Thanks guys, for a really fun show. Recently found out about the recent boxed sets with the remixes etc. and now those are on my ‘grail’ list, especially my favorite three - Benefit, Thick As A Brick and Passion Play. Those were the first purchases for my collection and I was fortunate to see the band on the tours for each of the last two of those three. Here’s hoping for the Benefit box issue so at least one could be bought when issued. Thanks again to you both - your love of the band and their music made for a great show.
We had the pleasure of Martin Barre's current band playing twice at the 400 seat Strand Theater in little Hudson Falls, NY. The 1st time in September 2018 was mind-blowing and the band loved the theater so much they came back in April 2019 to rehearse for a week and then open their 50 Years Of Jethro Tull US tour here. Clive was on drums for that along with band drummer Darby Todd. Fantastic 2 long sets spanning the band's career. Great meet n greet after, they're so nice with the fans. Plans to return this year were scrapped for now.

This was great guys! I have a Japanese CD replica of 'Thick As A Brick' down to the last detail of the newspaper format. It's amazing! Being a big Tull fan I was fortunate to meet Ian Anderson a few times and on three different occasions he signed my original vinyl newspaper copy of 'Thick As A Brick', the '20 Years of Jethro Tull' box set and 'A Passion Play'. The Passion Play' was amusing as I attended a small intimate gathering of fans in London, England where Ian introduced a screening of a documentary on the band made by a Polish filmaker. Afterwards, we were able to ask Ian many questions about music, the band, songwriting etc. When it came to 'A Passion Play' Ian was not overly favourable on the record and I eventually gave him a copy to sign, which made him smile and I suggested that perhaps, in time, he would be a little kinder to the album. A classy guy.

I mean , seriously, I know the R&R HOF is a joke, but jiminy frickin christmas, how stupid can the election committee be to NOT have Jethro Tull inducted? I am disgusted by the stupidity of the human race.
Great show guys! Jethro Tull is the best live band I've ever seen. First saw them in 1970 on the Benefit tour, then in 1971 for the Aqualung tour. Saw Thick As A Brick, then Passion Play twice, and many times since. I hope the deluxe edition o' Benefit does get released.
I had been meaning to upgrade/expand my Jethro Tull collection for years, then Pardo springs these Steve Wilson 40th Anniversary editions on me a few months back. They looked killer, so I went and bought three right away. When they arrived I was blown away. They are so friggin' cool. Excellently done, excellently mixed, tons of rare stuff, live stuff, etc. I don't know why more bands haven't adopted this book-style presentation. I love it. Needless to say I have now bought ten of the twelve, still needing Thick As a Brick and Songs From the Wood. Those are still quite pricey, as are some of the others, but I've scored some really good deals considering. Buyer's warning, as I'm sure they'll mention in the video, Benefit, while a Steven Wilson remix, is not in the book-style format. And guess what? I actually bought that one twice. I got a little tipsy one night and forgot I bought it and then purchased it again a few days later. For $25 more than I bought the first one! Demon alcohol.
Yes, the book-style presentation of the Tull remixes done by WIlson is rather unique. I can only think of a Marillion box set of Misplaced Childhood (that also included remixing done by Steven Wilson) and box set of prog rock band Yes from 2008 being in a very similar format. But the latter one is a career-spanning compilation, and not album-based like the tull-series.
nice thing about being old I did get to see shows like Tull when they only had a hand full of albums and back then we wanted to hear the new music in concert
My first Tull was a double.. MU and Mu 2 on vinyl if I remember it was a French press. Loved it with a passion (hehe) just remembered it was stickered as deux disques.
Thanks for all of this guys. Tull's legacy cannot be denied. I am a huge Tull appreciator; have all the box sets, in fact I have multiples (3-4 copies) of all of them...just in case I want to sell a couple in the future! TAAB is the really scarce one...the 5.1 of TAAB has to heard to be believed.....go on, spend that $500 on it, if it comes up on eBay. I understand that the 50th Anniversary Benefit book box (like the others) will be coming out...so be prepared. The one track from the vaults that really is an absolute ear worm and classic is "Tomorrow Was Today" from the War Child box......how that track wasn't released originally back in 1974 I have no idea....it took 40 years i.e. 2014 to actually be released. As Pete said; Anderson sat on so many of these, yet the majority of the ones that didn't quite "cut the mustard" to be included on Tull albums are brilliant. Jack you pronounce Martin's second name as "Bear".....100% sure it's pronounced "Bar". Anyway, that aside, it was a pleasure to see and listen to this.
