It's not a money pit. It's a passion project. Wanting to upgrade didn't make it a money pit, NEEDING to repair constant issues is what makes a money pit car. This one is about the love of the car. I have owned a handful of foxes and have kept my first one as my own passion project. The first iteration was a Vortech V3 that made 570 to the wheels on the stock block, through a GT40 tubular manifold. I'm now deep down the rabbit hole. I just had a Dart 363 built for it, a new Vortech V7, Tremec TKX, E85 fuel system, Holley engine management, e.t.c. The target is 900whp. I've learned one important lesson along the way, if I couldn't do the large majority of the work myself I wouldn't be doing the car to this level. The foxbody is the ultimate Lego car. Build it however you want. The parts are endless. But so is the possibility for you to wrench on your own car. The hardest part for me is knowing that I'll have to turn it over someone else for paint and body work. It will be the final piece of the puzzle. It looks good now, but I'll need to address the paint down the road, and that's something that I'm not good at. I think you know, a car is never truly done. You just have to draw the line at some point and enjoy what you've created.
That thing looks amazing with those wheels...good choice. Nice build man..power adder wouldn't hurt..thats what I went with instead of building the motor. Wish the body shop used the right length door molding..still never checked into know why Ford made the two lengths..seen a few shops over the years get tripped up by that
@itsreallyjakub vortech v3! Just watch out cause with that jump in horsepower you have two big limiting factors- stock block splitting at 500 hp and the t5 trans being only rated at 300 tq
I've been where you are long ago. I brought a 1985 GT in 1985, a 1987, and a 1990. Natural aspirated the 85 to low 12 seconds got the 87 to high tens with a vortech S trim and 88 mm turbo on the 90. The lesson was 😢 faster I went, the more parts I broke. The 12 second car was dead reliable. Today, I have a 2019 Mustang GT with a Whipple charger and 10 speed. I miss the foxes until I nail go peddle and then all that loneliness goes away. Like some, I do my own work. Have fun
Jakub, thanks for going over the build and hello from Ottawa. I was always curious about what went into it. I will say though: $50k USD into it and it's still running an OG 4-lug setup with drums? That should be next on your list before you even think of adding more power to it. I've had my 1988 Mustang LX since 2012 and estimate I've put around $25k CAD in it since then in parts and labour. I'm running virtually the exact same engine setup as you, making the same power on the dyno. My suspension kit is very similar to yours as well. Last year I upgraded to a 5 lug big brake setup. Found all brand new in box OEM Ford performance parts a guy was selling. The last thing on my list is a paint job. Mine's not rusty at all but the original paint isn't what it was. You're absolutely right that this kind of build can be done for much less, but you don't have to be a TH-camr to justify it.
Yeah I definitely should have done the brakes a long time ago. I almost did them with the initial build. But I didn’t have access to the car and I had to do a lot of math with wheel clearance and brake clearance I just avoided it all and got the 4 bolt welds and now 4 bolt reimagined classics. I live with my mistake now. Yours sounds great
@@itsreallyjakub If you ever decide to go with a 5 lug setup, feel free to reach out to me on here. I spent a lot of time researching the different parts and what's needed to make it all work. I see nothing wrong with that wheel gap and love those Cobra wheels. Being an old man (I was in high school when the 87 refresh hit), I loved these cars except when I got pulled over by South Carolina State Trooper who was rocking the LX5.0 notchback....(they also had a BMW M5 that I saw rolling once).
Looks so much better. Love it!!! As a previous 5.0 fox body owner, I’ve never liked the weld wheels. I appreciate the function of them, but these new wheels change the look so much. In my opinion so much better!!! My only preference would be reimagined 5 star pony wheels lol. but I’m being nostalgic to my old 5.0. Congrats Jacob. Hope to see it around town
I have a 91 GT I bought new currently 40,000 miles on it I did a B&M trans rebuild but 33 years I have done nothing but change the oil and put on Flowmasters . I did the rebuild on the trans by choice the factory auto's sucked and putting street and strip guts in it was the move. These 5.0's lightly modified run forever. Sweet wheels I still like my pony mags better😅
I don't understand the design. The huge center cabs make no sense to me. If you want to waste more money on the Mustang, look up the Mustang they used to race in DTM for inspiration 😉😉
Wheels look cool, a bit like turbines. A supercharger would add to the amazing sound but maybe a small one that only boosts a little to not overstress the engine(?)
