I finally finished watching this. Thank you so much for bringing us this incredible interview, Reece! An Autechre soundtrack for Prime would've been amazing.
I remember reading an old interview with Clark Wen where he said something about basically putting together a mixtape of different songs to help show Yamamoto-san the direction Retro wanted for the Prime soundtrack, which included some film scores and experimental electronic music, but I've always wondered more specifically what was in there. Really glad he at least mentioned Autechre as a key influence on Prime. What could have been... Thanks for doing all these Metroid Prime videos, they've all been really enjoyable and interesting! You're a really good interviewer.
Wow this man is a master of fitting in the soundscape to elevate the experience. The sound design in prime was masterful.I always wondered who is the face of this beautiful soundtrack.I spent hours slowly exploring because of the sound .It is and always be magical. This man and the composer changed many lives for the better.
@@KIWITALKZ Tell them you know the Ostrich and they'll respond. Lol jk. But seriously, if you get Mark Pacini then ask him for more details on Kraid in Prime 1 and if he really was intended to appear in the room where you fight the Omega Pirate. Time to solve this 20 year old mystery.
Plot twist: His next interview is actually with Kensuke Tanabe and he'll ask him what he was smoking when he decided to make the boost ball guardian so hard.
I just have to thank you for doing this podcast! You're a really good interviewer and I've learned so much from listening to all these interesting conversations. Would be really cool if you could try to get Ludvig Forssell, Will Roget and Sarah Schachner on sometime! :D
Amazing Interview as always. The Metroid Prime stuff is always so interesting simple because even though Metroid was a big franchise, the game itself was kinda like going into uncharted teretory. The soundtrack and sounddesign are amazing in Prime. Kudos to Clark Wen and everybody involved!
Aww you actually made the sakamoto question! :). That was wonderful as usual, his choice of composer for mp4 is very cool, and the dread part is spicy! Lets do some black magic so mark pacini will accept lol
Thanks for another great interview! For those interested, I captured the ambience described by Clark at 28:38 - th-cam.com/video/Fq-aoN62K54/w-d-xo.html.
I really hope he well be working on Metroid prime 4 him and the people he worked with is what makes the game for me. I hope he well have some involvement
Interesting seeing his take on dread. I quite like it's music even though it's not as iconic as the older games. But admittedly it's based off samus returns which left a lot to be desired
The damage moans in Prime 1 and 2 were "too sexual?" Then how in the world did the Prime 3 SFX make it past Nintendo, because Samus is a lot, uh, "louder" in that game.
So I have a question for Clark Wen. Or anyone who can perhaps field this. One that has to account for NDAs and potential preproduction nonsense that Clark may have never dealt with. See, there's this ugly rumor that someone else had been chosen to do sound design before any of the credited staff came in. And this upstart showboating superstar-wannabe claims to not only have gotten advice directly from Shigeru Miyamoto, but for _"reasons unspecified"_ was removed from the project. Can anyone determine if said rumor has anything resembling a grain of truth? The person in question is a known narcissist, so I wouldn't be surprised in the slighest if they only speak such things as to pad their own (false) resume of accomplishments.

Clark's an amazing sound designer. One of the hardest working people in the business. Great interview.
Loved your interview as well! Thanks for the killer games
It took a while but I finally finished watching this. Thank you so much for bringing us this incredible interview, Reece! An Autechre soundtrack for Prime would've been amazing.
As a programmer who knows little to nothing about sound design, this talk is super inspirational! Sound Design is really an art form in its own right!

Thanks for doing all these Metroid Prime videos, they've all been really enjoyable and interesting! You're a really good interviewer.
Prime was one of the first games where I really started noticing a game's sound design. I love it so much. Thank you for all your hard work, Clark!
This was very interesting.
Metroid Prime series have some of the best sound tracks in gaming.

Yeah man, totally! Otherwise try to interview some of the Metroid Dread guys at Mercury.

The Prime Trilogy has some of my favorite sound design of all time. Absolutely loved this interview!
The Metroid Prime games have some of the best music I've ever heard in a video game. I could listen to it all day every day.
Man Clark is so chill, and these interview questions are so sharp!
These interviews are great, I've learned so much

Beat all MP games; I love the title screen theme of MP1.
