On the one hand, great idea, people do that for free and for fun anyway, but on the other hand, i definitely think if EA holds a contest to replace base game houses, they better pay us to essentially do their job for them but better

Cars, which we STILL don't have
well i mean isn’t that just video games in general, over time the devs add more features until the games finished and then it’s actually a complete game…
@@Toadette- tbh cars is the only thing we're still missing i can understand why we don't have; we had them in TS3 because it was open world and it made it so much easier to move around, meanwhile the walk-able areas in TS4 aren't that expansive and most aren't designed to accommodate cars based on how the streets work. it'd be a humongous amount of work to make cars backward compatible with all packs, or lock cars to newer worlds only which would suck; it's not impossible to have them added now, but more than likely unfeasible due to the sheer amount of work to make them work now.

i absolutely loved the wall that separated the entry area from the living area, my european heart NEEDS an entryway where you can put off your shoes and jacket, it’s so weird to me when you enter a living room from outside 😩
Yeah, I am not a fan of the standalone wall but I always build some kind of entry to the house and not the front door opening right into the living space. Coz that for me is typuc only of much much smaller houses in the UK where it makes sense to save space
It’s also easier to put the stairs there. Saves me the hassle

With all the new swatches in the base game I think it would be interesting to “renovate” a base game build by only changing the swatch of the objects.

When you live in a warm climate, it's not needed so it can be overlooked. No need to make a gradual shift between temperatures.
Its called open concept, its a very popular design people use when they want their homes to be more open and welcoming.
Thats what it is, i really enjoy the open concept with kitchens and living rooms, but i do like to have some sort of seperation with the entryway and the rest of the house

We have open concepts here too guys, just doesn't seem very hygienic and eastetic to waltz into your living room with dirty shoes, coats etc.
She just must really love open concept flooring. Plus, she lived in Florida, so to piggyback off what another person wrote, separate entrance ways/foyers aren't necessary in warmer climates, so I'm guessing she wasn't too exposed to it growing up enough to keep them in her builds. In my case my U.S. home did have a foyer, so I include them in all of my builds. I'm also not a fan of open concept, which is very overdone in home design shows here. If she watches those kinds of shows--which I believe she has mentioned that she does--she gets more exposure to modern builds with them for inspiration.

Your builds limited to the base game make me realize how much the game has improved since it was first released. Back in the day I couldn't imagine making a house look this good using only the base game. But now there's actually some pretty nice stuff!

For a base game build that's a step up from the starter homes, it's always been one of my favorites. I got a lot of fun out of playing this with a family of a young adult brother having to parent his teen brother. It made an excellent Bachelor-bachelor pad for them.
That "hole for a pool" was filled in with the two rocket ships the elder brother got as an astronaut/rocket scientist.
Same here! Im actually shocked that Kayla found this to be her least fav base game build. I thought this was one of the better builds out there when the game was first released 🤣
i don't think it's actually her least favourite I just don't think she could think of a title for what she was actually doing

One of the gurus - I think it was Graham - posted a response on the forums about pools when the game released- they WERE originally planned to be included in base game but they were having problems with the x-axis and couldn’t resolve it before launch so decided to patch them later. Which is probably why this lot, that green oasis springs starter next to Johnny Zest, the Spencer-Kim-Lewis house and probably the Landgrabb’s all look like they should have pools…because they probably DID at some point in development before they realized they couldn’t get the pools working in time for launch.
Hoping you build more non-starter base game builds. Now that the base game is free, it's cool that a lot of creators are doing more base game builds, but they're usually starter homes. I greatly appreciate when you do BG builds that are more detailed and more costly for us BG players that are beyond playing in starters!

The wall in the entry is pretty common for MCM homes.
The house stopped being Mid-century modern when Kayla messed up the roof and took away the entrance wall.

I love how Kayla renovates “Base Game” houses so that base game players have a nice home! I have no kits, stuff packs or Expansion packs so I LOVE LOVE LOOOVE when she does base game makeovers! Kayla works so hard for us! Love you simsie!! ❤❤❤

I own a small Mid-Century Modern house, and love it. It was a bit "painful" for me to watch Lil' Slimy take away so many architecture elements that typify the aesthetic. Don't get me wrong, she's a brilliant builder in S4- better than I am for sure. It's just not her aesthetic. No shade. She turned a MCM style house into a modern house with faint echos or MCM roots. Great video as usual, regardless.
Yeah, agreed. No shade, it's just not her wheelhouse. I audibly went 'nooooo' when she changed the roof line.

