This soundtrack went SO hard for absolutely no reason.
Wayy too hard. I'm taking this TH-cam video and adding the whole thing to my jazz/videogame music playlist. The drummer and the drum solos are out of this world
@@christopherstrother8784honestly!
@@christopherstrother8784 the drums are all alterations of the same sample, named Amen break because it's from The Winstons - Amen Brother. It is a famous break which was very popular in the end of the 90's / early 2000s and it's pretty popular in genres like Jungle, Drum and Bass, Breakcore. The original sample is amazing and that's why it's still very good even after 40+ years (it's dated back 1979)
The reason is because they could.
Dude wtf are you talking about all the bomberman soundtracks are hard June Chiluba did all of them because bomberman deserved a good soundtrack
Funny story, when I was a kid my mom would tell me to play bomberman hero just so she can listen to the soundtrack. Mindblowing
Nice mom mate
she's got good taste
That memory would definitely stick in my mind for the rest of my life. Thats the lucky shit we are blessed with I guess.
Same here
Tell your mom about jungle and drum and bass
A terribly underrated game.
I can't tell if you're stupid or...
Yes.
Again, read the whole comment. Understand what it is that I am saying. Are you even a native English speaker?
There you go! I used terribly as an adverb to get across how much the game is underrated.
+DangAssDan hell yeah dude, i still play this game often and listen to the soundtrack a lot as well lol. great memories from this game
Jun Chikuma deserves the world. What a legend - composed insane d&b osts for an obscure children's video game series, and then dipped.
Big props to her. I won't say every tune on this OST is good in fact some of them are pretty annoying but some of them are insanely good. The DnB and Jungle inspired tracks are very cool and those genres were far from the mainstream when this game released.

bomberman hero is the real reason why i love drum and base, house music and jazz.
+Kauli i was thinking about that today and i realized this ost was a big influence for me in music and other games too, in this case Bomberman Hero I associated its music with IDM and Ambient. Very cool!
That's what I've telling all my friends for years. This and Powerpuff Girls LOL. No shame.
for me Rollcage as well, the OST also has some massive DnB tunes for sure...
agreed.

this OST could stand on it's own as an album.
It technically is, the game itself serves as an album.
Cri Cat it has one actually its crazy rare though
It does in fact, CD's of this OST go for over 200 dollars online
Thank you Elliot Rodger, very cool!
@@Cri_Jackal I think I enjoyed fighting Nitro just to hear the track :D
DAMN i've been humming "Redial" for the last 8 years and i totally forgot it was from this game.
i'm crying of hapiness i finally found it =D
YES
Yea you're not the only one. That's my favorite music of bomberman.
omg mindBLOWN
Among the best video game tunes ever!
Me too lol... which brought me to youtube to search which bomberman game i heard it from.. and here I am.
they should remake the game with this soundtrack and recreate the vibe for the younger generation
the only thing that needs to be upgraded is the graphics
I never realized the N64 was that capable in producing this kind of music. It’s almost criminal how this game’s soundtrack isn’t brought up often
n64's musical production capabilities!? if you haven't yet, go listen to 007's goldeneye ost. itll blow you away.
N64's synth capabilities were one of the things that really set it apart
I heard a drum loop on instagram and I was like that sounds like boomerman but I played this when I was like 6 shows how we never forget things. But so much of this could be made into hip hop music and solid house music.
Also most of n64 sound tracks are ethereal super Mario 64 is good too
@@andrewleone8583 I'm gonna go ahead and say it, this soundtrack is better than the Goldeneye soundtrack. All nostalgia aside, the BM Hero soundtrack damn near sounds like some modern day breakbeat music. It is in my album rotation to this day, amongst Venetian
Snares and Machine Girl.
Dammit! Why can't more games have Drum n Bass/Jungle inspired tracks!?
I know! Jungle really takes me back in time, reminds me of old school video games and anime
why cant more life have more drum n bass/jungle inspired tracks???
Tycro Rogers If they do, I just hope they don't sound as repetitive and lacking of melodies as most of this game's songs.
Tycro Rogers Extreme G2 also has a DnB / Jungle inspired soundtrack
Axel Roy Prower Thanks for telling me about it! Any more games that was Jungle/DnB inspired? :)
OMG Redial just gave me the hugest nostalgia trip.
Reason I'm here
I clicked the time for this track as I read your comment and I swear I heard my mother ask me to go to bed. For a fraction of second I went back in time.
strong powerpuff girls vibe
xfalsetruth06x same
ReacesPieces Me too! I just came here for that particular track
Everything about this entire game was so trippy and bizarre.
it's funny how it's kinda become a cult game but at the time is was heavily criticized.
bf0189 It was heavily criticized? Man I loved this game as a kid.
tried it on weed??
What, a game where giant, fat chickens explode into smaller chickens, round balls move in formation while honking like car horns, Moai statues constantly rise and fall underwater, and a GIGANTIC bird laughs maniacally while a princess stands on the hands of a giant clock is trippy and bizarre?
...I agree. O_o
(Actually, that last one sounds like it could be from a Luis Buñuel film...)
not quite as bizarre and trippy as the Katamari series...but close.
I mean seriously, I'm a Composer, but I still can't quite think how She Came up with all this! They're all Beautifully arranged and each track has their own uniqueness, I mean, this is it!

