- Before the National Gallery of Canada's exhibition Van Gogh: Up Close could open in Ottawa it first had to open in our partner institution, The Philadelphia Museum of Art. This meant Van Gogh's Iris, a key work for the exhibition's central thesis and a greatly valued painting in the National Gallery's collection, first had to travel down to Philadelphia.
But how does a priceless painting make it from our gallery to theirs? How is it prepared for travel? How is it packaged, transported, and cared for along the way? For a behind the scenes look at how this journey was completed, watch this short film.
He would be amazed at this level of care
The 'Pieta' was brought to NYC and displayed at the 1964 Worlds Fair. I understand it was moved to NYC uninsured because it is to valuable to put a price on it. That defines priceless.
Congratulations! an honour to learn albeit almost a decade later. I just got interested to paint mandalas on mdf boards using acrylic colours and van gogh's colours and vivid expressions are a huge inspiration for me. Thank you for this video!
I saw this exhibition in Philadelphia, It was breathtaking. Thank you for your contribution in making it all possible.
In his time nobody was interested in his works even his own doctor, except his brother & wife who took care of his whole collection, we have to be graitfull to them !!
Very interesting! Thanks so much for posting this. Very much looking forward to Up Close in Ottawa next month.

Interesting! Kinda slow video.
I will never understand how they can ship a painting with glass on top... That's like storing gasoline next to a boiler to me...
