    I went to a pawn shop and saw a guitar for $35. It had a few missing strings, broken bridge, and the pin thingies that hold the strings in place. I bought it, went on TH-cam to figure out how to fix it. Spent a grand total of $74.29 after tax on my guitar. I then decided to learn how to play it and that's how I discovered Marty Music.

    Being a Gilmour Girl, I went in to buy a Stat for my first guitar but came out with a Squier Affinity Tele, it just felt "right" in my hands. It definitely wasn't a guitar I'd ever have thought of buying before and was definitely at the lower end of my budget - I'd expected to pay a lot more - but as soon as I picked it up I knew it was the guitar for me. It's not flashy with tons of bells and whistles but it was just "the one" for me. I've bought guitars of all styles (and prices) over the Internet since, even built a few, and they've been great, but I firmly believe that you really need to hold several styles of guitars before you know which one is right for your first guitar. That Tele is still my go to guitar - I love it as much today as I did the first day I brought it home and plugged it in.

    The Epiphone packs are really poor quality compared to the Squier pack with the Strat HSS. Fender has a better amp too. The craftsmanship is superior also. I bought my son the Epiphone SG and it was junk and has zero trade value.
    I personally like the value of the ESP LTD Les Paul copy.

      @MartyMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Love the new Epiphones, no quality issues on mine. BUT totally agree with Joe. If you're gonna go the Fender style route, Tagima is a MUCH better bang for your buck than anything in the Squier world.

      @@MartyMusic The new Epiphones are great, and the older LP Special II is also pretty good. On the other hand, the amp that comes with the Epi player pack is pretty bad, so people buying the pack should certainly invest in a better amp.

    I just started about 4 years ago. I started with the Affinity series Telecaster and Marshall MG30. But I made much bigger strides in my ability once I moved on to the Epiphone G400 Pro and Marshall Code 25. The SG guitar shape was so much easier to play for me and it's so light. I've never used the Boss Katana so I can't say if I'd recommend that over the Code.

  • @wildesage4172
    @wildesage4172 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can only recommend buying used. Facebook marketplace and Craigslist alone have more guitar deals than you could buy in a lifetime. If you're not sure how to buy used, you'll need to do one of the following:
    1. Study up until you know what to look for, and what price to pay.
    2. Find someone who's knowledgeable to help you hunt down a good used guitar. Use your own/your parents/your siblings' social media to reach out to friends of friends of friends. All you need is someone to loan a little bit of their time to help you look. Many gear nerds hunt for deals all the time anyway, so they just have to send you the link if they find something that looks good. Make sure you tell them not only what your budget is, but also what kind of a deal hunt you're in for. For example, you might say "My budget is $250, and I'm looking for the best deal I can possibly find", or "My budget is $300, and I'm looking for something that's more than half off it's original price". Or, "My budget is $250, and I want a good discount, but I'm not wanting to search for more than a couple weeks". In other words, you're determining how hard and how long the two of you have to look. You can find a decent deal every day. You can find an amazing deal every week. You can find an unreal deal every month or two. Inform them if you're looking for the deal of the year, or just a decent price on a good guitar within a small period of time. No one's gonna give you ALL their time. They're doing you a favor. Be honest, but realistic.
    3. Buy used at a music store. You'll pay more, but just buy at a place that provides some kind of warranty/support, to make sure you're not getting a lemon.
    >Skip Reverb and Ebay. Although you're buying used, you'll pay top-dollar used prices on these sites (in my experience). Unless it was forwarded to you by someone from #2 above, and they vouch for the price. These sites are where everyone goes when they want a SPECIFIC used guitar, asap; whatever guitar you're trying to buy, everyone else who wants THAT exact guitar is also coming there to buy it.
    >Try to get a guitar with a hard-shell case (HSC) included. A HSC usually retails for around $100. If not, look for some kind of bundle. If there's two identical guitars for sale, and one is 35 bucks more, but includes a hard-shell case, go for that one, obviously.
    >When the seller lists their asking price, always ask "is that the best you can do?". They'll often go slashing money right off the top just from that question.
    >Below are the specific manufacturers I would recommend looking for, in roughly this order.
    -Schecter: Just hunt until you find one well below MSRP. You will, it's just a matter of time. Just in the last month I've seen $300 for a $700 guitar, and $800 for a $1,600 guitar.
    -Gretsch: Occasionally an Electromatic pops up for well below MSRP. Streamliners already retail low, so they very rarely come up cheap. Sometimes, yes, but very rarely.
    -Danelectro: Sometimes they'll pop up at

    Marty, the new student should go to the local music store and try out different guitars. After you know what you want, then you can buy local or on line. I watched so many guitar videos. I even bought your Acoustic program. I wished ONE would have told me the importance of the width of the Nut and the size of one's fingers. I love the Taylor Academy 12e I purchased. I am struggling to learn chords without buzz of adjacent string because I have large fingers. I learned the Trumpet in Junior High School, 1970 - 1972, so I can read sheet music. All is different with the guitar. I might have been more comfortable with a Seagull Guitar with the wider nut. I am very frustrated with the slowness of my progress because the sweet sounding Taylor nut is narrow. I am not giving up.

    I bought my first guitar this month it was that exact Epiphone Les Paul studio LT in black it was the only one they had it was the floor model and I had it maybe 4 days and had to take it back cause me and 2 of my friends and they’re age 60 and 73 and they been playing guitars their whole lives and they couldn’t get it to stay in tune and I picked the guitar up to take a picture of it to send to a friend of mine and I didn’t even touch the knobs and one of the chrome pieces that says volume fell off so I called them took it back along with the amp I had bought (fender Mustangs LT25) cause it had to be tuned on the computer no thanks not for me so I took that stuff back ordered a Squire Affinity Series HSS had it shipped to my house and it showed up yesterday and it had a crack in the body on the upper side of it next to the neck and I bought a used Fender Champion 100 amp and I gotta go get it tomorrow and the guitar center I’m goin too they just had a truck come in they told me I can swap the guitar out for another one they apologized cause I’ve been having so many issues and I told them it ain’t their fault so tomorrow I’m gonna go and hopefully get a good guitar I’m about to say to heck with it and just get money back and go back to workin on my 68 chevelle it’s like god or the universe don’t want me to have a guitar
    Also I really like your videos ive learned more from them than anyone else guitar related

    Well, this is a sponsoring video, Those beginner sets are only good if you want to know if you want to stick to the playing of a guitar and give it a try, but those guitars from Epiphone or squire are on that price levels not well manufactured. Harley Benton in fact are atleast well done, so you could upgrade them and they will feel good while you play. I can recommend a hollowbody guitar for a beginner its good especially for the courses that Marty offers, but I would buy a proper one from Epiphone they cost around 400 bucks. Aswell I can recommend the Katana Amp, but cheaper you can buy a Vox AV15 with lesser functions but great price value. If you dont like the guitar you wont keep playing it, so go to a store and pick the one you like most. Especially Ibanez are very easy to play but they start at around 350 bucks, the cheaper ones sound bad. But thats my taste, Iam not happy with cheap guitars. And as soon as you pick the more expensive ones, you will know why ( for example a PRS that starts at 1000 bucks), well but a beginner should never buy a more expensive guitar that 600, at that price your guitar will be good.

    Does anyone know what the "3 Payments of $93.31" means? A lot of these have a variation of that and I'm not sure what that means exactly.
