For colouring 3D embossing folders, I am currently addicted to ink blending (sponge or brush, both work) the images and then blacking out the background (dark blue or green work, too) by hand painting around the images. The raised lines help, it is quite forgiving, if time consuming - I find it meditative and very relaxing. You need to concentrate but not think 😊. The look is very dramatic and using smaller blending brushes you can do the details. Plus you can colour correct a little while the ink is wet. Starting with light colours helps, too. Yes to the recorder, 1 day & it will seem like you just turn around, your house will be quiet aka empty nest & it's just as deafening. The only noise now is our dogs or us talking loud from one room to another, lol BTW beautiful cards ❤❤
My mom took up smoking so she could go outside while I practiced my flute. Eventually, she realized it was easier to send me out and stop smoking! I love the looks you achieved with these markers are something I'm going to look into. TFS!
Love your cards & love watching you color. I belong to a senior citizen recorder group. I play soprano & tenor recorders. We also have alto & bass recorders. I never played in grammar school. I practice using TH-cam- if you type in recorder sheet music your son can practice with background music & the pointer shows where you are. It's just a hint that might help him. My group consists of senior 60-90. It's great that you encourage him. Have fun!
Love the recorder story and your demonstration of these markers. Just placed an order for a set. I am a middle school band teacher, and during Covid when I had to give band lessons via zoom, I had a (really good) Clarinet player whose dog would howl through her entire lesson if she let him stay in the room with her! Kids, music and pets - what more could one ask for😊
Gorgeous cards, Kelly, as always! As for noisy kids toys, I let my family know before our daughter was born that if they wanted to gift a noisy toy, she would only play with it at their house! Worked great. Recorders, on the other hand, I encouraged our daughters to play but then, I liked them when I was in school too and I went on to play flute.
Oh, my, the acrylic markers look so good on the black cardstock. I think they worked really well on the 3D embossing folders and they look nice as no line coloring with the stamped images. Thank you for showing another product crafters may want to try in their card making.
It's a generational thing with the recorders! When I complained to my mum about how much my kids practicing their recorder got on my nerves, she said "What goes around comes around!" She hated it too apparently. Now my grandson has one and my daughter said it drives her crazy and grates on her nerves. My mother's words jumped right out of my mouth!! "What goes around comes around!" 🤣 Stunning cards by the way.
I love the cards you created and hope to see more of these markers. I really want to know how they do over time.
As for noise…. My husband and both young adult sons are musicians and have been their entire lives. My house is usually noisy, really, really noisy. Husband plays guitar and is in 3 bands. Older son is a singer and plays guitar ( currently deployed in Germany right now though.) Oh, and younger son… plays the drums. In the house because of our neighbors. Is in 2 bands and practices daily. I actually worry when they are home and it’s quiet. lol. The best part is that they are all really talented and I get to listen to live music on a daily basis. Just sometimes while watching TH-cam with headphones. 😂
Have worked with acrylics doing paintings, I love this concept for cards. The butterfly embossing folder is amazing. This is going on my shopping list.

When my son was Nathan’s age, he played the baritone horn in school. It was bigger than he was, and the struggle to get it onto the school bus would have been hysterical if it had been anyone else’s kid.

So Funny, I thought the markers were going to be noisy! Motorcycles, LANDSCAPERS w ancient, polluting, gas-motored tools, trucks, aarrrghh. This WAS a very quiet street 100,000 people ago :(
These are so pretty! They kinda look like a cartoon! Hope I'm not the only one who thought that! I love them!
The colors are pretty. It makes the flowers look kinda cartoony which I love. My dog sits with me sometimes when I craft but just essentially to sniff all my stuff and make sure I pull out the right stuff ya know! I don’t have children so no noise here and I love that since my work week its too loud I certainly appreciate the quietness of being home. I do live in a National park and I am lucky to have inspiration from the nature outside my window❤

Oh, I know Dark Side of the Moon! Love it, love Pink Floyd. Their music is so layered and so emotional. Your cards are beautiful. Not sure I will purchase these, but they seem like a great medium. And of course, you seem like an expert with them already! ❤
I bought these markers then used them for a couple of cards. I colored using stencils on black cardstock and they look very dramatic. I didn't add shading like you did and the cards still look great but now I must try your techniques with both stamps and 3D embossing folders! I love this medium and I hope to apply what you demonstrated here. Your cards are stunning Kelly! Thank you so much for sharing your opinions and ideas!! ❤

