    A video from 10 years ago 100% helped me today. I was able to pull into an AutoZone with my dead clutch, borrow a 12mm, some shop rags, a screwdriver and some Dot 4 and get back on the road.
    Invaluable video, sir. Thank you for putting this together.

    I haven't tried any of this yet, but at least someone took the time to document the steps to try. I've been riding my Goldwing for 15 years and I just assumed it had a clutch cable like my old Honda 350. LOL I went to adjust the cable this morning... then went to the manual.... then went to TH-cam. Thanks for the post Steve.

    THIS! I spent four days wondering why clutch wont work on my VT750c Shadow 83'.. tried almost all air bleeding techniques. Had my clutch opened twice. Until I found this video and it worked instantly! Thank you very much sir!

    Thank you so much!! My clutch stopped disengaging while I was about 30 miles from home today, thankfully someone nearby had a 12mm wrench that I was able to disconnect the line from the reservoir with and bleed enough to get me home.

    Saved me today. Have rebuilt many slave cylinders and bled with no problem. Did master and slave this time so system was dry. Priming the master with finger over the port then banjo bleed was the trick. Clutch came back in about two minutes.

    Have you ever tried just holding the lever closed over night? I did this with my bike and it worked. Today when I leveled bike several big air bubbles came out of the master and it started to work just fine. The more I pumped I could see more air bubbles come out.

    • @djboma137
      @djboma137 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds like that would work about as well as burning incense and sprinkling the bike with holy water. It might be with the lever closed, the system would be under pressure and maybe??? the air bubbles would work their way to the top of the system where the master cylinder is? Sounds hokey, but people used to think claims that the Earth was actually round sounded hokey, so I could just be scientifically challenged as to why the method you describe may actually work.

    • @saxjonz
      @saxjonz 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It works. I did it that way and less mess. Apparently there are a lot of air bubbles that come up at the top. It took me about half hour of pumping and holding open handle. Going off to other things then come back to it and watch all the bubbles come up then pump it up again.

    Now if I can find out how the air got in the line to begin with

    My 85 Aspencade, I have the clutch in, put it in gear, kills the engine. Like clutch isn't working? Got dirty fluid and I clean out master cylinder, refilled it. I didn't clean out complete system though. Could be I need to bleed it all out with new fluid? I'm not ready to spend big money.

    Run fluid up to master cylinder from bleeder fitting .Small plastic with hose, put fluid in and squeeze. Do all brakes the same. Then ride like u stole it.

  • @BarryonPiano

    Thank you!! Great Video!! Question though. I have a GL1500, should there be any play at all in the clutch handle? Also, approx. how far from the handle bar grip should the clutch handle be before it engages the transmission. Currently I have about a fingers width. Two more questions... I bled the clutch using your method at the bango bolt and that worked great but my question is if I never loosened the clutch slave cylinder do I still need to go through the bleeding process there as well? So that you know, my fluid level window is a little hard to judge and my fluid got too low which is what I presume caused my problem in the first place, I needed to add fluid even though I have seen no evidence of loss of fluid. I park the same place in my garage and the concrete ground is completely clean. Any Idea's on where I could have lost so much fluid? Thank you once again for this very informative video, as I am not mechanically inclined, you made this job so easy for even me. Thank you!!

    When I do anything with the master brake cylinder I use the plastic as in this video but I also put an old bath towel on the plastic to keep any of the over flow from running and or pooling on the plastic. This is a very informative video on bleeding the clutch

    I was having heck of a time. Even used vacuum pump. Never got Resistance on lever.
    Did the trick and finally got resistance. Bike was on center stand and still couldn't turn tire by hand.
    Bike has been sitting for years so thought maybe clutch stuck or that's just how it is. Put it against a wall, pulled clutch and dropped gear. Jerked forward then good. Clutch feels nice and disengages trans.
    👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

    Re: Goldwing Cluch Bleeding Tip
    Thank you Steve Sanders, I followed your tip on cluch bleeding & within a few minutes got my Goldwing shifting again. I had visions of a large bill if I took it in for repairs. Besides, I needed to have it picked up by a flat bed tow truck as it is a trike. It's an excellant 2001, but the fluid level window is very cloudy & I can't see the fluid level unless I remove the cap. Thanks again, Jerry

    Another success story. 1999 Kawasaki Drifter had to pull soft clutch lever in all the way to shift. I reverse bled with syringe and was worse. Searched youtube for help, found this vid. Covered tank, clear plastic over master cylinder, little rag around banjo bolt and loosened it, pulled in lever and tightened bb before releasing. Did it twice and it's perfect. Thank you for posting video!

    I had not had my 1986 Honda Goldwing 1200 interstate for about three months and one evening i wanted to clean my white walls on my bike. I was washing and pushing the bike forward to get to the rest of the tires and I lost my balance and the bike went down. I raised the bike back back and finished my tires and.when I was finished I started the bike and when I put it in gear it stalled. To make a long story short the fluid resvoir was low and when it tipped it got air in the line. Thanks to this video I bled the resvoir and checked the fluid again DOT 4 I bled it one more time and topped off the fluid and i am on the road again. Thanks to this video I am a very happy Rider.

    Sounds like more than a hydraulic problem, if the clutch is slipping. Thy hydraulics is for disengaging the clutch, so when it fails, the clutch is typically fully engaged. Maybe you have worn out clutch that needs replacing? And you probably need to replace all the fluid and bleed out the air Good luck.

    you could use some well placed rags and not be so sloppy , why get the brake fluid all over the place like that , that's going to bleed out of everything and everywhere for days , even if you wipe it up if someone payed a shop to fix the bike and it starts bleeding oil out of places on the first sunny day or too ,,o god no , the S.M.s head will roll ,

    You saved my sanity . . . for a day. My Suzuki Intruder's clutch was not firming up, after a fluid change. Air was hiding in the master cylinder just as you showed. Bleeding at the banjo fixed it. Obviously there's an air trap where the tube line goes in. Thanks!

    What if you bleed it and it feels good, only to slowly gain air and go completely soft after a few days? I hear a sucking sound near the reservoir cap on lever release, I noticed in this video you had a plastic thing between the rubber diaphragm and reservoir cap, mine doesn't have that. Am I missing something?

    • @NorsePaganFrost
      @NorsePaganFrost 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      AngryVikingwGuitar Yeah. It should go accordingly;
      Top: Black outer plastic cover.
      Middle: White plastic barrier, groove side down.
      Bottom: Black rubber diaphragm.
