- This was my grandpas' old Peugeot 404, one of the last produced models

it has not been started since more than a year and has some dirt from the old fuel in the carb
When doing engine starts be sure the place is well ventilated

This vehicle is a miracle, my father owns one, after 16 years asleep in the garage he started it up with no difficulties
My neighbor had a Peugeot 404 and he drove me and his son to our private school in it. It had a manual transmission on the steering column. He somehow magically shifted from second gear straight to fourth to save gasoline as he told me. To complete the picture, he wore a French beret which was definitely unusual for Oklahoma. He was a wonderful man. I will never forget him and his car.
I did also 2>4 when on flat roads.

When I was kid,i liked 504.But now I think,this one is my favorite Peugeot.You can see the quality,and simplicity,small vehicle(for north American standards of 1970's),but very roomy for a passengers.I want one!

In my country this car was very popular. I remember my father had one. Great car with low consumption. Diesel version was the first choice for taxi use in this time, 70`s & 80`s.

Bravo mec...c'etait la premiere voiture de mon papa qui avait passé son permis en 1978...il s'etait fait la main sur une 404 bleue nuit...il l'a gardé jusqu'en 1980, j'avais a peine 6 ans et je m'en rappelle comme si c'etait hier...j'etais toujours dehors a regarder la calandre ou le volant afin d'appercevoir ce magnifique lion...me souviens meme d'un hiver ou il l'avait démarré a la manivelle....super bonne voiture !

404 great cars can go for ever, lot of them went over 500.000 kms
The P 404's are great cars. There were many of those in The Netherlands in the 1970's.
I remember the Peugeot 404 Familiale which was a 7 seater, well ahead in the days.
404s are awesome! I had one that had sat in my front yard for 9 months without a start. The bloke who bought it off me put a freshly charged battery in it and it started on the the very first turn of the key! I was sorry to see it go. What a legend of a car!

Hello, i have a SL 67, with opening roof and leather seats. I am fond of it. You ought to repair yours. It looks in good condition. This kind of car is easy to be fixed and not expansive.

The style of the 404 is priceless the french make good cars, but when the style is so popular they stop making them only to replace it with somethings else, just because they did not sell parts, the car was so good, it barely broke down, but you have maintenance, fan belts, brakes, spark plugs, etc., it*s not that everyone had acces to get parts, but with today's technology, clubs, sorry that is a lame excuse.

Peugeot stop making them because they ware so reliable that they didn't sell any parts
They did make 2.8 million 404s you know. Shame there are so few about. It's the tin worm that gets them. I'd love another one, though mine was very decrepid and I paid £50 for it in 1978.