@@joeschmoe5583 Grrrrr, the internet crumbles apart after a few years. I don’t know what my second link was for, probably another brilliant song from Faxanadu or some random extraordinarily brilliant tune from a Bomberman game or another one from DoReMi Fantasy. Partly inspired by her Dreams maybe
Japan has made some very innovative contributions to electronic music, especially with their wicked take on Jungle sound. The games they produced in the late 90's/ Early 2000's have some of the best soundtracks, and are some of the greatest games I have ever played.
This is good jungle and electronic. But is it really that different from other kinds that had existed prior?
Miss it. I truly do.

DAMN. As a kid playing this game, I never realized how brilliant its soundtrack was. It's so odd and catchy... I can still picture the levels as the music plays
They were mildly repetitive. in a GREAT WAY. it felt awesome to be excited and intimidated by the level, while amped up to improve by this music
Same. Very good ost. Didn't notice music as much back then or appreciate it... Especially when this game was my ass lol.
I could just see myself playing it right now...
still cant believe i was about 10 when this game was new, man where has the time gone? Im glad i remembered something about this ost was legendary, remembering catchy beats but not quite remembering where they came from, Bomber man Hero.
Kickass soundtrack. I'd call it one of the most underrated, but it doesn't even appear on the VGM ratings I've seen. This OST needs more visibility.
theeggman85 Jun Chikuma’s other soundtracks (DoReMi Fantasy, and SNES Bomberman Games, also Faxanadu) should be on everybody’s lists. But nobody even knows. Right alongside Earthbound, Final Fantasy, Super Metroid, and Mario.

I didn't know it then, but this soundtrack would shape my music taste for life. Absolutely love drum and bass, jungle, house, all of EDM really.
To anyone it may apply to or who's looking for it, the drum riff in Redial is called the Amen Break. It's used in a lot of stuff, especially from the 90s.
I think it's probably Hot Pants (Bonus Beats) by Bobby Byrd (another very common 90s break). It is very bitcrushed so I'm not certain, but I'm confident it's not the Amen.
@@SolarionSeadragonI don’t know how you can’t hear the Amen Break in Redial. Granted, it’s sped up magnitudes higher than the original and chopped/arranged slightly - but it is most DEFINITELY the Amen Break and definitely not Hot Pants…
@@marvaff6878 Absolutely not. It might not be Hot Pants (could be the Think break) but it's NOT the amen.

The power of music.
I was at my cottage and the local convenience store had Bomberman Hero for rent so I tried it. I remember putting it in my Pikachu N64. I had the game for the weekend and I still remember the feeling of playing it and hearing the soundtrack. I was blown away by the music and I really liked Redial. It's such a great track. I remember that even my father said something like: "Hey, the music is pretty good". The vibe this game has seemed to fit perfectly with the laid back atmosphere of that particular weekend.
Good usage of the trending jungle throughout the 90s. 2nd gen retro games really made use of strong ambience.
listen to this soundtrack while its raining its unreal
Never appreciated that drop in Tripod at 30:32 as a kid as much as I do now.

Much of the genres that I hear today sound like this. I love knowing how this game shaped my musical tastes since my childhood
Death Grips - Government plates, It sounds like they sampled something from Bomberman Hero.
I always wondered why I liked Drum and Bass a lot, sure enough I found this game that I used to play as a kid and realize why. It's amazing how much of an influence music you listen to when you're younger has an influence on your favorite genres when you get older. I don't consider this OST the best music I've heard but it's cool to revisit this OST after I haven't listened to it in 15 years.

"Since 1992, she has studied ney performance and Tunisian style composition under professors Slah Manaa, Ali Sriti and Zakia Hannashi at l'Institut Superieur de la Musique de Tunis, and studied riq under Haytham Farghaly of the same institute."
wasnt the drugs (the drugs are better now especially the weed) but it was a much happier time, more optimism about the future in the late 90s, with the millenium coming, 9/11/Patriot Act didn't happen yet, there was many boybands and girls like Britney Spears, Spice Girls, Christina Aguilera etc. A lot of the best electronic music such as trance, techno and DnB was made in 1997-2003 then autotune and EDM/vocalized pop versions of electronic music