I didn't end up finishing the video after the roof change and the living room wall removal. Without keeping the "bones" of the house, it removes the challenge of it. Of course Simsie can create what she enjoys, which many people enjoy watching, just not my thing.

apparently a mirror facing you while you sleep invites spirits to come see you and watch you, just like having your chair face your bed while you sleep. also kinda like mirror facing a mirror is a portal, idk if i believe this stuff but just from what i’ve heard
@@allisonpierce9012 I’ve had some spooky nighttime experiences that went away when I took the mirror out of my room. Causation or correlation, I don’t know.

In my game Andre da Silva has lived in this house for 8 years. He has raised a family. He has maxed most of his skills. And I believe 3 careers right now. The house is basically unrecognizedable, but I can't make myself move him. So, this house has a special spot in my heart. 😉 Love your reno!!
I swear Kayla needs to do one of these renovate challenges but she isn't allowed to make the house smaller like she always does every time she renovates one of the OG houses.

I adore this basegame house. I know it has some odd little quirks in it but personally I feel this is one of the more advanced basegame houses. I used to play in it all the time and renovate back before I knew how to build, but I love what you've made of it. Especially that bathroom.
Ooooh I always add a pool to this house too whenever I renovate or play in it because you're right, it really just _makes sense_ ! Love how this turned out!

Why did you get rid of the wall thing when u walk in a feel like everytime there's something interesting or different about a build you get rid of it in renovation.

i honestly love how the base game houses aren't the most beautiful houses because i feel like i would be bored if there wasn't any improvement to be made hahha these videos are one of my faves
When I did that building, I immediately gave it a second story and leaned more into the modern feel of the roof and basically mixed modern, mid-century and industrial all together, I've been pretty happy with the result
my biggest problem in the base game is that there is no basic colum in the get together pack has a basic colum but i dont want to buy an expansion packs just for colums and shouldnt the base game have that its literally the most basic thing

@@Halvale Well, these are just little things I notice that aren't really the best. (I'm really realistic, so the next things what I list are my thoughts as how this house would operate in reality)
I'm sure I wouldn't put the desk facing the window, firstly because of how the sunlight would light up the desk or the computer, secondly because the person who are sitting at the desk she/he wouldn't see the person who steps in the house, and just generally people doesn't like the feeling of not seeing what's behind their back. This rule also implies when you have your working desk in a room (a little bit of feng-shui).
The roof bothered me at the beginning (it was great first with the asymmetrical shape, then when she made one roof ridge it became normal and boring, and of course some people like that, but nowadays (unfortunately or not) they are moving towards those kind of roofs how it looked in the first place), but it eventually came out okay.
I don't like the fact how little sunlight goes into the bedrooms because of the window's shape. I'd definitely change the windows. I miss some sitting place in the hall and some other place for example a wardrobe for the coats or something.
In the main bedroom the bed's placement was perfect at the beginning, now one person has to walk more to get to the other side of the bed, and it's just simply better if you have your bed's end looking towards the place where the people come from. But it's great that she put the bed in a place where you can't see it from the door (it's important because of feng-shui rules).
I think the bathroom cabinet's shape is awful, because this is a medium sized bathroom, and you want to have as many space as you can for bathroom stuff, such as towels, cleaning products, make up products and many more. Also the bench in the bathroom is a waste of space, I would put a washing machine and some bigger cleaning products there like a vacuum cleaner or a mop, and I'd put the bathtub further away from the door, because now when someone is taking a shower and another person accidentally opens the door she/he can see the first person in the bathtub right away. By moving the bathtub in a different location the chance for that would disappear. And speaking of the bathroom door, from the living room it's totally exposed. Maybe it's just my f*cked up thinking, but I like putting the bathroom door in a little hallway or somewhere where it's less exposed for public spaces. I'm sure you wouldn't like that situation where you'd come out of the bathroom and immediately everyone could see you from the living room.
The unnecessary wall what she destroyed in the first place was there for a reason, because it helped separate the hall from the living room.
I think the last thing I don't like is the unnecessary cube shaped empty spaces in the kitchen. I think it's a waste of money and space. But atleast she kept the kitchen near the bathroom. It's important because like this you don't have to pay a lot for the plumbers to make the water pipes go all through your home. The smaller the distance, the less you have to pay.
Other than these I think the house shape is good all in all, maybe it's too big, but that's not that big of a problem. Yeah I think that's it. :)