You are too cool for school. I'm jelly. I might have to pick up the single disc versions of the Steven Wilson remixes. My old JT cds don't sound too great. Still got the vinyls though and they are clean with that classic sound.
Everything that Steven Wilson did I've got. Even a bunch of the other bands he did I got all that stuff too. The Steven Wilson remixes of ANYBODYbring what we know for our whole lives to an entirely new level. He is the best person I've ever heard to remaster old albums(now if he would only do the Argent and the Robin trower stuff)
I disagree completely, definitely prefer the original sound mixes as they were meant to be heard at the time. I know it's hip to mess with history these days, doesn't work for me though.
The 40th anniversary box sets look great. I only have a few of them because I was a little late to the dance on these. Now they are out of print and very expensive. Hopefully they will do 50th anniversary versions for the people who couldn't get them.
I have read recently that company and Anderson they were and still are in talks and they are trying to discover archival stuff, live gigs etc to finally reissue "Benefit" on the book style at the end of 2020 or 2021... Fingers crossed boys and girls.
@@cbr9914 well friend, that is a true fact. Its from Benefit era. But who really knows how companies think and work. Stand up with Carnegie was reissued in 2010. Benefit deluxe version was reissued in 2013. But they said, that they really want to remake Benefit on book style, but first the need to find new and good archival stuff to make it worth, because of the previous releases. They dont want to resale the old archive stuff as new, otherwise they won't do it...
Stitch in Time was actually on the 20 Years boxed set, which I got my parents to buy me when it came out while I was in middle school! I'm really, really hoping for an A remaster/remix but I don't know if we'll get it.
Still crossing my fingers that we'll get a 50th Anniversary Edition of Benefit in book format, which would be this year too. Live at Carnegie Hall oughta included too which would be a bonus even if it were to be remixed by either Wilson or Jakko Jakszyk. I've also begun compiling remixed versions that would have ended up on the Living in the Past album, however, some of those tracks like the last 3 songs from the Life Is a Long Song EP and The Witch's Promise for example - their multi-track tapes are currently unavailable therefore cannot currently be remixed. Also, the live tracks from Carnegie Hall are the only tracks needed to complete my compilation. And I decided to leave Wond'ring Aloud, Again as is. :D And while I do own the Thick as a Brick book, I do hope we'll get a reissue as the unmastered version of the stereo remix which is currently available as a digital download only, needs to be included in a physical format.
PETE& JACK said basically it all/ but I’ll agree with PETE/ to me the original CHATEAU D”is aster tapes which eventually became PASSION PLAY / smokes the latter. Obviously/ just my opinion! Informative show
I have the 20 Years of Jethro Tull and 25th Anniversary cigar box set. I don't have any of the Steven Wilson remixed box sets because I think they are little too expensive to buy an album that I already have even though you get bonus content in the new ones.
Enjoyed this post. I only bought two of these anniversary sets. This Was because it was only $20 on Amazon for a while and I also bought Passion Play. Love that album. I have yet to open Passion Play! I know! What?! Now I'm tempted to sell it on eBay but just can't bring myself to do it. Hoping to find a few more sets used as I hit the stores for reasonable prices. Take care guys and thanks for the overview of the series.
The Aqualung, Minstrel in the Gallery, and Songs from the Wood box sets must be back in print because they are selling on Amazon brand new for around 40 bucks each. I didn't start collecting any of the anniversary box sets until later on when a lot of them were already out of print, so I made sure to scoop those three up now that the prices are down. Kind of interesting the prices are down all of a sudden.
Hi guys from Greece, I've got 7 of these. My favourites are Heavy horses, Storm watch. Benefit is one my fave Jethro albums ever. I would love for them to release Crest of a knave. Can't wait to watch them live in Athens in September.
I love Jethro Tull, and i love the passion on this show. I only have the «Thick as a Brick» boxset, but i sure have most of their other stuff on CD or LP.
