Moving Violations was a great movie! Funny as heck, Lots of Police Academy style humor and jokes, and one thing missing from most Police Academy movies, characters all with subplots, which is WHY there is no character development in Police Academy movies. They are enjoyable for what they feel like - Comedy tv shows overly stretched out too long. Think about it. If you took those later movies and made them into shorter 1 hour TV shows, they'd survive as the 13 episode seasons of TV shows we get today.

Moving Violations is a fun movie for sure! You're right about the sitcom thing, there was a sitcom vibe from the very start - it just feels like even in a sitcom you'd expect to get to know the characters and their motivations, their lives, more than Police Academy managed!

@@CultureSlice In fact, Moving Violations could easy take place in the same universe as the Police Academy films.

They’re classics aren’t they, even the ones which aren’t very good!

One of the all time classic Simpsons lines - absolutely savaged Police Academy! 😂

I don’t think I hated any of these sequels. They weren’t great, but they’re not unwatchable.
To your point about part six though, when Proctor and Harris commandeer the bus, then Proctor stops to pick up passengers, and then Harris says his classic line, “Let’s go, let’s go! Move it, move it!”
I thought was one of the funniest scenes in the movie.

    • @CultureSlice
      @CultureSlice  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yeah that's a great moment! Harris is always good value no matter what, and him and Proctor together are gold. Totally understand what you're saying about the sequels, I didn't regret watching any of them again - but it just feels like they could have been so much more. With characters like Harris and Lassard and such good actors behind them they just needed slightly better material!

@@CultureSlice absolutely! I’m glad Mission to Moscow didn’t get a theatrical release. Because I would’ve gone to see it out of curiosity, and been very disappointed.
I was still disappointed when I saw it on the Movie channel about a year or so later, but at least that was free 😄

I'm surprised George Gaynes lasted through the entire series. By the second film he was already starring in Punky Brewster as Henry, you'd think he couldnt film a weekly sitcom and a movie almost every year.

He definitely had an amazing work ethic, and a really fascinating life. He served in World War II and moved to America to take a role on Broadway not long after. I guess he decided to make the most of his situation and take whatever opportunities he could.

I give this a B+, but a few too many inserts of b-roll/unrelated clips for supposed humor. Your content is strong enough on its own. You don't need inserts of cartoons to tell us to laugh.

I remember a kid seeing 5 on sky movies when it first launched and I remember enjoying it. Then I saw 3 and 4 which I thought were better. I didn't see 1 and 2 till much later and aside from seeing Callahans tits I didn't really like.

After the increasingly painful unfunny Parts 3 to 5, I quite liked Part 6 when I eventually watched it on DVD. Definitely not the worst of the sequels.

@@CultureSlice That's right, because Batman vs. The Joker, AND the Ghostbusters vs. Vigo the Carpathian were the main events of that year, while Lassard and his pals vs. the Wilson Heights Gang was stuck at the bottom of the undercard.

@@CultureSlice Part 6 was kinda the Police Academy franchise on life support.
On a side note, 1989 was a big year for franchise movies, as that year also saw the release of the following sequels, such as:
      Ghostbusters 2
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
      Lethal Weapon 2
Back to the Future Part 2
      The Karate Kid Part 3
Licence to Kill (the 16th James Bond film)
      The Fly 2
A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child
Friday the 13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan
      American Ninja 3: Blood Hunt
Speed Zone (which is definitely Cannonball Run 3)
      Fletch Lives
Star Trek 5: The Final Frontier
Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers
Silent Night Deadly Night 3: Better Watch Out!
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (the third entry in the National Lampoon Vacation series)
So needless to say, audiences probably had Sequelitis that year.
But in 1989, no movie could beat Tim Burton's Batman, which was just gobbling up the box office.
