This Sport is a MIX of Hockey and Football...

- Bandy is a precursor to the game of Ice Hockey as we know it today, and although Ice Hockey has become the more popular sport, Bandy remains as the SECOND most popular Winter Sport worldwide. Bandy is essentially a mix of Hockey and European Football, played on a much larger sheet of Ice than North American Ice Hockey. With free strokes and corner strokes, plus yellow and red cards taken from inspiration of soccer. Bandy has fast-paced skillful action for all to enjoy!

Field hockey on ice
Exactly
Ice hockey, oh wait
Kinda the positions aren't the same but that thing with the corners is kind of
Exactly ty
Has actually more similarities to Football than field hockey, even if it has parts of booth and ice hockey
I can say this. I have competed in this sport. A very very popular sport here in Sweden.
Edit: It seems like a discussion and not the most popular sport. But it is popular.
This looks so fun
same in Finland
@@lawncaretoamillionagreed
@@tuomasreunanen1497cool
Bandy är inte så populärt här i Sverige 🇸🇪
this has the feel of field hockey but on ice
What ice hockey could have become
@@CharecterHappy no I very much doubt it would have ever become that. The rink is way too big. Too expensive to maintain and far less hitting. Also the fans would be too far from the action. Also skating up and down that much more ice could cause much more wear and tear on players.
@@bb55555555all that and it's also shit
Could you imagine mcdavid just skating by everyone then just puts the ball top shelf since the net is huge
I’d honestly love to see NHL players compete in this.
I've played and am a referee and a couple of the things you stated are wrong. Body to body contact is allowed and the higher the level you play at the more contact is allowed including contact that's not allowed.
The goalkeeper can use their whole body and depending on the situation tackle players.
So better than soccer but worse than hockey.
Yes
Soccers better we have more fans too
@@hughg.rection8567 incorrect it is not better. You do have more fans though.
@@Greenfrog98 soccer has more rivalries, better atmosphere and more strategy. And the tickets aren’t expensive
@@hughg.rection8567 nah it’s too hot. And idc about ticket prices I could see it for free if I wanted too.
Fun fact. This was the favorite winter sport for Russians pre Soviet union. They outlawed the sport and replaced it with Ice Hockey so that the Soviets could compete with the Western world at more popular sport.
Really, is that why they played in every Bandy World championship since 1957 and got more gold medels than any other team during that period? (and has continued to be dominant as Russia since the collapse)
A mix of my two favourite sports
except its a mix of all the worst parts and none of the best, no full body contact? yawn
It would be so fun to play a normal hockey game on that big of an ice sheet
sounds crazy exhausting tho
Imagine Connor McDavid darting through 11 players
Zamboni would take 3-5 business days to clean the ice
10-15vmin and it isit's at least 2 zamboni machines has seen 3 som years.
I never heard of this sport 😅
Me either 😂😂😂
This sport is an interesting name for a sport. Seeing how they or no one ive seen has actually said the name of it
It is calked bandy. Russia, Sweden, Finland and some more countries play it.
This just sounds like field hockey on ice
You lost me at no contact
Pre much
Elaborate?
He wants to hit stuff real hard like his 80 decibel gorilla gym grunt@@highmedic2351
same
you can't have contact beacuse it would be to dangerous. The players are som much fatser and they only helmet and elbow pads on the body
it’s like ice hockey, floorball, field hockey and soccer all combined
slide tackling 💀
Honestly, I would absolutely love this if they would put in contact. You can still be safe while allowing hits. Or tackles if you're trying to emulate other sports. But this looks pretty sweet
He lost me at no body contact
he got it wrong its a high contact sport
@@msnslksksjjw no checking means no fun
There’s no body checking but body contact is allowed it just had to be shouldering not a full on open ice hit
HEHEHE FUCKIN EH RIGHT BROTHER!! I DONT CARE FOR NO SPORTS WHERE MEN DONT SLAM THEIR ENTIRE BODIES TOGETHER!! I LOVE WATCHING MEN SLAM INTO EACH OTHER AND BANG EACH OTHER SENSELESSLY UNTIL THEY BRUISE!! AMERICA!!! Amen Brother!
@@averagejojofan8649 exactly. Why would i want to gear up if i can't smash some loser into the boards. I might as well play tennis.
There’s also a sport called Eisfußbal which is played with a soccer ball and no sticks. Basically soccer played on ice
Bandy came a long time before hockey.
