Ooooo interesting.. Maybe another dynamic could be added? As in a Joker Lap for instance? Everyone has to purposely miss a check point at some point in the race and put it in chat once done? Or 2 checkpoints in one lap? Everyone can choose what lap they're taking their hit?
Thats kind of like the Old Mario Cart Days Everyone had a Beer and you had to Pull over to Drink and it was your choice when you wanted to do it you can do it at the Beginning and catch up or get ahead and do it later but your Beer needed to be Finished before you Crossed the Finish Line
Hoi hoi, Ren here, glad to see most the races worked out alright. The open build one was a bit of a leap into the unknown, we haven't done that at all in the previous iterations done on another youtuber's server. Anyways, I'd like to thank Alex for releasing the video, and Longbow, Xcentric and Yeet for making this come to fruition. c:
My nine year old daughter who is an avid fan and knows most of the regular names, wants to "meet" Amy and Russky so she knows who they are too. (Yeah, she loved the go-kart series too)
Well, this needs to be a recurring game mode. The best part for GTA racing has to be catch-up. I can imagine even without the same cars, it will absolutely balance out. It would be interesting to see this game mode with the traditional blend of built/bought cars at the top of a class!
Thing is the last race showed that there is very much a 'meta' with this sort of race, which is basically 'how much power can you fit into the car'. If you want this to work you'd have to restrict complete power builds because they destroy anything else.
@@roadtrain_ yup, I wrote the comment before I saw the last race. But with that knowledge, now everyone can build similarly and balance will be (relatively) restored. Perhaps a revisit with hindsight will make FH5 races less of a meta-fest.
This is definitely intended on being chaotic fun, not serious "racing", but there is still decision making involved I don't think catchup (within reason, this is an extreme) rewards poor driving, I think it is beneficial since when racing - incidents that take you out can happen to you that you had no control over
I didn't think this was going to be as great as it turned out to be. I quite like the catch up thing, specially because the collision physics that GTA has don't apply, so banging doors is possible. Hope to see more of this in the future.
I've played around with the "Rules" & it says that it modifies the cars TORQUE so maybe Russky had the Deisel engine w/ 1,000+ torque in that Holden? Because even if he was only getting 75% of his Torque it would be 750ish...
Power = Torque * RPM / some constant. Essentially, because (torque*rpm)*0.75 is 75% of your total power output, per commutative multiplication, so too is (torque*0.75)*rpm. Thus; whether you're a 5000RPM-peaking diesel with mountain-snapping torque, or a gas turbine peaking (depending on where you measure it at; jets are weird) at about 50000RPM, you can't game the system with a high-torque motor.
That Transit race was positively mental, it should have been the first round of the BTCC (British Transit Cronching Championship, that is...) Top liveries as well, although the RSPB might have something to say about Gliscor's livery. And as for that Canada Post van, I have a feeling that Neil from Post2Post's upcoming delivery might be a little late...
In the last race, the Holden was a max upgraded diesel engine so it had a shit tonne of torque. We talked about taking a diesel in filming but no one else wanted to use it
I think you could also get away with a car that was drag limited rather than power limited. That way its top speed and acceleration likely remain the same but it has power to spare that it cannot use normally that works like a buffer against the power taken by the rules...On the other hand then your car would be consistent regardless of position and you would run into trouble if you got into the pack...
@@mizinoinovermyhead.7523 That's not really how drag works; as it raises with the square of your speed, you quickly find yourself needing immense power increases for ever more marginal speed gains. A very slippery car would take it better, at least on a sufficiently long track; an old 60's streamliner would just keep accelerating, slowly but surely, for basically eternity - or until the braking point.
I wonder how the power reduction thing works. Does it work only based on position? I wish it'd be more of a 'distance to last place' kind of thing, where last place has full (and maybe even extra) power, and the further away you get (Distance, not position wise) the less power you get to play with. In any case, this seems to work MUCH better with 1 make races than with open races as the last one showed, pure power builds simply destroy everything.