I'm currently building a fox right now. Going with 347 with aluminum 185cc heads, e cam, 5 speed, cx racing single turbo kit. Getting real close to finish the assembly on it. Saving funds to get the last few parts. I wanted everything brand new except for the block. Oh, also terminator x.
Yep I would have done it all myself and spent far less… that’s the fun of it all anyway! And family and job come first but hey we always find a way when we want to. Looks clean!
On the contrary, if I did my car again i would start with a cheap, no-rust, high-mileage 4-cylinder that had been beat. Then I would do chassis stiffening, the RideTech SLA/IRS combo, really good brakes, and flares/wide-body to get a lot of tire to fit. You'd end up with something that will measure up nicely against a newer Mustang, Camaro, or Corvette.
Im torn on the wheels, draglites are way too cool on foxbodies, but those new wheels look oem+ which is my other auto fetish lol. Supercharge it. Turbos are sweet, but in ontario its way too easy to lose your license, and it sucks not being able to even spool up without looking around for heat first. You can still have a good ET, cool noises, and more fun at mosport and on ontario streets where you can lose your license for shifting too high in the rpms.
Yeah there cool looking on a fox but personally with the plethora of 17" & 18' of wheel designs my absolute favorite timeless wheel is the 5 spoke cobra wheel especially the 95 Cobra R version, I have the standard 18x9 R wheels that are getting tired my goal is the 18x10 or 10.5 "deep dish" version for the rear and 18x9 deep dish for the front my opinion is 18" is absolutely the perfect look on mustangs you get that modern big wheel performance look without the goofy donk look and 17" cobras do look good also but imo just don't quite have that modern look, with those slightly have bit less offset i hopefully I can ditch the spacers which I have 1.5" or 2" in the rear can't remember and 1" for front which was a night n day transformation of my 95 GT over the factory 16x7.5 I think soft 5 spoke OEM wheels which are not only narrow but with the wide sn95 body and the heavy positive offset wheels it tucks them way under the rear it looked terrible., only down side is with decent amount of wheel poke lowering it at all is not an option the rears would run badly on the wheel arch im sure front maybe not but likely. Only down side is the price of those wheels just went through the roof, not long ago they were bit over $200 each now soared to $350! That's pretty high for a probably chinese knockoff cast wheel in my opinion. I still wonder what old school muscle car rims and tires like a 15x10 deep dish and 15x7 or 8 with 60s would look like it looks tough on an old gen 2 Camaro, nova or Chevelle but I suspect they would just look out of place on an sn95. My 76 nove SS had 14x8 with 235/60 and 14x5 or 6 with 215/70 or something aluminum slots and it looked killer, a buddy had 14x10 craigars on rear of his 69 firebird and those had a flat dish for miles with serious poke they looked soooo tough imo. Bet terrible to mount tires with that non stepped flat dish.
I’d switch to a Cobra spoiler to go with the Cobra theme since you have the new wheels. And I’d leave the front end at that height because when you leave parking lots or any establishments to the main road You would be glad your not scuffing your front bumper. Especially if you decide to get the CF lip spoiler later😂

How do you like the Continental tires? I put the Extreme Contact Sport 02s on my C6 Z06. I like the tires but they are narrow compared to the Michelin Pilot Super Sport. On my 12.5" rear rim the 335/25/20 is quite stretched even though 12.5" rims are a listed fitment. On the Continental the tire width is 11.8" whereas the Michelin is 12.6" So, my only complaint is that I wish the Continental was a bit wider. Otherwise such a great tire!

Nitrous would be period correct, probably, but I'd be on team supercharger. It's not so much a money pit if it's bullet proof and something you love. Thank you for all the great content!
Should have gone with chrome. But they still look good. I would say two medium size turbos or a mean whipple set up for power adder. 550-600 wheel horsepower is about the butter zone for a drivable reliable street car.
@@itsreallyjakub damn snooze I lose 😂 I saw the terminator purchase. I’m a part of a terminator club in Detroit so I’m excited for that the most. Give me some more of that and I forget the fox lol
I kinda like the look of the old ones. Reminded me of the stereotype I grew up with. The new ones do modernize the car from most angles. I think only the headlights give it away. I wonder if there's a modern looking headlight mod that doesn't look cheesy....
