Chicken Dabba Gosht

  • Ingredients
    1 lb or 1/2 kg boneless chicken cut in small pieces
    1 cup cooked macaroni cooked as per package instructions.
    3 eggs
    2 tbsp ginger/ garlic paste
    3 green chilies
    12 to 15 cashews
    2 tbsp poppy seeds
    2 tbsp Dalya or phutane
    2 tbsp watermelon seeds or Magaj seeds
    1 tsp Garam masala
    1 cup yogurt
    4 tbsp fresh cream (optional)
    2 to 3 tomatoes thinly sliced
    1 bag potato chips OR 3 fresh potatoes sliced and deep fried. I opted for potato chips. It’s my twist😄
    6 tbsp cooking oil
    5 tbsp ghee or clarified butter
    1/2 tsp black pepper powder
    Salt
    1 cup water
    Chopped cilantro
    Method
    1. Marinate chicken pieces with salt and ginger/garlic paste. Keep aside for sometime
    2. Grind cashews, poppy seeds, watermelon seeds, dalya, yogurt, fresh cream and green chilies to a fine paste.
    3. Beat eggs and keep aside.
    4. Chop tomatoes in thin round slices.
    5. Heat the pan, add oil and sauté marinated chicken for couple minutes
    6. Cover and simmer it for at least 7 to 8 minutes on medium to low heat till chicken cooks.
    7. Add blended paste of cashews, Ipoh seeds etc. and mix well
    8. Add 1 cup of water and make and mix well and let it simmer for 3 to 4 minutes.
    9. Add Garam masala
    10. Add cooked macaroni and mix well and simmer for couple minutes.
    Presentation of Dabba Gosht
    1. Pour this mixture in microwave or oven safe dish.
    2. Arrange tomato and potato chips on top. You can deep fry fresh potato slices too but adding g potato chips instead is my twist😄
    3. Pour beaten egg on top evenly.
    4. Now heat ghee or clarified butter to a smoking point.
    5. Slowly but quickly pour ghee all over the beaten egg. You should get the chirping sound😄
    6. Put the dish in microwave for 5 minutes.
    7. It’s ready to serve.
    8. Garnish with cilantro.
