Absolutely gorgeous doll! Funnily enough… collectors weren’t happy with Barbie in 2009. I often see collectors bash Playline Barbie dolls in old forums from the 2000s & early 2010s. It’s quite fascinating because in retrospective those really were the most detailed Barbie dolls after the 1960s ones! You can dislike the aesthetic, but Barbie never had a more detailed facepaint & in many cases also that amount of details in her clothes or even articulation. I think collectors just always complain, even if something is better than what they had before.

Literally, every generation of Barbie collectors think everything that came after them is worse than what they had...lol. when I started collecting ( a lonnnng time ago) no one wanted the mid 60s dolls, and forget about Mod.andvif you liked anything from the 70s, well that was garbage. And then the American Girls of the mid 60s became incredibly desirable....but still mod? Blecch. And then Mod became incredibly desirable, but 70s? Are you kidding? ...and then the early 70s became popular, and then the Superstar era, etc etc. The 90s is now gaining interest, vas well as the early 2000s.... Barbie is made for the generation that plays with her. And one day kids that played with today's dolls will look back fondly on the dolls of their generation and look down upon the dolls their kids are playing with....lol

Mattel has tons of money now.
They can easily go back to these older and much cooler fashionistas.

The hair, the mug, the dress - that's the Barbie we remember and love! But that sad attempt of a ruffle on the new, ehem, "Barbie" doll is simply diabolical!

So pink! so fashion! so 2009 I love! At this point, I feel like AI could design better playline fashions for todays barbies 🙊

I agree with you , the Barbie Fashionista brand in the beginning was iconic and the dolls had basic articulation which I wish the current Fashionista line would have . The fashions are also incredible 😍 To me, opening an older new in box Barbie is more exciting than opening a new Barbie . Thanx for sharing 😊

Yes, Bring Back the Glam! I agree 100% The dolls today for the most part can be very basic and rather mundane. I buy as many vintage fashions and I can and redress my newer Barbies.

Back then and even in the 90s, barbie always had her hair done, fully glam makeup and fun jewelry and accessories regardless of the occasion. And you'd rarely catch barbie with flat feet (with an exception for some cheerleader, Olympic and sport dolls with the articulated gymnast bodies). Even when she wore sneakers, they were usually always molded to accommodate her permanently high heeled feet so she could easily switch back to the glamorous heels. *Sigh* Sadly, that's something I dont feel well ever get back with Barbie 😔

I have three dolls from this 2009 Fashionista line, I have Barbie Glam and Girly and Teresa Sassy. and they really were beautiful, I remember that the year they were launched they were a mega success due to their articulations, all the children wanted an articulated Barbie. But as not everything is rosy, this line has its problems. First the characters This line used the Barbie character a lot, and forgot about her friends, in 2009 for example there were FOUR Barbies, ONE Nikki and ONE Teresa. And that's because Barbie already had a group of five steady friends in 2009 Nikki,Teresa,Summer and Raquelle. But in general, the problem of using Barbie too much was not just from the Fashionista line, the Chic Line and the Glitz Line from 2009/2013 launched three dolls of the character Barbies instead of launching one Barbie, Nikki and Teresa. In addition to the Hairstatic line, which would be perfect with characters like Raquelle, but Raquelle doesn't even participate in the line and Teresa and Summer appear in an edition... the 2009/2013 era was very cruel to Barbie's friends. Finally, leaving the poorly divided emphasis that Mattel made on the Barbie line in 2009/2013, this wave of Fashionistas had horrible fabrics. I'll talk about the ones I had. Glam: her dress has economy on the back, the glitter on her dress comes off in less than a year, her dress peels off. Girly: her dress loses its color, the top of her dress tears by itself. Sassy: her skirt is an umbrella fabric, the reindeer underneath the skirt is economical, the Sassy doll comes with ugly glasses instead of a bag.

I got her recently with Wild but I am quite curious because their bodies are part of wave one but without the chest articulation so I am curious on which manufacturing batch they belong.

The early era of the Fashionistas when they all had an adjective as a name had some cute styles, the ones I liked better were usually Sweetie and Cutie though...
Glam was a bit too Nouveau riche for me... XDDDD
But Sporty was always a brunette which was appreciated!

She is beautiful and yes this is what Barbie should be BUT…
Now that i have a 2005 Fashion Fever in my collection I see how mediocre the Fashionistas were
I understand that seeing the new releases of modern Barbie everything was made in the past look better but honestly the early 2010s hyper feminine hot pink bimbo Barbie was a parody of herself
As you also explained in your “Barbie flop era” video in this era we got only mediocre pink short sleeveless dresses so…
Not the great quality, in fact I think Mattel added the articulation to compensate for the mediocrity of the outfits
Don’t get me wrong, I wish we could get back the totally pink hyper feminine Barbie but Mattel can’t ignore that there are still many people that need an ordinary Barbie
As I said in the comment under your last video, making two lines, a budget one with stiff bodies and fashionable clothes sold separately and another line with articulation and pink feminine outfits would make everyone happy

A Fashionista with both style and articulation to zombie bodies in frumpy t-shirt dresses..... what the hell happened?

    • @mattsutton7785
      @mattsutton7785 ปีที่แล้ว

I think a lot has to do with the price point of the new Fashionistas and wholesale costs. Walmart is the major retailer of these, and probably requires a lower wholesale cost so that when they need to discount a wave to bring in a new one, they still make $ . It's like holiday decor at big stores.... Something marked $10 doesn't wholesale at $5, it's probably $2.50. Because with holiday stuff, at some point you keep marking it down to get rid of it, but still need to make $ on it. If they can't do that with Fashionista dolls, they probably wouldn't bring in new waves and the line would die. ( also, production costs overseas are crazy high these days, so you get way less detail for a $10 doll now then you would a $10 doll in 2010, or 2000, etc) ❤❤
