Innovative duo Whitehorse (Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland), give an intimate performance at an undisclosed hideaway in the woods in anticipation of their new album "The Fate of the World Depends on this Kiss". This is the song 'No Glamour In The Hammer'.

Just got to see them here in Buffalo at the University of Buffalo Center For the Arts, opening for the Bare Naked Ladies, as they concluded this leg of the 2013 American Tour.
They have plenty of new fans, for sure. And some of us just might head up to The Steel City to check them out again.
brilliant
The pickups in old phones don't transmit the full frequency range of the human voice. They remove some of the higher and lower frequencies transmitting to the line (or soundboard in this case) only the middle range frequencies. This acts as a dual high and low pass filter giving the loop recording the "man in a box" or "person far away" sound they are shooting for, oddly enough the comedian Rob Brydon can do this with his speaking voice. Search "Rob Brydon Live 2009" on TH-cam for an example.
Cool tribute to Hamilton Ontario
Yes.
Great tune. yep yep yep yep
This is just so weird and out there some place,But i'm in love with their singing and music :)
Супер!!!ost Second Chance!!!
I love it the only thing I would do without is the hey hey part.
so odd, but a great dynamic. i feel like this is the shit Tarantino would listen to in his free time.
Does anyone know if this is what they recorded on Jian Ghomeshi's show the other day? Man this is awesome!
As great as the album version. They're really creative.
It's the same song but its obviously not the same actual recording. This video came out in August
Okay--- I'm asking the question? What's with the PHONE??? Is that some looping apparatus? I dig it.
Yes, they have a looper but it's not the phone. It's a ‘low-fi’ sound that some people enjoy. It's similar to what Foster the People does on Pumped Up Kicks but they use a microphone that makes a similar sound. There is a microphone called The Copperphone that makes this sound. Newer microphones have a high range of frequency where the older microphones like in a phone had a very limited range of frequency. Another way to achieve this sound is to use an equalizer that allows you to select a frequency range, cutting out the higher and lower end of the range. In the case of Pumped Up Kicks I think he's singing into harmonica microphone like the "green bullet' made by Shure. If you listen to very old songs from the early 1900s they sound like they were singing through a megaphone. It's just a vintage sound that some people still toy with.
One more point, I don't think they use the phones on this song. They did other songs in this set where they used it. Watch the 3 minute 15 second point of the video called Whitehorse | Killing Time and you will hear the phones.
Melissa on bass.... :)
Hammertown
ex good good
I saw some glamour in the Hammer last week. Sorry for gentrification.
It took me awhile but I figured it out, they are awesome but no one wants to listen to music you have to look up meanings for. Baby, baby, oh! Do you know what I mean? Lol
People are different. I have no idea what most of my favorite songs are about. I don't listen to words or care about the story. I just feel it.
Oy, drummer! Get a friggin' metronome.
Way to beat up Hamilton, thanks.... Lame
