    Yo, Its been a while. So this is something a bit different to what I normally do. Super keen to hear what you think. Should I do more narrative pieces?

    Yo! I just discovered your channel and I have to say I f*cking hate when I found amazing creators like you with such small amount of followers/subscribers. Honestly I'm feeling the same I felt when I found Peter McKinnon's channel: "This guy will be HUGE if he puts the time".. CONGRATS and keep the amazing content coming!!

    Damn Killa Kiril stepping up the story game bro! I really think adding the narration component to the incredible cinematography is a huge leap forward. Well done, see you soon :) . Capt. Breeyawn

      @KirilDobrev  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Breeeeeyawn! Well I have good story telling teachers ;) Learning from you chaps! But im glad you think it worked out well with the narrative, it's definitely so much nicer to edit to narration! See you soon - we're going to make some magic!

      @iSamuelsArt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree Cap, been following his work since he was on board. I was trying to figure out how the storytelling is so... MMM!!! It is the very subtle sounds that he as added that whips you along and fills in the blanks. One example that stands out was the little cheer as the basketball players clapped hands after scoring, the cheer was still fading and we were already into the next scene. Was loving the slight wooosh in the music as that classic Killa camera move takes us rapidly from place to place from scene to scene. You have yourself a fan here my man, I have told you this before, but this is another level.
      Best,
      Samuel

    I don't know how to properly compliment or thank you Kiril because it exceeded my superlatives vocabulary. It had so much attention to detail and flowed so incredibly smooth and matched the narration perfectly. I can't even tell if was a voice narrating over the video or a video over a story. It is perfect either way although my hunch is you edited to the narration. I don't have the mind to comprehend how difficult that is to produce but I know how phenomenal it was. You are brilliantly talented!

    • @KirilDobrev
      @KirilDobrev  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It honestly motivates me so much to keep doing this when people resonate with the films. So thank you for watching and encouraging me! Hopefully I can put these out a little quicker, but not only do they take a long time to produce but I barely have time to do my own work - maybe shorter form, less complex ones more frequently? I'll figure something out! Thanks again for the comment, appreciate ya!

    Brilliant as usual. I liked the narrative because its appropriate here. Many scenes are quite brutal because of the buildings and the texture of the city and that lends itself to a calm narrative. Your NZ piece needs no narrative because it is all nature and that cannot be improved upon. Whatever you do just keep doing it, your heart and your talent will guide you! Can't wait to see your take on the Arctic and Svalbard !

    Dude this is amazing work! Not only the stunning footage but everything together feels so natural and has a great flow and rhythm - And a Story!!! I have so many questions! Did you write the narration yourself? Who is reading it? And did you know the storyline before filming, or did you come up with it while editing?

    • @KirilDobrev
      @KirilDobrev  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yo dude, thank you so much man. So I just went and filmed a whole bunch of stuff during my 5 days in Hong Kong. After looking through the footage and seeing what sequences I could piece together, I came up with a narrative that suited the footage which I chose to use. I drafted a rough script but had a talented friend re write it in better words than I could. In terms of voice over, I tried recording 2 different youngsters, all of which struggled to read it - granted English is not their first language and the poem was definitely too difficult. I eventually asked a friend of mine to do the voice - I think she did a killer job.

    • @backlightfilms

    Wow. Kiril, I think its amazing. I actually got choked up with the girl's narrative overlaid with the visuals. I'm a Canadian who recently moved to Hong Kong and quickly fell in love with it for the reasons you expressed. I'm pretty torn up about all the turmoil here. Keep up the good work and trying new techniques like this. BTW, where did you get the script for this narrative? V. cool.

    • @KirilDobrev
      @KirilDobrev  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John, so I wrote it partially, but I am by no means a good writer, so I handed it to a friend who is and briefed her with the direction, and she spun it into this magic. I'v learned you've got to play to your strengths!

    • @johnpahl6331
      @johnpahl6331 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adding narrative really strengthens a video. Take the vid below: there are many skiing and sailing in Iceland videos whoever made this added Siggi's voice over and story which really built on it. Siggi, btw, sails over to Greenland every summer (I joined one) and knows a lot about high latitude sailing. th-cam.com/video/NJETuvSeIMw/w-d-xo.html

    This is truly beautiful, such an inspiration. I found your channel through a comment you made on a Brandon Li video. The inspiration you got from him really shows through which is a total compliment! Keep up the great work. So strange that you don't have more views, but I guess views aren't the easiest thing to get a hold on here on TH-cam. I have the same struggle on a completely different scale though. Take care!

      Hey man, thanks for watching. A lot of work goes into these. Brandon is obviously someone I look up to and learn from. Anyway, thanks for watching and leaving a comment :)

    Pure genius Kiril! I'd like to know where you got those mad editing skills, how long you've been at it and what influenced your style.

      Thanks Jim, just lots of tinkering and genuine love of doing it I guess. Iv been at it for 2 years now. Influence wise: check out MrBrynNorth and Brandon Li.

    Great video. You have anymore videos with you using the Panasonic GH5 to film

      Hey thanks! Yeah my Bali video is shot on the GH5 (and a little bit of GH4)

      Kiril Dobrev What software did you use to edit this as this is very close to Canon colours. And not the regular GH5 look colour wise.
      I am personally myself using the Nikon D5500 which is great for street photography. As it is about the same size as the Panasonic GH5. Plus I also intend to pick up the Canon 80D so I can enjoy both Canon and Nikon systems. And I have like four more cameras I intend to purchase between 2019-2021

      I edited this in Premiere. But the colors are just about how it was graded.

    Kiril I still love this film off Hong Kong. The colours are great in this film. I intend to purchase both this Panasonic GH5 and GH5s. Probably purchase the Panasonic GH5 first and put a Nikon F to M43 viltrox speedbooster with it. Put the Nikon 10-20 on it . Then later save for the Panasonic GH5s. Anyhow would it be possible to edit GH5 footage on an i5 8th gen laptop evening if transfer files into proxys plus I could always film in 8 bit until I upgrade my laptop.

    a really great work. Please note that I my hearing is not aging as well as other functions... Sometimes the music track overpowers the narrative; sometimes it should but I lost the narrative a few times.

      Hi Howard, this was a genuine concern of mine and I tried my best to find a balance. But..I went ahead and added subtitles so if you would like to, re-watch it with them on! Thanks for the support!

    I love your films and was just wondering if the Metabones Speedbooster XL decreases the crop on the GH5 when it is connected to it and does the Metabones Speedboster XL be used with both full frame and crop sensor canon glass.

    • @KirilDobrev
      @KirilDobrev  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you have two options, I use the XL which reduces the crop by 0.64 and then you get the other which is 0.71x. Metabones only work with full frame Canon glass, but you can use EFS (crop) lenses from other manufacturers. I for example use a Sigma 10-20mm EF-S crop sensor lens.