As much as I love my 64 Nova, part of me thinks that hobby cars are a lousy investment from a financial standpoint. Unless it is something really rare, you usually end up with more money in it than you can sell it for. I bought my car as a teenager with a 3k budget. If I had more money to spend upfront on a project car, I could have bought a car that was a better starting point and saved in the long run. Now that I have alot of money tied up in it years later, I sometimes think that it would have been cheaper to buy a finished car to start with than to build my car. lol
Cool project. My good friend had an ‘87 LX 5.0 when we were teenagers back in the 80s. It was the fastest car in the real world to us (except for the occasional Corvette or Grand National). It killed the IROC Camaros and Firebirds. Today it would get killed by Most pickup truck and mini vans. Your engine mods made a huge difference. I never knew making the 5.0 breathe better with cylinder heads, cam and headers could add 140-ish crank HP. BTW the headers link in the description is dead. What exhaust did you use? I did not see it on your list and it sure doesn’t sound stock. I think the wheels look fantastic but personally would’ve gone with some lightweight forged 17s.
These old 5.0's love a simple HCI setup. Headers are Flowtech long tubes and the rest of the exhaust is custom. I originally had it fully straight piped but couldn't deal with the smell and eyes watering on every drive. So it's straight through with 2 small high flow cat's into a hot rod scott's valved exhaust, which is straight through when opened
If you're ever in Indiana I'll let you check out my built Fox. A Vortech V1 blower with full MAC exhaust on a stock bottom end 302... The way a Fox should be.
The wheels look amazing!!! Did you go with lighter brakes and calipers? Definitely add a Whipple SC to secure another 200-250 rwhp!!!! It is do awesome that you received sponsorship support on your build. Hey I am subscribed to your TH-cam channel!!!! You guys do great videos!!!! Cheers‼️👍👊💪🔥🇺🇸🇨🇦✝️
I kept the stock brakes. Drums in the rear. Definitely could use an upgrade. The list never ends. Whipple doesn't make a kit for this. Vortech, Paxton, Procharger, Kenne Bell, etc
@@itsreallyjakub go with the Pro-Charger but upgrade the rear drum brakes to disc brakes first!!!! The Mustang looks great!!! I have the 60th anniversary Corvette 427. It has the LS7 engine like your yellow Z06. I am searching for a good shop to enhance the valve guides and Heads + do what you did by changing the cam and add Kooks headers while the engine is out. 30K miles on my 427; bought it new in Jan 2013. Car came with the ZR1 suspension and carbon fiber hood and fenders and spoiler/side skirts. The 427 only came in a convertible and 6 speed manual!!! It was like the first convertible Z06 model!!! Cheers‼️👍👊💪
@@gordydexter2615 that’s awesome those are super rare. Definitely recommend getting everything I did. If you want slightly more streetable manners, go with a stage 2 cam and keep the stock valved mufflers
Money pit? I don't think so. Look at the price of new cars. You have built a super clean Foxbody Mustang that is quick and handles. I think you should finish the suspension and add a supercharger. Your car looks amazing. Keep it.
My buddy has a 1990 LX 5.0 Notchback and he has an easy 40K into it already.. More than likely it's more money than that.. And he just keeps on spending.. I know in the back of his mind he knows he could have already bought a new car with the money he has spent.. But to each his own.. The sad part is no one will ever give him what he has into it and that goes for a lot of us..
I'm going to be honest. I'm not a fan of wheels that large on a foxbody. As long as you like them, thats most important. Otherwise you did a fantastic job with the car!
Interesting, I wasn't aware of them! PI lawyer here and I never wrapped my head around how people got their builds covered. There are definitely a lot of people running round in modded cars that are taking a huge gamble that if someone gets hurt their policy will be voided.

Nitrous would be period correct, probably, but I'd be on team supercharger. It's not so much a money pit if it's bullet proof and something you love. Thank you for all the great content!
Vortech would also be period correct!
Should have gone with chrome. But they still look good. I would say two medium size turbos or a mean whipple set up for power adder. 550-600 wheel horsepower is about the butter zone for a drivable reliable street car.
It’s for sale now
@@itsreallyjakub damn snooze I lose 😂 I saw the terminator purchase.