This is my first video of hers and I love how in this renovation she didn’t change the floor plan or furniture too drastically and kept it very realistic but still managed to transform the house significantly!! I love a few fellow Sim’s content creators but usually their in renovations they change the home so much until it’s unrecognizable which is fun in its own way as well but this felt more realistic and enjoyable to watch!

I have to tell you this Kayla but first I really need to underline that you're my favorite simstuber and I really appreciate you! I just think this is kinda fascinating and maybe a little bit funny. Soooo, I live in Sweden and almost always watch your videos in the evening. For some reason, I have a reaction to your voice when I watch your videos wearing headphones. I get SOO tired. It takes me days to watch a 20 min video because I get so tired that I fall asleep. I think it has to do with my ADHD but yeah, it's really weird. It doesn't happen to other videos. I do not think your videos are boring, I appreciate them A LOT. I really hope that you don't take this the wrong way. I watch ALL videos. It just take me some time.. 😅

This is the house my sims live in for my generations family & I think the original size is pretty good for big families because I could comfortably fit 8 sims in it

You know what Kayla, I watch your videos every single day, binge watched the generations gameplay, still love watching it when a new video comes out. Love watching the base game builds, even though I have most the packs, I do prefer base game builds so I can edit it as I want. I'm not very good with layouts of houses so downloading your content from the galley helps me alot. When you go live on twitch It's about 9pm for me as I live in the UK, I don't really go on twitch but I am mainly on here or gaming on the sims. Sims 4 is becoming much much better.
Also side note, does anyone still have the issue where the sims still move when the game is paused? EA claimed to have fixed the bug but I can't see how. Yes I've updated everything.

I did them all from the library after I made one for each size, though later I changed a few. I even got a good 20 x 15 version, though no frills outside. 4 stories 3 basements. Heck if a pool or a rocket ship were allowed on floors...

I love that house! I put in the new cabinets when that came out, it was a groovy house by the time I 'boho'd' the crap out of it! LOL!
I really wish lighting was much better. I agree the only light that really looks good is that small one.. in real life though the best lights are recessed, indirect, and soft glows from lamps. I can't stand ceiling lights most of the time because it's too "in your face" bright. I think that's why the small round light is the best one.. because it for some reason it is indirect and a better glow. Not harsh yet bright.
the sprinkler system works without the fire alarm! i've seen you place both in a couple builds lately and you just need one :]
i desperately want to see you build a house that is as lilsimsie as possible. blue suburban, pool, chess table outside, computer desk in the hallway, no clipping corner doors, but unapologetically.

I actually played part of my legacy challenge in this house unedited. I ended up with the two adults, quads, and then the elder parents and all I did was add on another bedroom and bathroom. I thought it was pretty okay as far as gameplay went. I didn't find too much inmy way, which is cool.
I always add a pool to this house and change the study and kids room. I just edit the study because its not amazing and I turn the kids room into a gym

very complex, but very entertaining.
Sandtrap Flat has a big square space in the back yard that I think can be used for a pool.
Challenge: renovate old bacegame houses only using bacegame stuff. And the winners build gets put into a new pack world built by the sims community

OMGOsh this is so cool seeing what you do with this house. I renovated this house for my first legacy challenge Sim to live in (is not the regular legacy challenge, they let you start out with a pretend 70k loan to buy a house with and I leveled up his career pretty fast so was able to do a fancy reno). But yeah I also added a pool too because that back yard is just screaming "I'm supposed to have a pool yo!" And I also put a pergola over the sitting area too because it was just too bland and open ^_^
Also, if you expand the patio out to go under the pool area, the pool will be the same height as the patio and you can just have your latter from the patio into the pool. Not sure if that many people realize that, but it works.

I really think that the sims team should revamp the 2 basegame worlds. Collab with simmers and renovate the whole worlds. Keep the character and the vibe though
