I have a weird feeling that I met this bloke in Lismore in about 2005.
There was an advertisement in our television guide booklet (archaic, I know) from some local clinic that was offering healing sessions using magnets. I was open-minded about the idea and had pretty poor posture and some muscular stiffness so I thought I would give it a crack. I went ahead and called the number and ended up having a session with a guy who looked just like this fella. I can't recall much about the session itself but I do remember spending some money on a set of small magnets that he instructed me to tape into my belly button to help realign my spine. Sure enough, I did it for a short while, felt stupid, then stopped it and forgot about it all. Then this video pops up in my feed and this memory comes flashing back.
I am now really curious if it was actually this dude...

This leader sounds a lot like L Ron Hubbard from Scientology, except LRH was even crazier.
To be fair, as much as I despise Scientology and LRH, he was a pretty impressively prolific writer of science fiction novels for a long time before Scientology, some of which weren’t that bad. He also wrote dianetics, which I’ve never read and I’m sure is pure BS, but I have to give him credit for at least writing a successful text that his cult is based around. This dudes just a straight up worthless conman with beyond nothing to offer except quackery.
Scientology really is the most impressive cult to ever exist in my opinion. The peoples Temple/Heavens gate were impressive for the degree of dedication they created in their followers, but ultimately they were run by truly mad men, and that dedication was represented by piles of bodies. Scientology has survived long past the death of its founder, and their victims devotion is represented in the millions of dollars they get out of them.. It’s an absolute disgrace, but an impressive racket honestly… They even somehow fought their way to being granted religious tax exempt status! What that says about our own system in the US is probably nothing good, but goddamn… I mean, they’ve got their own piles of bodies, trafficking, slave like child labor based on ridiculous contracts no underage person should be permitted to sign, and missing people that the police just refuse to investigate…

This type of magical thinking was dominant in the past where there was no internet and mass sharing of information. Unfortunately this kind of healers were running a show.
I have met quite a few people from Universal medicine now. They stay quiet about it but anyone in Byron Bay that does not drink or eat dairy.... best you look out for a Leonardo da Vinci print in their home or business. All the followers ( many are business owners) will have one. There was one in a practitioner's office I went into just this week. If you ask them straight out, they don't deny it and will tell you they are in Universal Medicine. The weirdest thing is they are otherwise intelligent people.
I look at a guy like this and think KOOOOOOK. What I can never understand is how people buy into this stuff. I get that they are sick and looking for help but probably best to stick with your doctor.

This is like 12 step groups. If someone follows the program as directed and is not able to remain sober, they insist that the problem lies within the individual.vAs they see it, they are never wrong. If measured by science, given the relatively high number of people for whom the program does not work, and the relatively low number of people for whom it does work, it would be considered a failed treatment and more effective treatments would be developed and tested. It is so very interesting how cults operate according to patterned behaviors. Like any cult, 12 step groups are based on man's wisdom, which is foolishness. Tragically, many have put their faith in a program derived from man's wisdom, have accepted the dismal fail rate as the best case scenario and have given up trying more effective interventions.