It’s like lacrosse and cricket. It came before but it is far inferior
@@averagejojofan8649he never said bandy originated from ice hockey he just said they are similar lol
Yes it came from the uk to here. Then was adapted into 2 sports Ice polo, and hockey then hockey began to combine with ice polo.
No it didn't
@@averagejojofan8649 fr but cricket is FAR better than baseball
It’s like the owner from Slap Shot started a hockey league. “I’ve never let the children watch a hockey game. It’s too violent.”
So its soccer on skates
Because its the contact that makes hockey hockey
Ya it’s definitely not the sticks that makes hockey, hockey
@@Minato0033 Well, clearly not, there's this sport that uses sticks, there's rugby and you could even consider a baseball bat to be a stick, in some places that's what's used to
@@johnnyslokes2712 in what capacity are sticks used in rugby? Genuine curiosity as someone from North America with little exposure to the sport.
I would agree, however, that it is a lot more than one factor making hockey, hockey. There are sports that came before it (ie:lacrosse) and sports that came after (ie: this, or broomball, maybe field hockey but I’m lazy) that share many similarities. It would be foolish to say the enclosed surface isn’t arguably the feature that most defines ice hockey. It would also be foolish to say the distinctive puck doesn’t define hockey. It’s just a given that as sports are created, they have some similarities and some differences. Each set of those appeal to specific audiences, who ultimately decide if the sport succeeds or not.
@@joeys8701 I misspoke when I said Rugby. I meant Lacrosse. A puck could be seen as a defining feature as well.
football*
The feel of hockey with the safety and softness of soccer.
and it takes much more agility bc games are longer in Bandy (45*2=90m in bandy while it's 30*2=60 in ice hockey) also the field is larger and the ball goes faster bc it's a "ball" not a puck
Yo I play hockey and this game sounds amazing
Yeah it sounds fun
I play too and it sounds fun
No it doesn’t
@@Soobee_LGRW that is your own opinion
@@Soobee_LGRW who?
I was a hockey player laughing at this when growing up, until I actually tried it, and to my surprise it was actually really fun.
It took me the length of the video to realize they meant association football and not American football.
You mean soccer.
@@BiffJackson-o4i soccer is short for association
American football is short for kick-n-hug the eggball
@@Kallogee Association football is short for hugging, grinding and kissing your teammates after kicking a ball into a 2 mile wide net.
@@BiffJackson-o4idifferent ways to celebrate, not to mention different cultures in other countries
As an Ice hockey player, this looks like it would be very fun. I’ve played on Olympic sized rinks and I though those were big, but this size, along with that many players looks like a lot of fun
Ite field hockey on ice hockey, Hockeyception
Sockey
Thats a good time in japan
more like Fockey (it's not soccer it's football)
Gotta love that 8bits NHL '94 sounds !
Seeing all of the people in the comments getting salty because they can't comprehend that other people like different sports 😂😂
It's funny that fans of other sports, the only ones who hate football/soccer are hockey fans.
True
The worlds fastest teamsport!
It is a contact sport, however since its is so much quicker than hockey, its incredibly difficult to hit someone head on, but shouldering tackles are common. And yeah, no chest/shoulder protection either, so when you hit em' they reaaally feel it.
I actually heard of this while researching something about Finland but didn’t look into it cuz I kinda just assumed it was another name for hockey but this seems interesting tbh
Aside from no hitting seems cool
he got it worng, you can tackle with your body but not trip someone with your stick
It's pretty popular in Russia. During winter, many football stadiums are converter to bandy fields and many people attend the games despite the cold weather
An actual sport
You talking about hockey right?
You cant really compare it to football, because the tempo is so much higher...
So they took the worst parts of soccer and removed the best parts of hockey. Where’s my full contact soccer, where we just let players fight it out instead of flopping like fish that were left behind by the tide? That’s the sport I really want to see.
Its called rugby
I play bandy and i find it really fun, its not to much physical contact and overall a really fun sport. It’s very big in Sweden and some parts of Norway!
Damn these comments are so mad they’re starting to become homophobic
Loser
In Sweden, football players used to play bandy during winter.
No physical contact? No thanks
Yeah it’s so terrible they do at want there playing falling against ice the whole game
@@PopNolan ❄️
Can you imagine Ice Hockey with 11v11....... its like a constant bench clear event.
too small of a rink
So they took the greatest sport on earth, and made it gay?
