Agreed leave them at work. They'll likely argue that they're keeping track of the tablet/phone/laptop with no intention of tracking the person.

@@kennyc587That is why many companies do it, and it has come in handy for recovering lost devices. Any company using MDM or EMM software to manage a fleet of devices (and deploy updates /apps to them remotely) has the option to track them for recovery. Our staff use the tracker app to find co-workers out in the field.
So long as they let the staff know, CN isn’t doing something abnormal.

I work for them. How is that bad? This is an unique job, you were being told what it’s like to be on the spareboard, which has no defined work hours, they call you when they need you in order of the board.

I leave my company devices at home or work. BUT monitoring usually involves a backdoor agreement between the RCMP and the Business Agent for the Union in the area. I've VERY familiar with railroad union brothers cutting private deals with CP rail. trucking companies associated.

Invasion of privacy since they are off work hours. They don’t tell the workers because it’s not professional and not appreciate overall to track them off hours since workers are not getting paid.

This is a common practice for device recovery, (lost, stolen, off boarding staff), but they need to let staff know.

iPhone has a setting that allows all contacts to see your location. It is hidden in another menu. Learned. ABout it after I received some strange phone call from a contact. Obviously they knew where I was and asked what I was doing there. They asked if I was going into an office ?

I always take my company phone into the bathroom with me for #2. I am worried my employer knows how I conduct business and may steal my technique.

Most company trucks are tracked everywhere they go, I'm pretty sure it's a requirement in order to get fleet insurance. They know exactly where those vehicles are in real time.

We already have multiple cameras inside every single locomotive now, they have the abilities to see into the washroom on the locomotive. CN pushed this towards transport canada and made it legally required.