These lights are as modern as it gets for looking good. They’re completely clear rather than the original ones with lines through them
As much as I love my 64 Nova, part of me thinks that hobby cars are a lousy investment from a financial standpoint. Unless it is something really rare, you usually end up with more money in it than you can sell it for. I bought my car as a teenager with a 3k budget. If I had more money to spend upfront on a project car, I could have bought a car that was a better starting point and saved in the long run. Now that I have alot of money tied up in it years later, I sometimes think that it would have been cheaper to buy a finished car to start with than to build my car. lol
Cars are a terrible investment
I’ve been upset hearing that you were changing the Weld wheels, but the modern interpretation of the Cobra wheels is a great addition!
Thanks!
Looks horrible. Needs a Mustang on the center cap at least.
New look....approved!!! 👍
Glad you like it!
Your fuel door is on the driver’s side ? I can’t remember exactly l, but I thought my Foxbody had the fuel door on the passenger side.
No it’s on the passenger side
Supercharge or turbo . Id go supercharger cause if you were going turbo you would have done the pistons when you did the head work
More of this please.
Another foxbody video coming this week
Those wheels are 🔥🔥!
If you're ever in Indiana I'll let you check out my built Fox. A Vortech V1 blower with full MAC exhaust on a stock bottom end 302... The way a Fox should be.
That sounds like exactly what I might do. But probably a V3
Foxbodys are never a money pit, i prefer the term "financial investments"
Yes yes. Investment
In my opinion, these are the best looking wheels for the foxbody GT.
Now Arby’s isn’t the only one who can say “we have the meats “! Looks great!
M E A T
Clean build until I saw that black engine bay. Next time you yank the engine, I would get that redone, body color. It's a must on a fox.
If this engine ever comes out again it’ll be for sale lol
If you want slightly more streetable manners, go with a stage 2 cam and keep the stock valved mufflers
lol had my Foxbody for 15 years and over 30k$ into it. I bought it for 5k$ 😩🤣😂 but I love it
Right on
Money pit? I don't think so. Look at the price of new cars. You have built a super clean Foxbody Mustang that is quick and handles. I think you should finish the suspension and add a supercharger. Your car looks amazing. Keep it.
Fair enough!
Love those foxbody mustangs
The orange paint job reminds me of a Charizard 🔥
Drag strip sounded like you still had stock rear end gears.?
Yup. And conveniently I have a rear end problem. Next video next week
Haha yup that’s exactly where I’m at. I understand the pain
The new wheels are sick!! 🤩🤑
Thanks Mike!!
take a look at the rims of the skyline yes a japaense car, i like the rims on that car, it would look great on any mustang.
sweet car dude.
But did it come with an adidas windbreaker tracksuit?
Where did you buy a fox body for $3500? That's what I like to know.
My local classified site. In 2020
Those wheels fit that 5.0 perfect
Best wheels for the fox body 👍🏼
Those wheels are way to vanilla ice looking for me! 😂
What size are your front draglite and backspacing
15x6 with 3.5” backspace
It's never a financial mistake when it's your passion and you love the car, if you think that way then go collect pokemon
Our ancestors would rise up against those tariffs!! It’s embarrassing what we let government do!
Id love to watch ya build a 347 stroker...
I'm going to be honest. I'm not a fan of wheels that large on a foxbody. As long as you like them, thats most important. Otherwise you did a fantastic job with the car!
Look ma, we made it onto TH-cam lol. I approve of the next unboxing 🤣
Hahahahha thanks for mounting the tires and doing such a great job opening the boxes
Noooo don't sell it! I know you just got a terminator but please keep this and supercharge it, that would be awesome.
Selling it! Need the space
@@itsreallyjakub Damn damn damn! Good luck with sale.
Love those wheels 😍👍🏻
Yessssss!!!!! My fav wheels for a fox. So hawt
How do you deal with insurance on modified cars in Ontario?
Hagerty 👍
Chubb also
Interesting, I wasn't aware of them! PI lawyer here and I never wrapped my head around how people got their builds covered. There are definitely a lot of people running round in modded cars that are taking a huge gamble that if someone gets hurt their policy will be voided.
Improvement!
Supercharger and lower the front 5 mm
Both of those would be ideal
