      Doing this (even as recently as the fairly recent video about the Sunday routine) seems to help Simon quite a bit with his speech.
      It’s good to see that Simon is still moving forward pretty well after it looked at first like Ezra broke his bus. Talking to the camera and making video might be one of the things that has helped him with this. It also helps that his father was able to fix the bus (from the looks of it).

    For safety, I'd recommend switching drivers more often. My dad's policy on our family road trips is to switch every hour. He generally considers an eight hour day with driver changes to be a full day of travel (on the other hand, I imagine the logistics of a hotel room for 4 people are easier than for 7).
    We generally don't pay too much attention to eating healthy on the road because getting out of the vehicle for an extended break for meals helps with fatigue, so we just select a restaurant from the "next exit" signs when people start getting hungry.

    It’s good to see that Simon already knows the words “baby” here and the word “bunny”. I think I was at least 4 years old when I learned those words (if not five).
    Hearing the words “bunny” and “hop” reminds me that I once heard a PDQ Bach song with the lyrics “Little bunny hop, hop, hop”.

    When I saw the parts of this video about holding your breath while going through a tunnel I remembered the Tiny Toons episode about how they spent their summer vacation. I remembered the scene with that and the part where they were looking for cars to pass the time.
    I remember that my sister and I were asked to find a specific color of car on some of our road trips. The joke in the Tiny Toons episode was that they were looking for any car (which plucky was annoyed by (it makes sense in context)).
    That episode of Tiny Toons is an example of animation that is mostly interesting for adults, teens, and maybe some older kids because younger kids might not get the jokes and at least a few scenes might be scary for very young kids.

    Did you do any work on Simon’s daytime toilet training during this road trip (e.g. after you got to the destination and Simon had some time to adjust) in order to help Simon generalize or did you put his training on hold until after Simon got back home? What are your thoughts on road trips and how they relate to potty training?
    Also if you already knew about Simon’s PDA at this point in time maybe you can cover this in the future when you eventually do a video about PDA as it relates to potty training specifically in terms of how it relates to how potty training should be handled with PDA and autism on road trips and other long drives and some of the pros and cons of various approaches in connection with this.
    My mother didn’t really work on my training (as such) when I was on the family trip to Nantucket at age three-and-a-half aside from pointing out to me when a wetting or a movement seemed to be in progress in order to work on bodily awareness (sort of like what is done in EC (elimination communication) minus the part about using a receptacle.
    My first road trip after being toilet trained during the day (for the most part at least) was a drive to Niagara Falls (New York and Ontario) that was shorter than the road trip in this video (if you only made a small number of stops) but not by much. I was six years old, almost seven on that road trip and my training at that point was still enough of a work in progress that my parents needed to make frequent stops to keep me from regressing too much in this area during the trip. At that point in time I still didn’t mind being wet all that much (aside from wet hands and wet feet (especially when my shoes or socks would get wet)) and my ability to feel embarrassed would only seem to start working a few years later (around age nine or so). It looks like in some instances the ability to feel embarrassed can begin later when someone is level two (like I was around that age). Now that I’m level one my ability to feel embarrassed is probably fairly normal (but then again this can be difficult to measure). This can vary from person to person, though. For example, Ezra is level three and his social skills seem to better than mine were at that age even though he’s still nonverbal at this point in time.
    Despite some accidents (of both types) here and there my parents managed to keep me daytime trained (and mostly out of diapers, aside from nighttime) on that road trip through a number of reminders and many bathroom breaks (including finding an out of the way area to pull over on one road where no rest rooms were available on the way home).
    Some of my earlier clear memories come from the Nantucket trip (when I was three-and-a-half years old). I guess being on the spectrum (currently level one, but level two originally) helped me to develop episodic memories at an earlier age than you would typically see in someone neurotypical. This is not universal, though. My sister is on the spectrum (level one with hyperlexia (and she has always been level one)) and her clear memories started around age eight. This just goes to show that everyone whether autistic or neurotypical is unique. I have noticed that sometimes people seem to forget this.
    This pretty much sums up my thoughts on these things for the time being.

    • @7Aheadfamily
      @7Aheadfamily  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, and Simon is pretty much potty trained at night now as well, so we are excited about that.

    Based on how long ago this was filmed Simon was probably still in diapers for the trip.
    If Simon was starting to get to the point of being embarrassed when he uses his diaper in front of other people that might explain why he was covering himself with the blanket.
    On the other hand, if Simon wasn’t wetting his diaper at the moment (or if doing that didn’t really bother him yet) he might have been experiencing light sensitivity and/or visual overload.
    Or he was copying what the person in the seat next to him was doing. Maybe they were playing some kind of a game.

    Simon & Ezra schould switch spots in your van. Ezra is more needy & requires more help but your older kids are doing it all & really you schould be doing most of that.. Jus my opinion.

    Question. Did any of your kids other than the 9th hour ? 15:52

      @7Aheadfamily  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm sorry. I don't understand your question. I looked at what was happening during that time stamp. It was during the 9th hour and I saw that we were all getting ice-cream shakes. All the kids got chocolate shakes.

      That’s a good question, I will have to ask Benson. Actually, I guess I know all the music that’s on his MP3 player because I put it on there. 😊 It’s mostly just like wholesome Pop music, the Lego movie soundtrack. 😊

    Anybody any tips for how to get yourself to eat fruit and vegetables I get tummy issues cos I don't eat fruit I've tried smoothies when I was in hospital and they did smoothie Saturdays refused them at first vos they were green coloured so they put me strawberries in so it was a red colour reluctantly drank it not had smoothies since sll my life even my mum couldn't persuade me to eat fruit or vegetablesvi said its only for rabbits any ideas would be a great help thanks

    • @7Aheadfamily
      @7Aheadfamily  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s the cool thing about a smoothie is you can make it how you like it, and still get in a lot of nutritional things. Is there a favorite fruit you do have? For example, if you like mangoes, you can use the basic structure that I did on this shake and get a lot of greens and stuff in there, but then put in a bunch of mangoes and, you can have a pretty good tasting shake and still get all your vitamins.😊 The main thing, though, is mindset. You have to know your why, and it has to be stronger than you desire to not eat healthy.

    I sincerely never laugh out loud at anything on the internet. And I hate to sound rude but I really don't enjoy children aside from my nieces. Everyone says all kids are cute, I don't get it. Well I got randomly recommended your video a couple days ago from TH-cam's algorithm
    ..and have been watching a few videos each day...., and oh my god yall, simon!! What?????? How is he so cute and smart??! I've actually did a literal lol at a couple things Simon said. It's not fair that y'all made such a cute kid! I mean God should've left some cute left for other parents. He basically used up all the cute on simon, this is not fair!
