  • A water pump (well pump) might get air in the inlet pipe which might prevent it from pumping water. This video shows how to fix this problem.

    This process is called priming by opening the priming nut to get the air out of the pump. One of the best examples illustrated online. I can see where people are getting their household problems solved, this has now taught me the concept in a more practical manner for my engineering vivas!

    • @syedmarufulhuq
      @syedmarufulhuq  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Priming, yes! You pour water to create a air tight chamber between the pump and the water source. Basically that air tight chamber becomes a siphon.
      Appreciate you taking time to leave a nice comment.

    Omg 😆. So I just got back home from vacation and the pump was tripping off because of no suction. I panicked because the pump was new. So I came across this video, screwed off the prime screw and filled it up then walla. 💦 for the household again. 🤗 thanks man. 👍🏾.
    Oh my fiancé came outside looking at me like I’m crazy because I was doing this at 2:30am.
    Thanks again my new found friend !

    OMGosh!! We bought a gasoline pump (predator) at Harbor Freight. After multiple tries, it still wouldn't pump. My husband loaded it up, took it back. They said nope. So, after he called and told me that, I thought I'd troubleshoot it on the internet. I watched several videos and then came to this one. I'm so glad I did!! It worked like a charm! I put plumbers tape on the threads, then tightened the hose clamps, wrapped the pipe and fittings with foil, then we primed the pump the way you said! BOOM!! In about 10 seconds that thing was pumping so fast it took about 2 minutes to empty the ditch. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! We just knew we had wasted our money on that pump, but thanks to your video, we got it working!!

    I've struggled for 4 hours to get my pump to work, and tried doing and googling everything possible until I found your video. Worked like a charm. Thank you!
    Note: You probably want to close the valve/screw you'd use to fill the pump with water to the brum before you start it up. Starting it up open just shot water everywhere.
    It is worth putting pump at slightly different angles when pouring the water in to make sure the water really gets everywhere.

      Not sure how I have missed replying to your comment earlier, I usually respond as soon as I read them.
      Yes, if you don't put the plug back, and if the pump is powerful enough then you have created your personal fountain 😊
      Angle of setup is very important. If you keep it horizontal like mine or with the inlet somewhat upwards you're fine. If the inlet points downwards then you've compromised the setup.

    I didn't see anything to "unscrew" (still haven't found it - not sure if mine actually has one) but I ran it and eventually (less than 20min) it started pumping water. This has happened twice in the past week.
    BTW I live on a boat and am guessing it's the original ac pump (1980). Your explanation of things really helped me understand how it works

      Hey man. My water pump worked good for sometime with this method. Now, if i have to start my water pump, i have to try this method everytime. Problem with that is water comes out with heavy pressure which is difficult to control and messes up the surrounding area. Could you please tell me why is this happening and can my motor just work normally without having to pour water into the hole everytime i start it to make it work

    • @syedmarufulhuq
      @syedmarufulhuq  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@freakout4775 if you have to do this everytime, it means air is getting into the system (inlet pipe) maybe due to faulty set up or crack. So look for cracks or holes or loose connection in the pipe from the main line up to the pump. If water pressure in the mainline drops, then it might let air in. Some people install non returning valve in the inlet pipe to make sure pump always has some residue water for priming.

    I'm wondering what could be the problem when water disappears or seems to flow backwards. Basically, I have a water pump outside that's supposed to pump water to a separate (and higher placed) tank. The problem is that my storage water disappears, almost like it's flowing backwards or getting lost somewhere. The problem is, we're talking 500L of water disappearing every week! Where is it going???

    • @syedmarufulhuq

      There's a high probability that the water is flowing back, as you suspected. You need to install a check valve (non returning valve) to prevent this from happening.

    Thank you for this ..but my doubt is should you do this all the time when you want to pump the water? if yes what is the permanent solution for this?

    • @syedmarufulhuq
      @syedmarufulhuq  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately, there's no permanent solution. You can try to install a non-returning valve on the inlet.
      Non-returning valve works good if you have good water pressure from mains supply. Otherwise it may not work as well as expected.

    Any reason why you put foil around tubes? I ask because everyday my pump loses prime. Suction tube remains 1/2 full. Foot valve works. Pump runs after i prime it. But loses it after a day. Wondering if it’s an air issue. Thats why i ask about foil

      You're right! Though I used thread seal tape to attach the pipes to the pump, I used foil tape on top to make it completely air tight. Air in the inlet usually is reason for the pump to fail, assuming everything else is working including your foot valve. I would recommended a visual check for any cracks or holes in the inlet (from the pump up to the mains supply) that may allow air to enter the system.
      FYI, I once had a setup where I needed to prime on a daily basis. The setup was flawless, however the water pressure from the mains supply used to fall regularly causing air flow into the system.

      There's probably a leak or crack in the inlet pipe.
