This OVA is one with the best animation and my favorite so I've been waiting for it to be featured in this slot.
A story of wonderful old men and boys.
Most of the characters are guest appearances from other Mitsuteru Yokoyama manga, but it's not difficult to enjoy the story without knowing them.
I'm so glad you watched the best mecha series of all time. The characters are my favorite part of the series since they have so much charm.
It is a masterpiece animation that ran out of budget due to the director's obsession, but was so interesting that it took years to acquire the budget to complete it.
I'm glad tee chose it.

Its still early but the flashbacks and details on the tragedy of Bashtarle is something to pay attention to since every time we flashback we see a very slightly different pov depending on the character and their mental state or the baggage they carry. Like it was pointed out functional Sizuma drive thats being used was pefrected post Bashtarle and the latter was supposed to be a breakthrough experiment after months of failures and stagnation with Vogler being portrayed in these flashbacks at dedicated to the experiment to the extreme believing in its success to the point of going through with it despite the dangers (tho not in an "evil scientist wants to do bad way" necesserily ) but also portrayed as crazy , rambling about the night thing with all shorts of ominous villainshots of him apaprently knowing and planning for some destruction. At this point it seems like Profffessor Sizuma, Ginrei and Genya (and maybe proffessor Go/fans guy) are our first hand accounts from the tragedy tho Sizuma isnt really in good shape mentaly rn and Ginrei and Genya (the bad guy) were kids as we see in the book alberto is reading off about bashtarle where we see em with Vogler.
At face value the start of Vogler's speech in the flashback kinda makes sense from a non crazy evil scientist perspective. About the history of humanity attempts to conquare "the night" and their archaic fears through imperfect , violent and dengerous means like fire , oil and nuclear and thus him brute forcing progress with this experiment and creating a new era with the beautifull night gifted to all people being the one completely conquered with light and technological progress, leaving behind humanity's barbaric dependencies and fears. But we also see in the flashbacks crazy scientist Vogler straightforwardly yelling about bring forth and bringing forth a night in the literal sense of all consuming darkness and chaos with the tragedy. Certainly Genya through Big Fire's opperating seems to want to complete that last part of the equation and "finish the job" and even "get revenge" like spooky Vogler says to the detective in notre dame
The wonderful soundtrack was performed by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, and the symphony "GR" is still being performed by symphony orchestras that don't know anything about animation.

Regarding the Anno cut. I remember there were some comments saying the source is a tweet from an industry person, either the comment got deleted or I am thinking about other Anno cut that also is presumed.
I think it might’ve used to have a comment with a source for that but that the comment would go away anyway since GKalai uploaded a new version of the cut. Can’t recall where it said it was from though (and honestly not even sure if there was one or not).
I know Anno is listed as a “Special Guest Animator”(スペシャルゲスト・アニメーター) in the credits but that doesn’t specify what part he actually did; and various Japanese wikis list him as having worked on the intro (specifically, for parts other than the scene showing the IPO characters) but I’m not sure on the original source. I’m pretty sure it’s correct though.
They might talk about it in the audio commentary track actually; I own the Blu Ray set which includes those but unfortunately don’t have access to a Blu Ray player right now so I can’t check myself.
@@GrizonII there wasn't a comment in the old post before I replaced it but the source at least is the Japanese animators wiki/atwiki page for anno. Maybe it's on the directors commentary or was brought up on some interview by imagawa or anno that now isn't around since a lot of those sources on atwiki are ancient

I have been getting into studying film and thinking about buying the book you always have about framing and all about paneling etc (red one forgot the name) is there anything else you'd recommend books or courses or something thr you think will help a lot thank you and I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU BEING THE SOLE REASON I WATCH ANIME WITH A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE (and not blindly be a hype merchant) AND CONSIDER THE AMOUNT OF WORK TALENTED PEOPLE PUT INTO IT. I'm not talented in what I want learn but I want to learn so I can appreciate the work talented people put into. Just finished the patlabor series holy fuck the movies and THAT BULLET SCENE with all the flashing FUCKING SHOOK ME BRO and here I am wanting to learn all this.