Seriously, one of the songs from Chateau D'Isaster, "Look at the Animals," just came up on my shuffle when you guys were talking about it. And I've got 24,000 songs on my computer so that's pretty amazing.
I realise now how lucky I was to pick up Songs From The Wood (The Country Set) when it was released a few years ago...I actually paid less than £25 for it new !!...The concert DVD is outstanding and a band at the absolute peak of their game...
The Live DVD Box set was not mentioned. It's titled Jethro Full Around the World Live including 6 video concerts. Released by Eagle vision in 2013 runs over 6 hours and is B+ resolution quality. No Steven Wilson involvement but any collection must include it 🤗
@@DropAnchor1978 Word was that Wilson has opted not to continue. He may have been persuaded, or it could be someone else. Let's hope they continue with all the albums.
The first time I saw Jethro Tull was in 1977 at Dane County Coliseum in Madison, WI during their Songs from the Wood tour. Their setlist was very similar to what Jack was saying about the Songs from the Wood box set DVD where they played that Landover, MD concert.
Jethro Tull's Benefit boxset from 2013 is being reissued and comes out the 5th. November. This probably means that several of them will be reissued so the scalpers can say goodbye!
The ones I have so far are, Benefit, the first Aqualung box, before the book version, A Passion Play, Too Old To RnR, and Heavy Horses. I missed out on quite a few and they’re really expensive.
I own the, Heavy Horses, Stormwatch, and Too Old to rock and roll, book/cd/dvd sets. Absolutely love them. Isn’t my local hmv they have the, This Was book/ cd/ dvd set at £48.99p i won’t pay that sort of money for that set, as it was £28.99 in there 6 months earlier.

I feel for you Jack. My wife always busts my balls if I am buying something too. Plus after watching all of these shows pete is putting me in the poor house buying all this great music.
@@allornadaaccordingtojack7601 Hello Jack, I just bought the Ballad Of Jethro Tull book that you had shown on the video. I bought the second printing. The day after I ordered it I got an email with the downloads of the contents of the 45 record that came with the deluxe signed version. You didn't mention that so maybe your daughter got that email when she ordered your copy. Just a heads up.
The companion 20th anniversary VHS (sold separately) to the box set is amazing. It seems to be very rare. Sad to say I never saw a DVD release in my searches. Nice mix of Ian on the farm, in the studio and obviously interviewed. IMO, Tull documentary releases after this never quite measured up. Don't know if Pete mentions it ...still listening right now...
iv seen TULL 4 times and IAN ANDERSON twice and THE MARTIN BARRE BAND twice(fantastic)...i have everything from them albums..cds..singles....great stuff!..first time i saw them was in 1970,,,,as recently as 2 years ago...IAN and MARTIN..
All power to the Sea and the Tull - beautiful.Really hope they do a 'Living in the Past' box set. Those singles and non-album tracks are superb. I'm sure there's plenty of other studio and live material available plus we've gotta have the reprint of the original booklet and what about a faux leather album cover with gold lettering! Far too much Tull total goodness to miss out. Other box sets I'm looking forward to: A, Broadsword and JethroTull.com ( very underrated IMHO).
Agreed about Living In the Past. I have the Mobile Fidelity addition but it pales in comparison to what Steven Wilson has accomplished. I personally would like the track listing to reflect the US release and keep "Wondering Again" uncoupled from the demo.
Got all of them, want Benefit in book edition, soon hopefully. Not got Aqualung though because I've got it in the edition including the vinyl, can't bring myself to change it as Aqualung was the first record I brought with my own money age 11, haven't got the original vinyl anymore but the box set was a wonderful replacement with the surround sound and full size cover. Shame the original lyric insert wasn't done but you can't have everything. These box sets are the way to do it. The best in my collection almost, only bettered by King Crimson and the very large Steve Hillage box, shame that hasn't got 5.1 like the others.
