The only thing missing at Detroit Central Station are the trains. Trains from Chicago, Toronto, New York City, and all over the Midwest without connecting to another train.
@adambuesser6264 from what I've heard, is that the train station is going to have stores and restaurants. I think the auto industry would be afraid of sales dropping off they put a train there. It's unfortunate because a train would be amazing for Detroit.

This is a beautifully made video essay. It kept me engaged right to the end. Here in far-off Australia, last I heard the demolition program was struggling for lack of funds. I’m so glad I came across this heartwarming report to bring me up to date. I have a slight connection to the city, having attended a trade fair in 1983, at what's now the Westin. I’ve been to a lot of places around the world but for some reason I have always kept an interest in Detroit and how it’s going. I’m so glad it’s on an upward swing. Respect and affection from an old time visitor.
This video deserves a lot more recognition than it has gotten. Doesn’t matter Democrats vs Republicans it’s about the people. And this mayor wants to save his city. I’m all here for the comeback of Detroit.
This mental health concept needs to be told far and wide. The US greatest problems, from crime to homelessness, is contingent on our poor handling of mental health issues.
This is good… restoring the humanity of society! I’m an American living and watching in Australia. This gives me hope for change in America and living there again someday! Well Done! 😊
This is inspiring. I've lived in SW Michigan all but 1 of my 44 years on this Earth. Through my childhood it was a joke and a source of shame for the people of Michigan. Recently there's been a sense of renewal that is palpable everywhere in the state. Part of that is the Lions starting to win. But it was noticeable even before that. This video has helped me understand why. I'm very grateful for Mayor Duggan and Chief White.
Love to see it. I’ve been visiting Detroit from Chicago every Memorial Day weekend for DEMF/Movement at Hart Plaza. Detroit floored me the first year I went back in 2001. The amount of decay and rotted homes and abandoned skyscrapers blew my mind. The past few years the changes have been very noticeable. Detroit is our motor city, and deserves to rise up again as one of our great cities!
This is a video that I thought had been done too often already... but the focus on people and individual stories really emphasized how Detroit is becoming a model city for the US.
Hey VERY accurately represented my city well :) - I'm a bit saddened, haven't visited downtown just yesterday for the Christmas festivities. To see SOOOO many family's there, husbands and wives with children, boyfriends and girlfriends with parents, teenagers, and pets, all walking around, peacefully, enjoying everything Detroit has to offer...and for me to leave, in exactly 2 weeks from now to a foreign country...brought me to tears. I've seen the fall and rise to where it is now. Foreigners from all over the world come here now. That was not a thing for DECADES until the last 2 - 3 years. Bell Isle was restored (wish you'd have covered it, too), riverwalk is awesome, the Dequindre Cut is a cut above the rest. And the razing of abandoned buildings was a radical idea at the time, and I would get lost because I couldn't recognize the areas anymore due to re-development or the razing of those buildings. Dugan is a light unto the city and world. It saddens us he won't be seeking another term, and he has large shoes to fill. As Governor, he will be equally great, if not better, but as a conservative, I'd vote for him as President (or Governor) ANY day of the week. He's that good, thoughtful, kind and caring of a leader. I was at the Michigan Train Station concert where he gave his speech. I could see him up close and personal both in the crowd and while on stage. He was teary eyed. He'd seen what he'd accomplished from his vision, his dream of this city. One of the greatest mayors of this century to ever do it, and ever will. God Bless, Duggan. We, the city, wish him all the best.
I'm a former Detroit Carpenter local 687, I did a speech and live Q&A with mayor Mike Duggan a couple years ago concerning the new carpenter apprenticeship school that was built. I was hoping I'd see myself on your video lowkey lol! No but Duggan is a great guy he seems very sincere, I moved out of Detroit and every day i miss my city man... Even in the last 3 years its changed dramatically.
With negativity in today's world, especially with social media. This is nice to see. A mayor with a vision that has success for the people they represent.
