Beethoven's 6th, in it's entirety, is one of my favorite pieces of all time. In recent times I've really become fond of this 2nd movement. To me it really encapsulates life, and the long journey it takes to get to where you are going.
There is a reason why this is called the Pastoral symphony. The second movement especially attests to it's natural ability to captivate the essence of the rural lands of Europe before the industrial era.
My favorite movement of this symphony or any symphony. It just speaks to my heart and transports me into a deep wood by a running waterfall with butterflies and small animals moving about in the sunshine; the fresh air of the mountains. I just love this piece! :)
A couple of weeks ago I was riding on the train from Munich to Vienna. As the rolling hills and lush prairie swished by the window, this exact music was in my mind. I was mesmerized
Listening for the giraffe-throated yellowhammer, and getting lost in the beauty of this 2nd movement. Some people wonder why Beethoven wrote only 9 symphonies. (After all, Haydn wrote 104!) Each and every one of Beethoven’s is so completely unique…so different from all that came before…so he’s reinventing the wheel every time. Musicologist Robert Greenberg said if HE were conducting this 6th symphony, he would put the bird song instruments at the front of the orchestra - I think that would be marvelous!
I love how art and artists connect all of us, even though we don't know each other. Mysskin's recommendation brought us here, and we may not understand why he did contextually, but we understand spiritually. I believe this is one of the most beautiful aspects of art and artists :)
I am going to be playing this with an orchestra I play in... I am awefully excited!!! I am surprised because I am an amateur musician and I thought that Beethoven did mostly more..."extreme" works ^^
I've always said the 6th was my least favourite of Beethoven's because it lacks (to the same extent) the drama and/or the fun of the others. But today I had a random need to listen to this movement anyway, and I'm glad I did. What it lacks in drama and/or fun, it makes up in beauty.
@@klop4228 It packs more punch because the work isn't otherwise so highly dramatic. I also like the lyrical Beethoven works that hold back the drama a bit more, his music can sing.
You might find this interesting if you're one of those who like to make your own mix of great adagios/andantes, where you first...take the third movement of Shostakovich's Fifith Symphony and then follow it with the movement with this one...Thank You!...
I'm listening to Adagio of Beethoven's IV at the SAME moment as I have playing this Andante piece. It somehow makes sense. To me, at least. But then, I'm fond of musical chaos.
I presume this is Bohm conducting. He takes this movement at the right speed. Like a leisurely flowing brook in a meadow. Most often it is taken too fast.
First Time to see Tamil People comments in Western Music Section .....Hats off to Mysskin Sir.......

This is guaranteed to lift any depression you may be feeling. It's absolutely beautiful..
Beethoven could be so epic and dramatic but also he could be so serene and beautiful.
Oh come on, he couldn't hear his own music.
Roger Propes Yes he could. He was NOT deaf his entire life. 🙄
@@Lordran__ even when he was deaf he could hear the music in his head
5:40 the duet between the oboe and the flute with strings and bassoon in the background....oh just divine....so pure
There will never come anything like symphony 6 for Beethoven

All in all I think the Sixth is probably my favorite Beethoven symphony.
I would say my fav is number 3 and 9, but the second movement of the 6 is incredible
Mine too.

The third movement in this symphony is one of the most "fun" things he ever did.
@@JFullerUCSB Sure, but other symphonies are made entirely of fun
The Storm is very dramatic in a good performance.
@@starry2006 but only one movement compared to his other 'dramatic' symphonies, and less dramatic than many of his other dramatic works.

I can't fathom how a deaf man wrote this. It's like finding out that Michelangelo was blind.

@misscellodragon Let us know how it went, it may just seem easier than it really is. I'm guessing it depends on what the conductor demands.

Ludwig van Beethoven - ( Tri )
Oh yessss, lots of birds! Someone called one of the birds a ‘giraffe-throated yellowhammer’! It’s a joke.
In some parts of the 2nd movement of this piece, you can hear birds chirping in a way.
