  • Visiting the pages of a sketchbook.. is a personal invitation into the world of the artist... the most wonderful thing is that we can each create this for ourselves... be it workshop notes, collage, Q&A of your own souls longings, colour charts or palette pondering, curiosities of ALL the things swirling in your thoughts... you can bring them all into your pages.
As I'm doing several classes of late, and in a growth spurt of learning, it's not all painted pages.. but letting the words and questions be in amongst my paintings and drawing.. is helping to remind me.. it all belongs. I belong.
    You belong.

Nothing better than doing my art intuitively. It's such an emotional release! I feel more confident in creating. Ty

I think the shrub you photographed is of the Loropetalum species. We have several growing in our garden.
Thank you for sharing your sketchbook - Love the idea of the "mood board" welcome page.

Yes to encouragement videos please Denise. I love sketchbooking these days, it used to intimidate me thinking I had to get it right because it was in a book, but thankfully I’ve moved past that and scribble notes, try out colour palettes and even use an A3 one and do big messy art then cut out the bits I love and put it into my A4 one. I love the Officeworks sketchbooks, love the quality and price hope they never discontinue them, I think the cheap price has helped me free up, no longer fearing wrecking an expensive sketchbook. Blessings from Canberra

Hey Denise, it was the last bit, when you were asking if we needed videos with like meditation, standalone one to accompany us in our creative process, when we feel overwhelmed. As you mention, some people listen to music, podcasts of various art ….or maybe need a very peaceful and quiet place… I, I love listen to artists, “be part” of their journey, feel the connection 😊❤. Again, maybe you did a few of those, I just haven’t found them yet… warm regards, Ella

Oh my goodness Denise what a beautiful video! I loved your sharing of your art journal. I have been feeling the need to do this but I don't have the inspiration or process to take myself on the journey. I loved the play with colour being kept in the journal for reference. I get so overwhelmed with what I think is meaningless bits of paper everywhere, that I have to throw them away, often later with regret. This has inspired me keep them in a journal practice... love it! Thank you for sharing the details of people you mentioned too! So, YES, I would love some company while I create too! Thank you so much for all your sharing, I treasure it SO much!

Hi Mel, firstly thank you so much for this beautiful msg, and yes... stick everything into a book... I am noticing sketch booking feels different to me than
art journaling... it's all semantics... but what we make these things means is what guides us. So for me... yes, I'm letting anything go in the sketchbook... no rules or judgement... and it helps me to accept whatever lands on the page ... I'm currently in a messy stage of seeking and trying things.. and learning by doing a sketchbook challenge... all of it... so it's ALL going in there. haha! I like that we'll be able to look back on our journey later on - date each entry :) big love D x

Love your generous, kindness that I feel through your newness to TH-cam! You are my next binge-watch for sure. I can totally relate to the desire to create authentic- experience art from intuition and feelings! I have yet to find one person that has all the encouragement and the right personality that I relate to but you've come the closest! I love the calmness I feel throughout your videos. No music, no irritating, over-excited voice and just good, relatable, raw experience. Excellent! I too have recently fell back in love with the sketchbook. I have four on the go now. One for mixed media experiments, a junk journal, a drawing one and also a collage concepts one! Do you think there's an advantage to just one and I
wonder if you would have an opinion or feeling about any disadvantages of keeping these ideas separated?! I've often thought about this but the need to be organized and methodical has compelled me to work this way. Perhaps I need to let go more? I work in them equally and I have been moving them all along and love how they're evolving as separate 'units' of study. Sometimes the mediums overlap one another and I let that happen freely. Anyway, I'll watch your videos and maybe you will answer my question in due time! Keep up the amazing, intuitive content! I have made a few videos for myself really and then just published them and I realize the editing is the bulk of the work here! Keeping it simple is the way to go! I actually don't mind the shadows on that bit you worried about! They're authentic! Best of luck on your YT journey!

thanks for your thoughts and kind review! ...
"Do you think there's an advantage to just one and I wonder if you would have an opinion or feeling about any disadvantages of keeping these ideas separated?! I've often thought about this but the need to be organized and methodical has compelled me to work this way...."
I would say... definitely do it allll your way.... it's far better to be doing it this way, in all of your different books than if you try and adopt someone else's idea and hate it.... I'd say... trust your own process, and if you feel the urge to try it differently then do so... but there is absolutely nothing wrong with having all different journals.
(the only time this may prove difficult is if you wanted to publish a full retrospective book or exhibition of your work - but to me, that is far too much pressure to have to consider) - so I... do whatever I feel to at the time... if I am making any kind of art, that is a win for me... and most always contributes to me feeling more whole.
You're correct... the editing takes a lot of time!
thanks for your encouragement and support.
      warmly, Denise 🌼