My Grandma tells me stories about Detroit from the 50's-late 60's,about how wonderful and beautiful the city was, including how safe it was to walk around without fear of being mugged, shot, beat up or your life subscription ending by horrific means.I praise Detroit for restoring what was once considered the Paris of the west, and working hard to combat the constant violence within the city.Keep restoring buildings, even homes that weren't completely burned down or dilapidated, which encourages more Michiganders too move back to Detroit.Keep up the excellent work!
I find it so amazing that we all know and see how crime creates poverty and yet we have politicians that will actually encourage crime and wonder why poverty is increasing.
During the 2020 riots, the mayor, and the police chief held a news conference. They stated, in no uncertain terms that any protests, whatever, will not be tolerated. A personal friend of mine who is a attendee of a local University, and some of her friends decided to go down to Detroit to 'march'. They were arrested, taken to the baseball stadium, where there were several magistrates waiting to process, fine, and provide court dates. She and her friends were put on probation, and had to pay significant fines. Her parents, had to drive to Detroit the next morning to pick her up. They wondered what part of zero tolerance, was she uncertain about?
Proud of you Mayor Duggan & Chief James White. This needs be embraced and deserves a national spotlight. When we collectively work towards a common goal, for betterment of human kind and community. Our race, gender and creed no longer take center stage, instead, it exists left. Here in Chicago, we have so much to learn from both of you leaders.
I'm absolutely astonished with the noble work of this Mens and women !! Detroit we love you! I wish the best for a city who suffer a lot from many different circumstances. So many good music, artist, anonymous people who suffer many injustices and still try to make a different.Underground Resitance is the Key.That's Class.Lots of love from Madrid.
I wonder if you'll do Baltimore soon. The city has gone from America's crime capital (arguably artificially so), to becoming a reasonably safe and more and more friendly and equitable place to live. The current mayor has a large part to play in that.
My husband was seconded to Michigan in 2011 from South Africa 🇿🇦! We initially were supposed to go to Texas, but he ended up being placed in Detroit. It was an advantage because it allowed is to drive to Chicago, Washington , NYC , New Jersey! It was a beautiful experience. Michigan and Chicago have different time zones. Michigan is 1 hour ahead, while driving from Detroit to Chicago, we had a weird experience of gaining an hour. We left Detroit at 16:00, we drove for an hour, we saw time skipping back to 16:00 as we entered Illinois 😂… It’s beautiful to see the City rising like a Phoenix!
@8:20 That part teared me up a bit. To often we see situations like these end with someone dead. It's sad, and to watch this interaction play out like that was heartwarming
THANK YOU for making an honest video about Detroit that isn’t conservative fear mongering. I have lived and worked in Detroit since 2017 and witnessing a big part of its comeback has been incredible.
Moved here, yet outside of Detroit. Before you go all feel good story Detroit is pretty tore up, wore out and sketchy. Don't be fooled at all by this video, 165 car j*ckings, endless m*rder, endless blight. It's going to take a lifetime to just make it o.k., you people need to understand how bad everything is, and the volume of bad buildings, barb wire, tore up infrastructure, huge areas you can't or would never get off the highway to get gas or you'd be a victim.
Grew up in Windsor going to Detroit every day. I can attest that the city, while still not in its former glory, is coming back! This was a cool chance to put a name to all that success. Thanks for this TDC!
Hats off to the Mayor, the Chief of Police, and all the people in Detroit working to make it better. “The great cities of America got that way on the backs of people who stood unafraid to commit themselves to the future”- unknown
It’s probably not gonna happen because of the cities deep ties to the auto industry, but man, they could avoid so much of the red tape if they built now while land is cheap and mostly undeveloped.
Great video but just a minor nitpick, it's Highway 401 not 101 in Windsor. Thanks for highlighting the wonderful things going on in my city!

Fantastic! Thank you for this, I'm glad the piece resonated with you. Travel well!
Happy for Detroit! 👍🏼👍🏻👍🏾
Well done Detroit and Mayor Duggan. Proud to be a Detroiter
A true mayor who loves his city and its citizens congrats D-town keep on the good work!!!