Great video guys, very informative, although when I saw the video on TH-cam I thought you guys were also going to cover box sets like the 20th and 25th anniversary boxes. I'm ashamed to admit I was slow to get some of these as they were released, and they are out of my price range 😔 Stormwatch was my first studio album from Tull (My first album was MU) so you know I was all over the force 10 edition when it was released! I must have checked 1000 times on Amazon waiting for it show up for pre-order. Again, great video guys! 😀
I didn't buy the "Thick as a Brick" set because I heard there were mastering or pressing problems. Now I want that set re-released. Have all the other Steve Wilson sets.
I just discovered the Wilson Tull boxes today and was thinking about whether to spring for one given the prices. You're effing killing me. But I can't really blame you...
A question for you guys. Do the Aqualung book lyrics include the full Morgan version of Wond'ring Aloud, Again? The ones on the Internet look somewhat botched to me at points...especially that third verse. Before starting arguments, though, I'd like to know if there's an official version. TIA
Luckily I managed to get all the Tull 40th book/box sets at retail as they were released, with the notable exception of TAAB, which was the first one and is just too obscenely priced for my wallet !! All are exceptional value for money and appear to be great investments. I've heard varying reports that they may end the series with Stormwatch, and other reports that they may continue up through Broadsword, although I am almost certain Steven Wilson's involvement ended with Stormwatch. Guess we shall see... I can't see Ian passing up a possible revenue stream, but those 80's Tull albums were hit and miss.
I have to admit that the only Tull album in my collection that was remixed by Steven Wilson is Aqualung, and he did a damn fine job, I must say. I don't know if this was the case with all pressings, but the remaster (from the '90s with an interview with Anderson at the end) that was out prior to it was an absolute atrocity. Couldn't hear shit without turning the volume all the way to the top. I guess you can call me a purist, in general. For example, I can't stand the 2007 Genesis remixes (I'm a detail guy, and details and nuances that I love about Genesis' songs got completely buried), so I sold them eventually. I own the Steven Wilson ELP 2CD+DVD-audio remix packages. I prefer the original mixes on all of those, but at least in those packages, you have the option to choose which mix you prefer to listen to. By the way, my favorite Tull album is Minstrel In The Gallery.
DeTeaOneNineFive the Wilson remixes offer very subtle differences. His goal was to NOT change the sound in a drastic manner as so many other remixes have done. They’re all very true to the original mix - but the differences are there. So they’re all worth your while. These Tull anniversary editions are worth every penny.
Universal tried that over 10 years ago with the Pure Audio-line of Blu-rays. Faded out in oblivion because people did not understand high resolution audio and 5.1 mixes or didn't care about it, and the majority of people stream music these days. A blu-ray is approx 50GB, and your wish to have all albums on one disc is not possible. What you can do is to stream high resolution 5.1 mixes from Apple Music.
@@rabarebra Actually streaming sucks, any audio or video file knows this. Momentary lapse of reason is being released in Oct 29 in bluray audio/CD and vinyl. Also "Let it Be" by the Beatles. The reason Senjutsu by Iron Maiden is the #1 selling release in American music history, physical media! sales! When you compress music is sounds terrible. DVD-AUDIO and Bluray-audio are the finest sounding music formats in recorded music history. Uncompressed audio at bit rate of 24bit 96khz.
I have a box set of Tull that was the 30th anniversary of Aqualung.Inside the box is a cd of Aqualung,a LP picture disc and a hard cover book of all the lyrics of every song up to that point.I've never seen it before or since but it's very cool.I've seen Tull at least 30 times starting in 73.And why aren't they in the HOF I mean Roxy Music,Joan Jett are in come on give me a break
The Stooges released Funhouse box set for $500, 1970 copies. Sold out within a few days.... I wonder how much that will be worth only after a few weeks!??
Andrew Lincoln, Rick from Walking Dead is married to Ian Anderson's daughter. He appeared on Norman Reedus' show. Beautiful stately home in the English countryside.
There's currently no Wilson remix of Carnegie Hall. Reason it wasn't included on the Benefit "Remix" was mainly due to the fact that they hadn't considered live performances in the earlier sets. There needs to be a 50th Anniversary of Benefit which would also have to include Carnegie Hall too. 😊
@@cbr9914 Nah, it isn't mate. Wilson's first Tull remix project was Aqualung in 2011. That Stand Up Collector's Edition with the Carnegie Hall DVD was released in 2009 - the same year Wilson worked on his first ever remix project being King Crimson's In the Court of the Crimson King.