How is this gay please explain
We all know what soccer players do when they aren't faking injuries and kicking a ball.
@@peterpalsson1929 Because Hockey is the greatest on the planet, and soccer is the gayest. Taking hockey and trying to turn it into soccer = gay.

@Liam S. Yeah but here is no diving
Me and my nephew are new to hockey and I was just telling him what a hockey game with soccer size teams would be like.
Sounds lame
It is not tho. It is fun. Played it for many years.
"ok"
"No physical contact allowed-" imma stop you right there.
looks like a mix of field hockey on ice and golf swings
Popular sport here in finland🤘🏻🇫🇮 mixed of the two most popular sports! We like it🔥
Always gotta love a free stroke
Yea I know I have played it. It is quite popular where I live and the town is famous for Bandy
Man fell into the bench I’m dying right now
Dude we need to bring this in the US. This looks really fun.
just hockey but "bogger"
so happy that when it said contact jacob trouba appeared on the screen😊
The goalie is going to get his hands cut off trying to make a save
Bro I saw Kazakhstan in that a lot
I feel like it’s actually a mix of field and ice hockey
Looks more like field hockey to me
There is another name for this game - "Russian hockey" or "ball hockey"!
In the late 1940s, ice hockey began to be played in the USSR, it was called "Canadian hockey". Russian players quickly reached a high level of skill, because before that they played "Russian hockey"! Speed, collective pass play, excellent vision of the court - this came from Russian hockey. The legend of Soviet sports Vsevolod Bobrov played soccer in the summer, and in the winter - in "Russian hockey", and later - in Canadian hockey.
When you make up a new game in your backyard on a snowday
Yes Thats hockey for your 😂😂
this... is amazing. the only part i disagree with is having a ball instead of a puck. fuck that, use a puck. other than that, what a cool ass sport.
Bruh, the blue card is just a throw back to time outs in preschool
Its the true version of ice hockey
Great sport, wish this was more popular
AINT NO WAY BRO SAID FOOTBALL
well, not everyone is "American"
I am convinced a person made this sport so he could invent different strokes
So ice hockey but taking all the fast paced cool stuff out of it and adding a broadway show
Is no one going to talk about the dude falling over the boards into the bench 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have an idea, lets take all the worst aspects of soccer and put them into hockey!
Add hits and I’m sold
Soccer on ice is weird to see but pretty cool
This 1 got me excited ❤
“SOCCER”
its football
Hockey and Soccer!!
Sounds pretty cool.
It used to be an outdoor sport - but now it's often inside sport.
They actually showed the rink I work at lol
Dude the second ice rink in the beginning is call the north well ice rink and I’ve played there many times and it’s on Long Island
Sounds like taking all the fun out of hockey
more strategy. I spend my money on a ticket to see a good game of HOCKEY not a BOXING match
Sergio Ramos is bouta break every single tule in the game
Better comparison would be that this is field hockey but on ice.
Hockey sticks used to be straight too
I play bandy and am from Sweden
The refrigerator bill cost!!!!!!
I can just hear it now , HOW DARE YOU...
Thats partial why its a dying sport now.
@@hogerextrem it must be an incredible effort to freeze that. I'm not a climate alarmist. But why wouldn't this be played on rollerblades if it involves a ball in place of a puck?

I❤ Bandy 🥅🏑⛸️! Peter from Switzerland 🇨🇭⛑️
What a absolute nightmare
And the spectators often drink Lumumbas. That's rum and hot chocolate, preferably from a thermos.
This reminds me of Australian football league.
American living is sweden here. You ever go to a match. Don't forget your boozed up hot chocolate. Pro tip.
I would LOVE to try this!
I'm soooo glad Canadians and Americans evolved the game to ice hockey 😂😂 🏒
I acually play bandy here in sweden
Extremely popular in Sweeden, Finland, and Russia. That's pretty much it.
It’s also played in Norway
popular in sweden but we mainly play floorball or as we call it innebandy wich is bandy but a hockey goal and no ice
sorry but floorball (Yes, that's what it's called in English) is hockey without ice with a ball
And for some reason English speakers often don't know what floorball is so that's why i clarified it🐟👍
SO bandy is basically 'field hockey on ice" and floorball is "ice hockey without the ice"
@@Wolfghost18 basically
In Finland we say this is iceball
Bro it’s literally soccer with those dugouts