Amazing what a competent mayor can accomplish
See, you didn't need a cyborg to bring Detroit back from the brink. Just good leadership.
This makes me proud to be a Michigander!
Duggan is one of the best administrators in the entire country
Yall on to something keep it up Detroit 😊
With negativity in today's world, especially with social media. This is nice to see. A mayor with a vision that has success for the people they represent.
More stories like this are needed WAY MORE
Glad to see a mayor that actually cares about the city.
Such a cool and slept on city
Detroit is doing amazing work. I was there for the NFL Draft, and was deeply impressed.
I’m a Yooper so I’m proud of Michigan already but this makes me proud to be a Michigander on another level. Go Detroit
Best mayor we’ve had in my lifetime.
look at the difference between this mayor and san francisco mayor. Polar opposite
Propaganda and Misinformation
San Francisco just elected a new mayor. Things may just improve yet.
Outstanding - Love Detroit and Love Michigan
Thanks!
Can Mike Duggan run for president? It’s not too late right?
Haha, might be a bit too late this year…
The presidency is not meant for good people
Mike Duggan saved my life
This Mayor could make a great president. Bringing the country back together. Good job!
Shoutout to the Police Chief. We need more policing like this with special divisions for mental health!! And shoutout to the Mayor as well!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Absolutely!
We need more people like him
During the 2020 riots, the mayor, and the police chief held a news conference.
4:06 if you read the story about the train station ; it was One year away from being unrepairable .
the sub basement had been flooded for decades .
Coleman young and Kwame Kilpatrick .
the key to rebuilding is obvious
Also thanks for shouting out chief white. He and duggan are the two best leaders Detroit has had in decades and they’ve really turned the city around
;)
Proud of you Mayor Duggan & Chief James White. This needs be embraced and deserves a national spotlight. When we collectively work towards a common goal, for betterment of human kind and community. Our race, gender and creed no longer take center stage, instead, it exists left. Here in Chicago, we have so much to learn from both of you leaders.
kudos to the mayor and everyone....great leadership
So proud of you Detroit the MOTOR CITY IS BACK i wish other cities follow your model!!!
Detroit comeback city!!!! Awesome video great information.
Baltimore's mayor is a simp!
There is hope in the galaxy.
We left Detroit at 16:00, we drove for an hour, we saw time skipping back to 16:00 as we entered Illinois 😂…
It’s beautiful to see the City rising like a Phoenix!
God Bless you Doc. You're doing very well Mayor Duggan
Poverty doesn't cause crime, Crime causes poverty.
You’re welcome!
Well it's conservative fear-mongering that got people to do their job.
^ THIS ^
OP is a leftist bot.
I'm a conservative & live outside of Detroit, it's x50 worse than this feel good story.
This brought tears to my eyes. Really beautiful.
Maybe in the future would be construct a new railway of trains with speed above 300 km/h between Detroit and Toronto!
Grew up in Windsor going to Detroit every day. I can attest that the city, while still not in its former glory, is coming back! This was a cool chance to put a name to all that success. Thanks for this TDC!
So beautiful, honestly wishing the best for the historic city that is Detroit
Cities belong to their people! That's the only good news i've heard about US in a very long time. Respect for you Detroit!
I wish and hope that everyone who speaks bad about Detroit, or has a severe lack of knowledge of Detroit sees this video.
Hats off to the Mayor, the Chief of Police, and all the people in Detroit working to make it better. “The great cities of America got that way on the backs of people who stood unafraid to commit themselves to the future”- unknown
That was a good video. I hope Detroit keep improving.
Fascinating so good to finally see positive news about Detroit.
This is how every police department in the country should be operated!
Public transport should be next on the list. We can’t have a subway because of the salt mines but we NEED RAIL
It’s probably not gonna happen because of the cities deep ties to the auto industry, but man, they could avoid so much of the red tape if they built now while land is cheap and mostly undeveloped.
