      And somehow, contrary to all intuition and logic, the wooden tractor will be better built and more practical than the commercial version. Sadly, citing time and physics, I fear Matthias will deny us the please of such a project.

    Tractors are just awesome engineering. Simple and and well thought out and incredibly useful once you have one. I'd say they are just as, if not more important than the car as a social changer. Plowing and harvesting was never the same for example. Congratulations!

    Nice tractor Matthias! Careful with round things on the bucket like that. A surprising number of people die each year by being crushed by logs and round bales that kick over the back of the bucket with the loader high in the air. Once you see someone pass that way, it is something that you cannot forget.

    I love driving tractors. So much power and utility its crazy. Also the very crude feeling of the clutch (at least in the ones I used to drive) just gives it such a sweet feeling. That seemed to work out nicely, kudos to that.

    I've always liked tractors. I think it's the sound, and the changing smells of fresh country air mixed with diesel. You can see so much more at a slow pace and there's always a sense of power and usefulness too. There's more to like about farming than just growing stuff for sale. Thanks for the clip.

    When I was a kid I used to use my parent's tractor very often. Not for agricultural things but we had horses and needed it to bring them water, build fences and my dad is a hunter so we used it to bring self-built deerstands to the surrounding countryside. Watching your video I instantly missed the smell of working with a tractor... I don't know why, but I always liked it.

    Nice tractor there. :)
    Word of a warning though - if you're pulling something very sturdy like willow shrubs off the ground, do it in reverse. My grandfather was pulling willows off and had chains tied to the rear of the tractor. He ended up flipping it and without a cabin, poor man fell right under that thing. Luckily he survived with three broken ribs and punctured chest cavity, but the tractor has never ran since.

    That was fun. When I was a kid my dad had a track-layer type tractor with a bucket loader like yours and a set of rippers on the back. I was too young to ever get to drive it, but he used to hoist me way up in the bucket. There's nothing so fun as heavy equipment!

    Glad to see you wearing hearing protection. That way you can not hear the keyboard commandos questioning YOUR choice to preserve your hearing. Keep it up. Just a word of advice when hauling a load in the tractor bucket, keep the bucket low to the ground to keep the center of gravity low. If traveling quickly, it could only take a small bump on the ground to sway the bucket and tip the tractor over. Don't ask how I know. Love your vids.

    • @rusty0101
      @rusty0101 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree in general on keeping the load low. Two factors involved in raising that load at that time,
      1 the unsecured chain. If that were being dragged instead of suspended, has the potential for getting caught under the tires, and causing significant issues with the load. Fix for that would be to have a screw gun and some screws along to secure the end of the chain (after wrapping it around that post multiple times) so that it isn't being dragged.
      2 the expectation that the load was wider than the space available because of trees or brush at the level he had been carrying it. This should have been a brief raise and then lower to pass the obstruction. He commented on the obstruction in the video, as well as the chain, but I suspect he felt the danger was not worth the effort at fighting with the chain. (I think he was wrong, but he was the one driving, not me.)
      As an observation, both trips with the shorter poles were done with the bucket low, though perhaps not as low as it should have been. Things like that come with education and experience. More with experience.

    I have a John Deere 5210 with a loader on the front and a blade on the back (and a 6' snowblower when I need it). I don't use it very often but when I need it it is the only tool that will work! Well worth the money to have a tractor around the 1 acre spread! Thanks for the video!

    The only bad thing is if you paint it your usual green, people will think it is a John Deere. Case and International are good tractors. The farm I used to work on had one of each, and they were tanks. We cut, raked, bailed, and moved hay (round bales) with those things all day and they never slowed down. Very nice purchase!!!!

      A simple pole barn, perhaps with piece-en-piece walls.
      That building style allows one to use short lengths of logs, 8 or 10 feet. A lot of buildings for the fur trade era were built this way, as were others.

    Time to build a tractor shed! Consider adding a pulley system between the tractor bucket and your workshop to lift other heavy items onto a workbench. I grew up on a farm where my dad was proud of our perfect safety record, my advice is to slow down with a load, and keep the loader bucket as low as you can and only raise it when necessary. Dad also taught me that diesel engines don't like being bogged down at low rpms, always better to have the engine running faster than what it sounded like in the video.

    • @dwightl5863
      @dwightl5863 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally agree with keeping the loader low. Loader raised raises the center of gravity and if a wheel goes over a hole--over she goes. Seen it happen. Loader is probably the most useful attachment of any for a tractor.

    I agree it is a little bigger than I would have chosen for you, but a front end loader is really priceless when you need it.
    Especially that one that has hydraulic tilt.
    With 4 wheel drive and power steering a heavy load should be no problems.
    Now if you buy any huge antique cast iron woodworking machines you can move them yourself.
