Did you catch the live stream by The Smile? Only Thom and Jonny could create an entire record that avoids anything in 2 or 4 time. I could hardly find the downbeats, and I'm a musician, and a sound engineer for a living. The whole set was basically post-facto metric ambiguity, I have listened 3 times and still haven't habituated enough to judge most of it against my tastes.

In my humble opinion, There Will Be Blood is the greatest film score in the history of cinema. It is surely the most beautiful and original for me and every time leaves me staggered and awestruck when I experience it. It’s certainly one of the most significant pieces of music in this century. I feel like it will be held in the same esteem as the most important scores of the 20th century. All I can say is that Jonny Greenwood is single-handedly saving the stagnant world of film music and The Oscars don't deserve Jonny Greenwood...

My own musical life began the same way, the love of recorders from age 4 that stayed with me all through school when others moved to more 'regular' wind instruments. Then also Viola in the orchestra, moved to percussion, a little piano. Bass guitar as I joined bands. Sadly, not the talent, dedication or luck! Long live Jonny Greenwood.

Jonny's music is the Mona lisa of music
The openning chords to "Sandy's necklace" is a good example.
It's very interesting how he manages to find the gray sweet spot.... all it takes is a slight shift in pitch.
His music is all emotions explored in one go without being too over/under-whelming.
His ominous yet magnetic note choices in "Blow out" "climbing up the walls" and "how to disappear completely" are good examples of his 'moments' in RH.

    Hi Ashton,
Thanks for this video. Yes, he is a very talented film composer.
I'm looking forward to the release of his Spencer Soundtrack, being a big fan of Baroque music.
    Cheers.

Fantastic! I think Phantom Thread is one of the most beautiful scores of all time. I didn't know he did Spencer, now I know what I am doing this evening! Thanks so much for putting this together. Bravo.

Thank you. I missed "The Bodysong" reference in the video, as it was at the beginning of his music score career and was very significant.

Enjoyable, Ashton thank you. When I saw TWBB for the first time it reminded me of his Bodysong soundtrack. I really enjoy his solo composing.
