Well, it's unorthodox, that's true. But I actually think it gave the singer's voice some vulnerability that I haven't heard in this song before. I like it. Good choice, as far as I'm concerned!
Hell, its been 6 years but I honestly forgot this was up here. I directed. One thing you cant see is this was in our studio space. Audience is never more than 20 feet away, most closer. Hence the three tiered set. Have us a place to put the orchestra and create levels and depth while being visually interesting. Some dynamic choices were made for structure and blend. However, this was about vulnerability... softens the character a touch.
