Recursion seems much better now. Getting back 3 models for 3 units in each hero phase is pretty strong. Gravesites now being essentially all terrain pieces gives us much more board control.
Also no more rolling dice to see if we resurrect a unit. We can do that now for 1 CP and it's in any movement phase.
Vampires probably heal less on average but could spike. If a VloZD kills a unit he heals 2D3 + another D3 if he fights in the enemy turn + D3 for vile transference. If he kills a unit in both turns and heals with the spell in both turns that's potentially 6D3 healing 😅
Radukar seems like a melee powerhouse. He has speed, out of sequence movement, a good self-defence buff, healing with The Hunger and still buffs our units with +1 to wound. Looks very good!
Lauka Vai deals D6 Mortals to any monster or unit with at least 6 health lol.
Blood Knights look nasty being able to charge through screens.
Vargheists look meh.
Skeletons we've only seen the spearhead version so they might have more abilities on their Warscroll.
All in all this looks promising for my undead horde!
Thanks for breaking it down rob. I gotta say I'm kinda glad they simplified some of the battle traits from soublight gravelords, like their gravesite markers ect. Actually really looking forward to painting a radukar now!

my main army, super happy with what i have seen in the context of the changes to rules and armies we have seen so far. Radukar's attack went up to damage 3 with Crit mortal and Lauka doesn't suffer from the monster 4+ 2+. Very keen to see how Manfred and Nef come out

I definitely knew the hunger was going to get nerfed. And that's okay. Im sure it wasnt fun playing against a vlozd healing 6 wounds all the time lol

Question about the command point section at 4:30: he mentions that starting 50 points down gets you a bonus CP. Where is that info from? That’s news to me and I’ve pretty caught up on articles

Although I want to look at the positive regarding the Soulblight Gravelords. I have looked at it in a gaming sense. The hunger has been nerfed again from wounds to max 6 now D3 per turn . Although everyone goes on about combinations ie 2D3 + D3 etc to achieve this will be difficult. The issue will be if you charge in with a unit that has taken wounds already ie blood knights say 3 now you would gain up to 6 wounds back which is not impossible on the charge therefore bringing the unit back to full strength prior to your opposition hitting back but now you have to wait until the end of the turn to get 1-3 wounds back, the unit could be destroyed before any chance of healing. I have read and compared both AOS 3 and 4. I believe that although certain aspects are ok that they have been nerfed pretty hard. Vile transference has gone from a two in six chance to wound to a one in six chance. Also before it was wounds not models in a unit. So now it is ineffective against monsters or small harder units. With making Radukar the beasts supernatural reflexes to a spell has made him less effective unless you take Luka Vai. I have played undead armies since the early 90's and to be honest I am a little disappointed with this refresh. It seems that the designer of games have little idea of how undead or vampire should stat up. Vampires are super human but in AOS they are no stronger or better than humans. My love for this army will continue even though I feel they may be fairly difficult to play, but all depends on the rest of the stats and special rules.🤔

Hey that just means papa nurgle has been a fan of your work.
Man as a nurgle and tzeentch player who most commonly plays against soul blight, there's no way our debuff application is going to be able to keep up with All this healing and recursion. For DOT obviously the strategy is more using it to prevent heels or recursion while you take something out one at a time, but for nurgle I have no idea what I'm going to do. My army was very focused on being tangy and grinding them being tanky and grinding enemies down with lots of disease using demon units. I'm a little scared at how I'm going to deal with this.

I assume Riders of Ruin works in the charge phase? Also can the Blood Knights declare a charge whilst in combat to charge through and enter combat with a different unit if so?
Really looking forward to the new Soulblight Gravelords but I'm a bit disappointed with Zombies and them loosing the ability to create more zombies on model kills. It's more about flavour than anything else but they did get nerfed this way... Sad :(

this wasn't a very hype focus - most of the good stuff was lesser versions of things that were already good in 3e. We lost bloodlines, which, yeah we already knew was coming since subfactions in general are gone, but that's a bigger blow to soulblight than others since our subfactions just did more. And we didn't see either of the big faction leader mortarchs. That said, overall it's mostly still good stuff, so I can't complain or say I'm disappointed at all. not underwhelmed, not overwhelmed. just whelmed I guess. Still hype for 4e.
Radukar the beast went from always had -1 to hit and wound and heal 6 hunger to spell to do it and just for the turn. Prob not leaving the shelf again
Vile Transference going from mortals on 5+ or even 4+ to 6 is extremely sad. If you target a unit of 20, it's a decent spell, but it actively gets worse as targets have less models in them and is practically useless against elite armies. The fact it's probably the only unlimited spell in the lore is salt in the wound. As someone who's going to be playing mostly against Sylvaneth, I can expect it to deal an average of... less than 1 damage. Best case scenario. But there's still the healing! ...except everything has more than 1 health and can't be targeted twice. Good thing it has a low, low casting value of..... 7. Sure, it *can* still heal me for a D3, but it's like the most inconsistent healing in the game. Imagine playing against gargants.
I'm pretty happy with everything else they changed, though.
I'm just glad they didn't revert Invocation to a spell. I'll take this version of Transference over that happening.
At least there's manifestations for anyone not throwing out Prison, Waste, or warscroll spells
True that. Between universal spells, a free manifestation lore and warscroll spells (which look awesome so far), we might be good. I'm just preparing to be disappointed by Belladamma Volga's warscroll. Will have to wait a month and see.