No disrespect but I'd rather see you on your own. You do not need another person on the video, in my opinion. You have the knowledge and are very fluent. Much more fun to watch...
Its not just Ian who has all this stuff up his sleeve . . they mostly all do but are to lazy to stingy to care about their fans where Ian shows a lot of love for us fans. One of the most disappointments most lazy & selfish ever carried out by remastering was by Jimmy Page . . what a over blown over priced waste of time waiting to be so let down .
Their original 20th anniversary boxed set was just amazing for all the new material that was on it. Set the standard for boxed sets.

50th Anniversary Benefit? I can't wait.
I have all of the Wilson Tull boxes. I would recommend all of them too.
@@TheTVisions remixes are fine as long as the originals are still available
The 40th anniversary box sets look great. I only have a few of them because I was a little late to the dance on these. Now they are out of print and very expensive. Hopefully they will do 50th anniversary versions for the people who couldn't get them.
I have read recently that company and Anderson they were and still are in talks and they are trying to discover archival stuff, live gigs etc to finally reissue "Benefit" on the book style at the end of 2020 or 2021... Fingers crossed boys and girls.
i don't get why the carnegie hall show on the stand up remaster isn't paired with benefit....it's that tour
Great show! I have all the multi-disc book editions, and they are awesome! Hope to see the release of a book edition of Benefit soon!
And while I do own the Thick as a Brick book, I do hope we'll get a reissue as the unmastered version of the stereo remix which is currently available as a digital download only, needs to be included in a physical format.
It's coming out early this November.
@@rabarebra yup. Already ordered!

PETE& JACK said basically it all/ but I’ll agree with PETE/ to me the original CHATEAU D”is aster tapes which eventually became PASSION PLAY / smokes the latter. Obviously/ just my opinion! Informative show
Not just your opinion - I agree wholeheartedly!
After hearing the "Chateau Disaster" recordings, I've always regarded APP & War Child as sister albums.
Great stuff! For all you Tull fans, I think you will enjoy a podcast called Talk Tull to Me. One of my favorites.
Surfing some sites...yes, these cool ass Box Sets are outrageous. Damn, shoulda jumped on these early.
I love Jethro Tull, and i love the passion on this show. I only have the «Thick as a Brick» boxset, but i sure have most of their other stuff on CD or LP.
The TAAB one is like the Holy Grail. Last time I checked neither ebay nor amazon had it and the cheapest one on discogs was ~$350.
The Donald oh my God! That’s crazy. But i won’t sell it.
@@OMW66 I don't blame you. You saw neither Jack nor Pete had it...
Seriously, one of the songs from Chateau D'Isaster, "Look at the Animals," just came up on my shuffle when you guys were talking about it. And I've got 24,000 songs on my computer so that's pretty amazing.
Sounds like Big Brother is flexing his muscles again. They're watching us . .

I realise now how lucky I was to pick up Songs From The Wood (The Country Set) when it was released a few years ago...I actually paid less than £25 for it new !!...The concert DVD is outstanding and a band at the absolute peak of their game...
The Heavy Horses and Stormwatch book sets are still available at amazon.com for not obscene prices. If you snooze you lose.
The Live DVD Box set was not mentioned. It's titled Jethro Full Around the World Live including 6 video concerts. Released by Eagle vision in 2013 runs over 6 hours and is B+ resolution quality. No Steven Wilson involvement but any collection must include it 🤗
I have it and was thinking of talking about it, but we ran out of time. Sorry.
It's been confirmed that A and Benefit will be released in book format.
Good news! Any idea who will be doing A? I hope Broadswoard gets the deluxe treatment.
@@DropAnchor1978 Word was that Wilson has opted not to continue. He may have been persuaded, or it could be someone else. Let's hope they continue with all the albums.
Excellent news. Can you please give us a link of the confirmation? Is it by the Ian Anderson himself?
@@ledzep9501 It was confirmed by Dave Rees, so would have come from 'the top'. He mentioned it on the JT board on Facebook.

My man jack!
