I'm 35 and pay around $50 a month for full comp on my 1998 FZJ105 valued at $14k, pretty happy with that. They tried to drop the value last renewal, which was a laugh because like all 4wd's lately the value has only gone up, one phone call and they were happy to set the value at almost whatever I wanted
The 1500$ Australian dollar range is probably a fair price with water crossings included. In the States they would definitely gouge us If we divulged that we had plans to cross rivers with the vehicle. Right now I pay about 1100usd a month to insure a 1986 Toyota 4Runner and I’m 41 with a good driving discount. It used to be that getting an old car insured was cheaper but these days if the vehicle doesn’t have air bags and anti lock breaks they really charge you a lot more.
I'm 39. Went with Club 4 x 4 as no one would give me the agreed value that I wanted. Most companies only offering me about half the agreed value. Applying online is the way to go with them. Once you give them your details, vehicle specs and mod list they'll contact you, no waiting on hold. 2001 Landcruiser 105 with heaps of mods inc. 1HDT engine swap. Agreed value $37k. $100 per month with an excess of $900 (they have different options, less excess/more per month, vice versa) Full coverage/towing on and off road.
I found the first 2 years with club 4x4 the price was pretty good. Then it went through the roof and I had to change. Went with Shannon’s in the end, they said water crossings were ok.
I’ve had 4bys in Aus for 10 years roughly and I’ve never had anything other than the bare minimum 3rd party but never owned anything more expensive than 10k . Makes me stay far away from other vehicles haha
I am with Shannon's and they insure if you do water crossings. I asked them that other day and you are insured if you cross water if there is not other option. Basically if you have road with not crossing and next to it is goat track with water, you go through and kill your car, then they would not accept your claim. If you are driving over crossing let's say Ely Creek and kill it there, then you are insured. Just call and ask what it is and don't listen some Joe Bloe from Facebook.
I think sticking with 3rd party fire and theft is the way to go in your situation. Just remember having good history with 3rd party doesn't necessarily build up many brownie points with insurers when you do want to convert to full comprehensive. I would also look at a descent road side assist package if you intend doing long distant interstate trips. I know you go in convoy on most trips but you could become a real drag on others if your car decides to completely give up. Another impressive episode.

In 2012 I had the misfortune to write off two small cars and made two other insurance claims on the second one. Both vehicles were 2006 models and both insured with RACV. In January of 2013 I bought a basic 2006 Toyota Yaris and because of my four claims between July & December of 2012, my quoted insurance premium was $1600. I have a permanent no claim bonus, have been licensed since 1978 and am 63 years old now. By switching to AAMI I was able to get insurance for around $600 in 2013. All those policies were full comp.
Yep, just about that time of year for me too. I have a 97 NL Paj so I found you through searching for pajero videos and stayed because I enjoy all the vids! you guys have taught me heaps already, cheers!
Thanks so much Racso! means alot mate :)
@@AussieArvos Could you guys make a video on the bare essentials needed to go on a 4WD camping trip with mates and or by yourself?
Shannon’s covered my 100 series when the fan ate the radiator on the telegraph track a couple of years back. Told em it was in the water on a gazetted road and no questions asked. Got it replaced in Bamaga.
Have had a claim with shannons for a classic car with full comp when i was on my p's, was written off but got my full payout, so as far as dealing with claims shannons is very good
I'm 35 and pay around $50 a month for full comp on my 1998 FZJ105 valued at $14k, pretty happy with that.
$100 per month with an excess of $900 (they have different options, less excess/more per month, vice versa)
Full coverage/towing on and off road.
Yeah, that's what you want, i think for cases where you really want that agreed value, it makes sense! nice rig!
I found the first 2 years with club 4x4 the price was pretty good. Then it went through the roof and I had to change. Went with Shannon’s in the end, they said water crossings were ok.
Yeah i feel like they jack up the prices , you think it should get cheaper!
i had the same experience with my 200 series, comment on that in a reply above.

Yeah that's good !
It doesn’t matter if you are a P player or not, once a car is worth less than 7/8 K it gets hard to justify comprehensive insurance
All these years I’ve never seen you wear a tie until now 😂

Don’t be so confident with club 4x4. Lots of stories of them not paying and then jacking up premiums after the first year.
Intro was mint boys
i have a newer 2016 hilux and i did state to budget insurance (who i am insured by) that this ute will be used for off road enjoyment, they are covering it but each year its taking around about 3k out of my pocket, my mate who has a fj47 that has been done up nicely is ensured by shannons insurance and hes fully insured as long as the track is legitimate mapped track that can be located on most types of maps. same goes with my insurance. these are both full comp deals as well,
ADDED PART. if you are on your P plates red or green i advice putting your parents or a fully licensed friend on the insurance, if they have a good record it can drop your yearly expense down a good portion, because thats exactly what Ive done. i would of paid 5k per year being a red P plater but when i added my parents and one of my mates, it dropped it down significantly.
Same. I’ve got a hj61 ...with every mod possible...they won’t touch it. The reason they won’t touch mine is because the dual fuel of lpg & diesel is not a combo they recognise or understand

Another big question to ask is: Am I covered in 4x4 parks? For most insurers is a straight NO! They classify them as a testing ground just like a race track.
