    I absolutely love this series - it’s so important for kids to know that those with so called disabilities are just normal people too like them 💛

    • @punky19761
      @punky19761 5 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Science with Katie it’s not “so called.” We’re disabled. It’s a fine thing to say. 😉 Also “normal” is subjective and not that important.

    • @SciencewithKatie
      @SciencewithKatie 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Lisa TheCatDude Ah, I have a friend who has Down’s syndrome who is always offended by the thought of being considered disabled, I wouldn’t want to offend anyone else by saying it is a disability. By normal I just meant like everyone else in terms of having the same thoughts, hopes, and dreams. I didn’t mean anything bad at all by using the word “normal”, I was just trying to say that everyone is “normal”.

    • @punky19761
      @punky19761 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Science with Katie Most of The Disabled community are perfectly fine with the words disabled and disability. It’s the words that we have claimed for ourselves, as apposed to the many other words probably made up by able bodied people. There are a few disabled people who don’t like the word Disabled , but then you should just use their preferred words for them, and revert back to disabled and disability most other times. If you refer to some people (able bodied people) as normal, and by default Disabled people not normal, a lot of disabled people aren’t going to like that very much.

      So right

    • @cancerisfunny9699
      @cancerisfunny9699 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I disagree,
      I am autistic, it impacts me socially, therefore it is a disability and is not normal, the normal is just the most common. I would not consider myself normal or no-one should consider me to be normal. Yes you shouldn’t judge people based on a disability but you should know it’s there.

      I have seen so many parents protect their kids from anyone who doesn’t look like a J Crew model. I used to work with a mixed disability residence. We had one guy who had Down syndrome. He was fairly non verbal until an older man adopted him as a brother. One person having faith and this 30 year old guy who also lived there started talking & reading within ONE month. That’s when I finally understood the old adage, “don’t judge a book by its cover.”

      Cường Lê Đức I have Spina Bifida, so a different disability, and sometimes I can tell when another person has Spina Bifida. But also sometimes Spina Bifida doesn’t look like my form of Spina Bifida at all. sometimes a person with Cerebral Palsy and a few other disabilities look like someone with Spina Bifida. But sometimes disabled folk have specific, Spina Bifida-like qualities. I don’t personally find that offensive, as long as you believe me when I tell you things from my personal point of view.

    I have an 8 year old little brother who has Down syndrome and he has completely changed my life which I am very thankful for. My little brother has taught me so much and watching this video made me so happy and just shows how people with downs aren’t just a stereotype. They, along with all people with disabilities should be included in society because they are humans to. Loved this video! 💙💛

    I came here to see something positive about down syndrome, as i recently found out my son that will be born in October has it… but i find it disheartening that the majority of comments are so focused on saying how smart and articulate the little girl is rather than anything about the girl with ds… obviously what they find valuable in a person is in that little girl, not the one with ds. And the irony is I know everyone here speaks so highly of the little girl’s trait of treating those who are different with respect… yet if they found out their own child was going to have ds they would abort without a second thought… so i know, just by looking at these comments, people value more the appearance of looking tolerant and compassionate rather than actually being that…

    Keep up with these kind of interviews, HiHo. You really help a lot of people not just kids to understand more about other people or our society.

      레몬 People dislike pretty much all videos on TH-cam. The idea that some people get bent out of shape because those same kind of people who dislike all videos, also disliked this one, is a little bit low-key ableist on the part of people who just have to mention this one got a dislike too. Yeah, well now it’s like every other video on TH-cam.

    Its so happy to hear that all disability people always be happy and love themselves because they are able to achieve something that seems impossible..and also normal people cant do what they can do.