GTA5 catch up with FH5 graphics? Finally, my prayers for glorious looking, completely unpredictable automotive mayhem have been answered. That Transit race was brilliant fun. More of this, please, Alex and crew!
My one day racing online being absolutely _horrible_ because I was pushed out of checkpoints in every race suggests that you can bump draft just fine in Horizon 5. Then again, maybe the game has an invisible line between a nudge and a torpedo and it decides on the spot which nudge is which.
one bad thing about this style of race is that your success doesn't stack up to make you the fastest you could stay in the top 3 all race and get overtaken by a guy who missed a checkpoint at the start the winners are more random
This should be fun on a high speed oval style track with fast cars. I also wonder how it would work with different cars with similar pi ratings. Like, fast cars with offroad racing tires and slower cars with semi-slicks. (edit: ok, I see you did that on the last race :) )
Alexa, define chaos..! I’d hate to know what it would be like in the ford transit if it had say, the GT40 engine in it. Tuned correctly with silly power they’re great fun to try and keep on all 4 wheels, though dont like turning and don’t like going particularly fast either
An idea with this gamemode: - 3 rounds of 4 cars using this 'catch up' effect going around a track for 2-3 laps. - Top 2 cars advance from each round - The 6 that did not advance have their own heat for a couple laps where the top 2 advance to the final. - The final race is 3-5 laps and made up of the top 2 from each of the heats.
Hmmm. This could make extremely good same make races. Kind of like gta. You can do much more fun same make races. How about everyone in a truck?! In a Unimog? Lol. Best thing ever! Imagine all the silly close racing you can have 😂
While this is entertaining I like the distinction between Forza and GTA that was kind of lost in this. GTA is racing that's exciting for the overtaking and rubbing doors. Forza racing is exciting because the stakes are higher for mistakes and its a higher skill cap, there is a lot more competitive skill on display on Forza under normal circumstances.
Raregliscor's livery on the Ford Transit is awesome! Birds aren't real! They are just government surveillance drones! lol Is there a way to turn off the tire smoke? It seems really bad on Horizon 5. It's really bad with this game mode when you have 10 cards all together sliding around corners. It's a complete smoke screen and you can't see anything! And can you make it so it also has slipstream like in GTA5? That would make this game mode EVEN crazier! And one final note, this NEEDS to be done on a tight street circuit!
I think the system is too aggressive with the speed differential right now to facilitate any actual battle for position, but it has a lot of potential I'd like to see expanded in the future. As is, the finishing positions are more of a crapshoot than anything else, and in my opinion, that's not really enjoyable as a viewer. Excluding the meta that Russkiy showed, it doesn't seem to matter too much what you drive, how your race-craft is, and your raw pace. A big part of this is luck, but even in profiting off that luck, it's not a special experience like Broughy getting a supercar in a Random All. In order to make it more like GTA5 racing, I'd try to only apply the power increase to people at the bottom of the pack, that way nobody is ever discounted from the race, as often happens. I might also recommend a minimum tire upgrade for any given class to restrict meta power builds.
Feel like the effect is a bit too extreme, in GTA you can still lead alone and not be caught up if 2nd and 3rd is batteling, cool concept though,... I would probably make it more subtle though, so coming from 3rd to 1st isn't like running into a wall. maybe like 2% per position, so 1st place has 90% power while 12th place has 114% or like make it dynamic so it's more extra power the further down you're.
GTA has two effects, catch-up and slip stream. Catch up is always on, but for slipstream, you have to be close to the one in front of you. So catch up is not as strong, that's why it works better.
Gotta say I didn’t like it. Just chaos. The catch up may just be too strong. In GTA, even with catch up on, the racing is good. This was just a high speed pack of cars slamming into each other.
...yes not a fan of this (even less then your GTA racing, becauze like you sayed the catch-up is stronger). With that much catch-up, it stops being racing and turns in-to a dice roll. Just chaos. Plus your driving is too "polite" to make the most of it aniway hehe
