the lore is essentially that Vessel (the singer) was visited in a dream by a deity named Sleep, who told him that he will bring him fame and glory if he writes songs in worship of / dedicated to Sleep; the rest of the band, all anonymous, are II (drums), III (bass) and IV (guitar); most, if not all of the recording is done by Vessel and II, the others are touring members
it's my view that all of the songs are in some way about Vessel's relationship to Sleep, or addressed to Sleep in some way or another
in the real world it seems that "Sleep" is a symbol / metaphor for some experience(s) in Vessel's real life: toxic relationships, abuses of some kind, religious trauma maybe, or all of the above; nobody knows and that's Vessel's business, but we bring our own experiences to the songs (I think that's basically what "worship" means for Vessel)
"worship" is something that Sleep Token started on their social media years ago, and now all the fans say "worship" everywhere; it's just a bit of fun, a code word the fans use to signal to each other I guess! (and convert new fans)

Yes, rituals !! Because their music is catarthic. It's a safe place to submerge together as Vessel said himself. And to express our emotions and vulnerable side.

@@galactic_ape1929 Well, Vessel has said he makes the music while doing everything he can to minimise his own vulnerability. I see the lore as one part of how he does that: writing about his very personal experiences in a way that can be interpreted as an impersonal story about a problematic deity. If that's what makes him feel comfortable, I'm all for it.

I like the background with the smaller video window. I'm about to start a channel and this is a great implementation of the green screen. I might use this instead of just putting myself in a smaller window. Definitely a more creative way. Also great reaction, and don't stop here with the sleep token rabbit hole
Thanks, the only thing i can say is to do what you feel vibes with you. If it’s music videos the smaller screen seems to help prevent them from being blocked

Yeah this is one of my favs. When they get into R&B and hip hop it actually works unlike other bands that try it and it comes off corny ya know? It’s an awesome fusion of genres.

@@RichInReaction Vessel is not just gifted with that LOVELY VOICE, mmmm, but he's also a musical genius. He plays all instruments except for drums when recording, and II does the drums. The rituals have two members on bass (III) and guitar (IV) that plays what Vessel wrote and recorded. The backup vocals and layers on the record is all Vessel. He doesn't use auto tune for vocal corrections because he doesn't need it. But it's an artistic choice. For live shows tho there is a trio of women that sing the backup vocals.

Sleep Token is a masked, anonymous collective of musicians who worship an ancient deity called "Sleep". The band formed in 2016 and legend has it that the deity visited Vessel, the band's lead singer, and promised him "glory and magnificence" in exchange for his loyalty. The band's songs are said to be dedicated to the deity, though some fans interpret their lyrics as a violent power struggle between the two.
Sleep Token's visuals also provide clues about their worship. The band members wear masks and cloaks, and paint themselves black, giving their appearance a metal look. In 2017, their label Basick Records described them as "the mortal representatives of the ancient deity known only as 'Sleep'".

For me Sleep is a metaphor about the Dark side of our life and unconscious.
The lyrics are about codependence, self harm, love, depression, self acceptance and overcoming it.
This band helped me to put in words a lot of pain I've been hiding for years. And then worked it throught therapy.
That's deep. So when I say "worship" I mean the messages hidden in this band really touched my soul .

Sleep Token having obvious deep roots in progressive metal/music are probably not going to resonate with the listener who has been conditioned to the catchy three minute pop song. ST takes a little dedication to completely understand the qualities of the dynamics, structure, and poetic weight being offered. The payoff is huge for those who invest because the talent is absolutely astronomical. Sleep Token is pure art! Worship!
I hate autotuned vocals too. As a matter of fact, almost everything they do is little bits of this and that that I hate about music, but the way they deliver their composition as a whole makes sense. I would go listen to their previous albums and go like "naaahhh" only to find myself repeating those songs later. Really something magical about their compositions. Worship.

I love Chokehold too. The syncopated Rythm of this song is very interesting.
And the vocals are very original too, was the first song I've listened when I hit play to TMBTE and thought " uff this voice, Ive never heard something similar"

@@RichInReaction your welcome. Google the lore on Wikipedia and you will see the many phases of the band as they've evolved from their origins to Take Me Back To Eden. Vessel has had many mask changes into the one now, and the rest of the members finally got their own personalized masks last December. The rabbit hole takes you through this journey of an abusive/toxic relationship, self harm, suicidal ideation and finally acceptance by the end of the TMBTE album. The first song on their first album essentially starts the story and the last song on this latest album is the culmination of the story and has several call backs to earlier songs that people miss if they don't do the journey in order. I hope you do! You will not be disappointed!