LOVE these cards Kelly! So much - I’m all about the drama of a dark background topped with beautiful, vibrant images (made so by YOU)! Ah yes the recorder! I still have mine (& I’m old, old). I was never good at it, but so desperately wanted to be. It’s so true that a household with children is a NOISY household! Quiet seems like an otherworldly concept. But then when they grow and are gone, you’ll miss the noise! At least occasionally lol!
I had a Recorder when I was at school, actually still have it. Graduated to the violin loved both of them. Your cards a beautiful not sure if it's the medium for me, but who knows once I see you making beautiful things I maybe will want to try them. That's usually how it happens 😂😂❤🎉

I really can't color worth a hoot...as far as shading and such but I did buy these as soon as I saw them after watching a video where someone used them to color in a stencil on black cardstock. I was shocked but grateful they didn't cost more than that. So freaking glad I saw your video because dummy me didn't think about using them on embossing folders that don't come with coloring stencils and I definitely need to try the markers on them.
I sure would use the white pen, but not sure if I’d use the set much. But I sure love what you’ve done with them!
I would have expected paint markers to be hard to work with, so I'm glad to see they aren't. I have the 24 set of Posca markers on my Amazon wishlist, but at $55, they are more than double what these Altenew ones are. I will have to compare the colors.
Recorder 3rd-6th grade?! That's rough! When I was in elementary school, you only did that in one grade, but my parents got the shaft because they had me switch schools and at one school, they did it in 3rd grade and at the next school, they did it in 4th grade. So, I had to do the recorder in two grades. I kept the same recorder through both schools/years though. So, they didn't have to buy me two. 4th grade was also the year I started playing violin and the same teacher that taught recorder (the music teacher, obviously) taught orchestra and knowing that I already did recorder, she wanted me to focus more on my violin practice. So, that was a relief. Not sure my parent's ears really got a break either way though. Haha!
I got set for my great niece's along with Dylusions black journal, she does art with her mother, I like that she gets to use new medium without the pumping most paint makers need

These are awesome 🎉I hope they aren't already sold out. I love embossing folders so much and finally have a good supply however was struggling a bit for a better way to showcase them and I think this might be it!!!So excited 🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
They are fabulous with embossing folders, like Kelly i really struggled with colouring my embossing folders, nothing looked quite right. These markers are fantastic for that and only a light touch is needed. Well worth buying just for EF.
They also work well with the betterpress system for colouring
This video had me running to my embossing folders. Most of mine are patterns rather than images but I have a few. No reason I couldn’t color a pattern. Paint pens would work well for coloring the backside of embossed acetate.
I primarily use Posca paint pens because of the variety of color and especially the range of nib sizes. But Posca is so much more expensive than the set you are using, but it is available open stock. What did you say Altenew’s pens were? $25 for 24? That’s a good price. Open stock Posca are typically like $4-5 depending on nib size. In sets, you can get the price down to around $2 per pen.
Posca says they have 66 colors but they are including Metallic, glitter, and fluorescent in their tally. In the regular markers there are 44 colors, 42 if you exclude black and white.
I mostly use paint pens for canvas, rock, and ceramics. They are also great on terracotta pots and fabric.
The tip I wanted to share with my fellow crafters is that you can use colored pencils on top of the paint pens. CP is excellent on top of acrylic paint especially the paints that dry to a flat sheen like these acrylic markers do. By using CP over the acrylic you can get more color variety as well as shading and highlights. I was super impressed with Kelly’s shading and highlighting especially given the limited palette. ❤

Beautiful cards, as usual. I can't remember if you said you have tried the glitter pens (that's not what they are called but that's what they look like). I love Altenew products and I appreciate seeing you use them especially on the 3 d embossed card stock. As for the recorder. Are you talking about a voice recorder? Why would they get a recorder unless it was to record their teacher instead of taking notes? I graduated in 1982 so maybe they started being used after I left school. Yes, kids are loud. I think back to when there were 6 kids in a 3 bedroom house. No wonder my mom had evenings out with the other ladies minus any children.
I actually got these markers, but I DEFINITELY didn’t do nearly as well as you did when I used them…guess I need to step up my game!
Fifth grade! That’s when recorders happen in our school district…and there is a competition to win a “Golden Flute” (a spray painted recorder 🤣) that the kids do that requires memorizing 10 songs on the recorder. My poor ears made it thru two kids winning golden flutes

I don’t like seeing streaks or lines. Even when I wash my windows I go crazy with streaks so even though I love Altenew 3D EF I won’t buy the acrylic markers. They are my favourite supplier but I will skip the acrylic. Love the way you used them though.
