Vin Dow I’ve gotten the hang of it but decided that it’s too much pressure on me. Lol When waiting at the light I’d be nervous as heck worrying if the car would stall on me and every car behind me beeping at me (it had happen quite a few times). I overthink the steps every time I’d get behind the wheel. But at least I tried and if I absolutely had to, I would be able to get myself home! 😉
@@benita2066 facts one guy beeped at me cause I stalled 3 times at an intersection he and drove around me zoomin but after I got the car goin he was goin 15 over tryna get away from me thinking I was chasing him 😭
I'm 32 and never drove a stick. I bought a 19' Civic Si and have been teaching myself to drive it thus far, and this video has made me feel much more confident.
How good are you now or at what point have you become a better driver since you learn what you saw in this video? I too wanted to learn how to drive a stick which is why I am asking.
I just got a 2012 and im loving it; not putting on road until spring to avoid getting snow tires this year but i drive around my neighborhood and it feels like a sportscar but at the same time feels reliable
Thank you sooo much!!!! I am teaching my girl how to drive my manual car for road trips and camping but I can’t afford her breaking my clutch while learning. This makes it so much easier so I can be less stressed and give her a chance to drive without yelling “Your burning my clutch!” And she doesn’t even know wha I’m saying.
A tip I learned is that if you don’t want to burn the clutch , lightly tap the gas as you are slowly letting go this will keep you at lower rpms, and once the car is moving just step on the gas normally ( over time you will have to learn how to just keep a steady foot on the gas with practice)
Good tips! Although it works up until the point they let out of the clutch too fast without any gas and stall immediately, haha. Love the vids as always man.
Doing clutch without gas is good for someone brand new to manual but its a bad habit to stick with because unless you've got something really powerful they're gonna be pulling away from every stop like grandma going to church. You want a little bit of gas on the bite point to get you moving faster and the clutch is designed to take that. As long as they don't rev it out to 3 or 4k on the bite point it should be fine.
I always put it in first and slowly let off the clutch to feel it's choking point. Every car has its own personalities 😉 Once you feel for that "choking point," just give it a lil gas and you're on your way
I just got a 5 speed manual and I’m going to try this out again tomorrow so I can understand what’s going on because it was a fucking nightmare today, I stalled the car like 3 times getting it to roll with gas but I’m definitely going to try this out tomorrow thanks so much 💪🏻
I’ve tried this method especially going from 1st to 2nd and let me say it’s by far the worse thing you could do. Keep in mind i drive a 2020 STI. i usually let go to the bitting point and give it gas to roll before fully letting off clutch. The car jerks and it’s an annoying feeling
@@spamusubi47 Yes, But it’s less stress on it and does last longer than doing the method above. In reality anything will burn your clutch. Slowly releasing the clutch while you are adding gas(low rpm’s) is the best way to go.
@@dontworryboutmeok that's what I do, I feel like even if I'm riding the clutch I'm using so little gas that I'm sure it's not wearing it out. Using only clutch is dumb, it doesn't work in most cars. Or at least it definitely doesn't work in my 2023 BRZ, maybe that car is special but I always have to use gas no matter what. Plus what happens on a hill?? Only using clutch will 100% roll back and stall
How do you let the clutch all the way out without giving it any gas? I'm an automatic driver but I learned clutch as a teen and if I let the clutch out too far without any gas, it would stall.
He means slowly letting off of the clutch and allowing the car to have a small roll before using the gas pedal. Some cars are more difficult, like I drove my husband's Honda civic SI and I literally had to give the car a little gas as I was letting off of the clutch or it went nowhere, but other cars that have a higher horsepower will naturally roll while just slowly letting off the clutch, like the dodge Challenger I learned from was this way and so much easier.
My mama taught me by placing both hands as gas and clutch by the feet when I was young. She imagined her as the truck. There was an imaginary stick to my right. my feet pushed against her hands. I was a kid. but it worked and I was driving the tractor in no time. once I knew what to expect, It wasn't scary. everything she told me would happen happened.
@@M471K I have a 93 civic lx 105 hp its kind of a bitch sometimes i have to use the handbrake not to roll back if im on any kind of hill you try to get it to roll with just the clutch you have to really slip it or give it gas.
Only problem is some cars need gas to let off in first gear otherwise it’ll stall. For instance I’m learning to drive stick on a 1999 Honda civic dx coupe and if I let off the clutch without gas in first gear the car stalls I have to give it a little bit of gas for it not to stall.
I have no problem taking off it’s smooth and the rpm’s don’t really go more than 2k yet I’m still worried about slipping the clutch is there any way I can tell?
Can I ride the clutch a little bit in first gear when pulling in a gas station cause my car starts to stall in second gear when im trying to go up the ramp slow
I feel like I've been doing it wrong now :( been driving manual for like 4 months butlet's say I shift from 2nd to 3rd if I engage the clutch completely shift to 3rd then remove my foot all the way the car jerks. But if I give it a little bit of gas the shift is smooth. How do I do it right then??
This is a dangerous way to teach, older cars will stall out like this, and if u get the timing wrong on a left turn you can stall out and get side lined by on coming traffic. Google/TH-cam clutch or gas first for more info
RECAP 1. Pull right foot OFF the gas. 2. First gear 3. Let carr roll out in first gear without gas 4. Let clutch out slowly and then completely out 5. Put right foot back on the gas Clutch in, first gear, take foot away from gas, let cutch out slowly, then find the sweet spot where the clutch engages and the car starts to roll out slowly. The car will start to roll out on its own in first gear; once the left foot is completely off the clutch, put the right foot back on the gas. Once the learner is more comfortable, let them keep their feet LIGHTLY on top of both pedals, but never both at the same time.
Yeah no. No actual driving instructor here will tell you to do that. You will either set off ridiculously slow or more likely just stall, you need a little bit of acceleration. You'd have a heart attack if you were to come to the UK/Europe where most people, even girls shock horror, drive manual easily. Americans and their weird hobbies lol
However I would still teach someone by first having them hover the revs around 2000 and then slowly letting off the clutch while giving enough gas to stay at 2k revs
Thanks alot man im switching from a auto civic to a 1.5l turbo-ed manual one and i dont want to burn the clutch on my new car :o wifes already on my ass for getting a new one ;) Women right.
your sound effects lol. love it dude, totally agree with everything you're saying/know the feeling of teaching someone way too well..
So when are you gonna buy a sti

This technique usually will not work with an older vehicle without software to detect when a load is being applied to the engine.
