This is what some people need to understand, having an (expensive) camera doesn't make you a photographer. It's the assembling if the picture, foreground, background, lighting. Nicely done!

Great angles and nice silhouette, but why that washed out filter in the final print?

Need camera with good dynamic range, fast shutter speeds and set on burst mode. Learn how to do ‘back button focus’ if your DSLR allows for it...most wildlife and sports photographers swear by it.
Kit lenses that come with cameras usually won’t cut it for sharp action in low light conditions so you’d need a flash (which would probably piss people off). Spend money fast lenses that take a lot of light in even in darker settings. If you watch the IFSC comps, Eddie uses expensive prime lenses with (I think a canon 1DX mark iii) so he can capture pin sharp images at a distance, with nice depth of field and all without interfering with the climbers. (Of course they probably cover the cost of his kit!) .

Hey I know this comment is old butr what focus mode would you choose? I struggle having always the hands and the holds in focus. Should I stay with the S mode or the auto mode? (Nikon user here)

@@ZwittRion I’d maybe look at something like auto iso and aperture of about f5.6 or f8 (shutter speeds of 400-1000 depending on light). ( focus where you want the action then use back button focus to keep the lock and recompose) and fire off the few shots in burst then. The more you shoot the chances are good at getting some sharp. Get a willing buddy to practice with on easy routes or go to a lake etc to practice on wildlife to freeze the action. ( check TH-cam for setting your Nikon up for sport capture - I use canon so can’t help too much). Best of luck though!
