Bones has never lost everything but rather made bad choice after bad choice to immediately be given a title opportunity. The closer someone is to being able to beat Jones, the closer they are to Jones.
He has the most trouble against guys who are closer to his height and reach (Gus and Reyes).
Looking at his fights, he’s bigger than many of his opponents (and more importantly longer). In order for someone to beat Jones they need to:
Be close to his height, weight and overall build (this is where Cormier lacks, and most others.)
This is why Gus and Reyes did so well, Jones isn’t used to fighting people who can hit him from very far out. Honestly Jones doesn’t like being hit too much, you see him backing away and sortof running to the side (which often works).
The second key to beating Jones is to continually come at him, a lot of guys start and then kindof stop following through and he is able to get away. If you saw the Thiago Santos fight, I think maybe Thiago could’ve caught him but after getting his knees taken out, he didn’t have the explosiveness to keep coming at Jones . After a step or two he was physically incapable of continuing to move forward due to his knees (I don’t blame him, shit looked like it hurt, I’m surprised he kept going) this is where Gus did well, by keeping the pressure on
Another aspect is Jones athleticism, he’s very agile for his size, and moves pretty well. This is where I feel like guys like Stipe wouldn’t do well, I feel he doesn’t move around well enough, and Jones is just too versatile. (This is also where Reyes did well because he was able to move with Jones)
This is why Izzy has a good chance of beating Jones, because this will be the first time Jones will go against someone who can do the things he can do (also why he was able to beat Silva). If you look at the people he fought (Forest griffin for example, Silva was way ahead of the game) not many people could move like he could, he was fluid, and had very good skills.
However one of Jones greatest strengths is his fight IQ his mindset, and the fact that he breaks down his opponents he stated that he watches which side they shoot to, why the shoot (because of strikes, maybe when they are tired etc) what is their favorite punch is, what stance the prefer, shit like that

Be athletic
Long in reach, and tall
The ability to throw spinning elbows
(Obviously a strong background of martial arts training)
Aggressive
