    Hi 👋 Greetings from New Zealand. I think i have viewed your channel before. Its the long length of your hair that i remember. I wore my hair like yours in the early 1970s. Anyway , i own a copy of Suicides album from 1977. I love it. Its so quirky and very different from what was around back then. Its certainly not disco. I liked British Punk Rock 🧷 then too. My favorite band was the Damned. From Carl.

      @PermanentRecordsLA Thanks for your reply. Yes its winter here. I live in a small city in the North Island called Palmerston North. We have been having sunny days with warm temperatures recently , but it has turned cold today.

    Hey Lance! Best recent score was a super-clean WLP of The Wizards from Kansas, which I found for $50 at a bookstore

    Hi Lance, I just chanced on your channel and you look familiar. Do you go to the OC Record Show in Buena Park on occasion? I go their about every other month as best I can. I knew the previous owners and I know the current owners as well. (Good people).
    I have been into vinyl records for decades, of course I have some years on you as I started buying records in the early 70s. Fast forward to today and I'm about as deep as one would want to go I guess. I'm a "volunteer" vinyl record custodian (I would be official as soon as they come out with such a certification) and somewhat a historian. I collect to have in my own library to play, not for investing or monetary value and I do not sell. I do not have a huge collection (about 825 give or take) as I do not have room for much more. I go after original pressings and always used, of course. I have not bought a new record since the mid 80s and see no reason to do so now. I also can't afford to get spendy by any stretch. $30 for a record would be far beyond my ability.
    I know the problem with prices of records now days. I have Dylan records that I bought new in the 80s (obvious re-issues) for about $4 each and yes, they do sound good, especially for mid 80s records. Those exact same records, used now go for $20 to $40! No, I don't feel fortunate to be sitting on them. I find it outrageous. They are $4 records even now in my opinion.
    I have far too many stories to tell here. I like many genres of music from classical to classic rock to jazz to almost you name it. Some of my favorite finds and something I got addicted to are the various artist records. Not the standard ones from Ktel and what have you, but the stranger ones where even the songs are done differently than what ended up on the LP, etc. Those records are just as fun as my Prog-rock ones, which is another of my loves.
    Anyway, if you are at the OC Record Show next time and I am there, I'll try to come up and say Hi.

      Hi! As a matter of fact, I do frequent that record show. I knew Steve well and I know Ryan also. Good people, indeed! I would love to see your collection sometime. I bet you have great stuff! If you dig various artists compilations, please check out my Brown Acid comps sometime. They're chock full of rare and obscure Hard Rock, Heavy Psych, and Proto-Metal tracks from the late-60s and early-70s. I appreciate your insightful comment and I hope to meet you in person at the next record show! Cheers!

    Outstanding! I should’ve known you had such diverse taste as you do at the store. Incredible, and I dare say, fundamental selections. Suicide, Throbbing Gristle, Void/Faith and absolutely love (early) FLIPPER. Awesome copy of the GG Allin & The Jabbers!

    Don't think Blondie ever covered Ring My Bell but they did a flawless live version of Donna Summers I Feel Love, and a awesome live version of Ring Of Fire for the Roadie soundtrack. Still can find mint copies of Autoamerican and The Hunter in the bargain bins...yet they want over $20 for Parallel Lines which is not rare as it sold over 30 million copies.

    • @PermanentRecordsLA
      @PermanentRecordsLA  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's what I get for doing these videos stream-of-consciousness style. Anita Ward's voice sounded like Debbie Harry in my head as "Ring My Bell" came into my frontal lobe. "Parallel Lines" is a classic and although it's not rare, it does sell fairly regularly for $15-20 in our shop as well. Supply and demand, my friend, and that one has significant demand these days. Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment!

    Fun video! The best feeling is when you take a chance on a private and it hits. Personal bests value digs were the Sol LP on GCP for 25 cents and a single spot where I bought Alice Coltrane/Ptah, Mike James Kirkland/Hang On In There, and Lightmen Plus One/Fancy Pants for $20 a pop...left so much behind but I only had about $200 to my name at that time 🥲

    I'm in the process of going through a collection of a previous record store owner who's shop closed in 92... he kept every promo...sealed copies ... like going to a store in 92...unfortunately it's in a hoarder house and has been a long process... but it's like nothing i have ever seen and I've been doing this for decades... going back Friday for another haul... the vinyl gods definitely delivered...u just never know

    Wow... I easily carried half of these titles at one time or another at my combo record store, bar, live music venue outside DC in the 80's and 90's called Phantasmagoria..got a lot of the titles from a distribitor in SF know as Systematic, they really knew what they were doing, wonder what happened to them, any idea?