I hope they reissue some of them.. I got on too late.. I have stormwatch and heavy horses but yeah the other ones are hard to get..

@@fredlambert8779 thanks for that. I don't think that it came with my book, but my daughter did say she would check. Thanks for the heads up!!
Luckily for some of us, we do not have wife's that behave like control freaks, and watch what we spend our own money on.
Has anyone heard if Steven Wilson has had his arm twisted to consider doing "A" and "Broadsword and the Beast"?
The companion 20th anniversary VHS (sold separately) to the box set is amazing. It seems to be very rare. Sad to say I never saw a DVD release in my searches. Nice mix of Ian on the farm, in the studio and obviously interviewed. IMO, Tull documentary releases after this never quite measured up. Don't know if Pete mentions it ...still listening right now...
Where’d you get that awesome Stormwatch shirt?
iv seen TULL 4 times and IAN ANDERSON twice and THE MARTIN BARRE BAND twice(fantastic)...i have everything from them albums..cds..singles....great stuff!..first time i saw them was in 1970,,,,as recently as 2 years ago...IAN and MARTIN..
Jethro Tull was with Song from the woods, my first Concert, in the biggest venue in Frankfurt Die Festhalle but I lost Track in the mid 80"
Hey Pete, just picked up an Ian Anderson solo album. Divinities. Are you a fan of his solo albums?
Great video guys, very informative, although when I saw the video on TH-cam I thought you guys were also going to cover box sets like the 20th and 25th anniversary boxes.
I'm ashamed to admit I was slow to get some of these as they were released, and they are out of my price range 😔
Stormwatch was my first studio album from Tull (My first album was MU) so you know I was all over the force 10 edition when it was released! I must have checked 1000 times on Amazon waiting for it show up for pre-order. Again, great video guys! 😀
I didn't buy the "Thick as a Brick" set because I heard there were mastering or pressing problems. Now I want that set re-released. Have all the other Steve Wilson sets.
I hope you now have the TAAB book edition!
I do!
I just discovered the Wilson Tull boxes today and was thinking about whether to spring for one given the prices. You're effing killing me. But I can't really blame you...
Let yourself go....give in to the temptation. They are well worth it!
A question for you guys. Do the Aqualung book lyrics include the full Morgan version of Wond'ring Aloud, Again? The ones on the Internet look somewhat botched to me at points...especially that third verse. Before starting arguments, though, I'd like to know if there's an official version. TIA
Excellent content great artist. I wonder if you could do a top ten songs from chris whitley. So under rated.
Do not many people listen the the 5.1 surround mixes? That's best reason for getting these wonderful box sets
The surround mixes are fantastic.
None of my friends listens to 5.1 surround mixes. They connect that with movie watching.
nice!
The car in the Songs From the Wood photo is an MG TF - not a Bentley!
The only time I saw Jethro Tull was on the ‘Under Wraps ‘ tour. Could I have picked a worse moment?
That was my first Tull concert also Patrick, and I agree with you. Definitely not typical Jethro Tull material.
They should release the whole catalogue in Bluray audio. Every album. One disc. You can listen to it, in any format. 5.1 or 2.0 stereo.
Nice stuff...but to me,the first 5 lp's will always be the best !!!
Ian didn't write Urban Apocalypse, it's a David/Dee Palmer song. That's probably why he didn't release it! It's on Dee's solo album.
Ian Anderson should form a funk-folk duo called Codpiece with Larry Blackmon from Cameo.
Andrew Lincoln, Rick from Walking Dead is married to Ian Anderson's daughter. He appeared on Norman Reedus' show. Beautiful stately home in the English countryside.
Still waiting for an Under Wraps / Wilson Box Set. 😬
So many anniversary editions, so little money! lol
the original carnegie hall release was mixed way better than the wilson mix....also, why wasn't that show on the benefit remaster??
There's currently no Wilson remix of Carnegie Hall. Reason it wasn't included on the Benefit "Remix" was mainly due to the fact that they hadn't considered live performances in the earlier sets. There needs to be a 50th Anniversary of Benefit which would also have to include Carnegie Hall too. 😊
@@FVD i'm pretty sure the carnegie hall show on the stand up 40th remaster is a steve wilson mix (unless it was jacko)
