Respect in what you're saying about the rhythm guitar. I know. I feel it also ( which I feel is down to confidence) ..... BUT..... Miku only started playing guitar AFTER Saiki (Vocals) joined the group. Kanami has been her teacher ever since. Since the MV Thrill where she only held the guitar to today where she's actually rhythm guitar.... it's a huge leap. And yes, the parts she plays is simple, she is always evolving. And when Kanami writes the songs she is always challenging and pushing Miku to improve, through her song writing. Lessons on the fly, so to speak. Now, Having said that, Band Maid would not exist Without Miku's drive and determination. Band Maid was her private project. She brought all the members together with the risk at alienating herself. Musically, she is the weakest link.... she knows that, but she is always willing to improve, and it shows..... And thats what fans love about her, her determination and fight to better, for Band Maid to be better. Without her there would be no Band Maid.,,,,,,, but having my rant I do feel that this was not one of their better songs.
I get that everyone is entitled to their opinions. That said, though this isn't one of my favorite songs of theirs, it's still brilliantly written in the sense that it IS called "Awkward". Those disjointed, less than epic, even unsure riffs, all lend to the theme of the song. To add the things you suggested very likely detract from that. Plus it kinda made you sound like the punchline in the joke "how many guitarists does it take to change a lightbulb?" For those who haven't heard the joke: One to actually do it and every other guitarist to say, "I would've done it better". I get it that you're not trying to shit on them or the song completely, and can understand being in an over analytical mindset. It happens to me a lot.But I can't help but feel that, with this one, it's better to just see the forest instead of the trees.
Kanami's a bit of a melodic songwriter/musician. I wonder if this influenced the progression, mood; or slight lack of punch to some of the chords your pointing out. I like the sound presentation myself. I enjoyed the somewhat subtlety of the song. It does have an epic feel... at least in the way it progressed. Listening to the song I'm trying to hear how a bit more punch could give it more of an epic feel. I suppose it would if you were going for a slightly bolder/defined sound. Have to listen to the studio version again. Interesting analysis and perspective though... enjoyed it.👍 I should mention that I listen to your other reactions and I appreciate them as well. I like hearing other perspectives.
You did not let the song progress you keep judging it without hearing it fully. The intention of this song is upscale as it progress but you missed that because you kept talking on top of it. 🤷🏻♂️ dude

Awkward isn’t supposed to rock your socks off, it’s a pretty song with gentle textures and varied layering. And in as such, it’s just perfect!💪🏻🤘🏻
It's an old reaction, my opinion of band maid has grown over the year, really one of my favorite bands now

Exactly, it has just as much punch as Kanami wanted it to have. As we all know, there's lots more with plenty of punch.

Miku is the person that I respect the most from the band. If there is a novel or movie about band maid, Miku will be the main character.

This song is in my top 5 songs from them. MISA and Kanami worked together in composing this song and we all know MISA likes ballad songs too.
