    Very nice presentaion.
A bit of his personal history which is remarkable.
Wonderful images and a few specs that helped create them.
Finally, an appreciation of the people and their historic culture. His culture.

The interruption of marketing reframes the images not as someone's story but as proofs of performance. And in the process does neither the photographer, Leica, the camera, nor the images justice. Leica has a quality that speaks for itself, just as how they should allow the images. I am interested to hear from the photographer more about what he felt observing the simple life and his return to the mountains than what ISO he was shooting. A really lovely job that somehow got lost.

I didn't think the marketing was too intrusive. It is an advertisement afterall so the performance of the camera is important.

Switzerland, as close to the wilderness as one can get here in this short video, no better camera that is closer to the heart than a leica, I must say! I dont care its an M10-R or M10 or type 240, with some great lenses, you capture the most beautiful images, Sony A series and others can do the same, but Leica has that charm and kind of a 'right' to be chosen as a camera to take on such a journey.

    • @awannagannaful
      @awannagannaful 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@jeremyfielding2333 why wouldn't they, and also, how much of a better camera could you find anyway? First of all, Leica would never do it, no reason to, their cameras and lenses are superb, second, not worth the bad PR if caught out. Also, I've done shoots like this, it just wouldn't happen, makes no sense.

My god I have a Leica but the brand is just so over hyped. Patch focusing, no stabilisation, no auto focus, not tracking, No evf, but then again it wouldn't be a "proper" Leica if it had all that ?

It's a camera! Very Expensive. I use my M3 (55 years now) and the original 50mm Summicon, 35mm Summaron Goggles and the 135mm Tele Elmar f4. I shhot film. Digital in small cameras.

sorry, for me "typical Leica Look" are black&white or color photos mostly with high-contrast and visible noise, comparable to the report photos in older newspapers and magazines from the analog era, "National Geographic" or "Time Magazine" or made by many "Magnum" photographers for instance, the photos shown here in this video don`t necessarily look like Leica, so I don't necessarily have to spend a lot of money for this, but I have the same impression on many other videos about Leica camers especially from younger photographers who didn`t experience the analog Leica time and therefore have no comparisons, nowadays visible noise is more of a devil stuff than a photographic composition tool
pure "life + street photography" is what I associate with the "typical Leica Look" even if not every photographer uses a Leica - here`s a video I`ve found as one example which shows photographers and their work so you can see what I mean th-cam.com/video/QPRASv4-thI/w-d-xo.html

sorry, but it may not surprise you that of course I don`t think I did :-)
Dominic Nahr wants to show the meaning of "tradition" as an aspect of modern, but more traditional oriented cameras, here especially the Leica M-10R and Leica`s dedication to tradition, and a more traditional way of photography in relation to traditional ways of life and work and that it is important for him that this Leica "has everything in a small package giving him complete freedom to work", ok, this is what it is, his own individual point of view and that's a good thing no one wants to change
on the other side my individual point of view is that you don't necessarily need a Leica M-10R for this, as this advertising video of course would communicate at least subliminally, you can also achieve these goals with cameras from other manufacturers and this also applies to the photo examples shown here which for me don't look "typical Leica" and that's exactly the point in my first comment where I wanted to describe what is or was "typical Leica Look" for me and that you even don`t have to use a Leica to get this look, mainly Leica is a manufacturer whose products are also often associated with the longing for tradition and a more relaxed way of photography especially from analog times, but these times are gone and these are no longer unique selling points, you can do all of this with other cameras as well, only the inner attitude and the skills of the photographer are important
(English isn`t my main, but I guess you know what I try to say)

yeah it got soooo cheesey when he dropped technical specs in the commentary over the video. just made it all seem so phony and awkward. there is a way to speak on how the new aspects of the M10-R's sensor are helpful, but this just read like a gussied up spec sheet instead of a photographer demonstrating the capabilities of a tool.

Great story, good video coverage...according photography - nothing the average hobby-photographer couldn't have done. Taking an image with a colour-sensor, changing to black/white and saying "Hey, it's made with a Leica", does not make it a piece of art.
