Im am drinking that magrove jacks kit right now, there was a sale on these nelson kits and I bought about 5 or 6(brain fade) of them and they all are alot darker than your ones (a dark red?) and its like a hoppy export/bitter and yes the dryness of the mouth I got right from my first sip 😛 I used 500g Light DME and 700g Dex, Cheers guys, great reviews and banter 🍻
My Mrs enjoys the Mangrove Jack's cider kits, the elderflower and lime seemed an unlikely combination but she enjoyed. Currently got the Rose cider fermenting, but I've banished it to the ferm fridge out in the shed as all ciders, without exception, absolutely stink the house out - I'm sure you've already discovered that!
For carbonation guidance, check out Brewgoats carbonation Calculator, I've been using it in my recent brews and found it to be very useful. I like trying single hop beers so that you get a good indication of what each hop brings to the party ! And the Nelson Sauvin obviously worked well in the first beer No Drama. Looking forward to your next review 👍
Great review guys, just finished supping a barrel of India pale lager and was looking forward to your opinion and totally agree its a cracking beer! Cheers chaps 🍻
Hey Dave, Just wondered when you have a beer reach final gravity and transfer to a corny keg to carb up, how long do you wait before drinking? As in aging say an ipa? Do you drink straight away or leave in the keg for a few weeks? Also do you dry hop at the end of fermentation or during high Krausen for bio transformation? + do you dry hop in fermenter or keg and at what temp? Sorry for all the questions, just up dated to corny kegs and still finding my feet. Love what you guys do 👍
Thanks lads, i'm having a problem with this heat trying to cool my beer, i split my last brew into bottles which obviously went into the fridge and is great but i have a corny keg as well and i just haven't got room for a kegerator ( i'm thinking of sweet talking my missus with the temptation of a new bigger fridge so i can use my old one - but kegerator will have to go in the corner of my living room!! so i am having doubts if i really want that ) at the moment i have resorted to using one of those freezer block things ( for keeping food cool & i've got about 6 in the freezer ) in a large pitcher then fill it with beer - works ok - desperate times and all that !!!! Look forward to the next one 🍻
I have been on the IPA this week in this roasting hot weather. I currently have a St Peter's India Pale Ale kit fermenting at the moment - I only made the kit on Wednesday afternoon and it has pretty much fermented out in just less than 3 days because it has been such hot weather! i can't really control the air temperature in my house when it is like this, but hopefully it won't have affected the brew with any 'off flavours' because it was brewed at between 28 and 30 degrees - I've heard brewing at a higher temperature than about 18 to 22 degrees can cause off flavours? Whilst the IPA kit is being brewed, I have been drinking the bottled commercial version of St Peter's IPA - like the kit version it is 5.5% ABV - it might sound like sacrelige but I like my IPA topped up with a just a bit of fizzy lemonade - chilled in the fridge like the IPA. 5.5 is a bit too high ABV for me on it's own - with an IPA at least - so the lemonade mellows down the hops a bit and sweetens the beer a bit which I personally like. Great review chaps.
