Tenía miedo de que yo no pudiera ir a la reunion. (He was scared that I couldn't come to the meeting.)
Ibas a enviarme un cheque para que pudiera pagar el alquiler. (You were going to send me a check so that I could pay the rent.)
So I worked really hard on these to come up with examples of poder in the imperfect subjunctive. I only cheated a little. I had to take sentences from other videos and conjugate them in the yo form.

For me the hardest one is the imperfect subjunctive. "Si yo pudiera"
I did give this video a like and will add it to my Single Spanish verb conjugation and use play list.

Sí, el imperfecto del subjuntivo es complicado.

Hiciste la cena para que yo pueda llegar a casa a descansar.
You made dinner so that I can get home and rest. Showing off my subjunctive skills!
I have listened to this video over and over again. Poder is a really important verb to practice until we have it perfectly!

I get some of these mixed up. So, pudiera to me is like "I could have" and podría is "I could" is that right?

Hi John, I think you are asking a really good question here. First of all be warned that "poder" is an irregular verb so it us a little hard to remember how to conjugate.
The easy one "podría" is I am able to in the conditional tense. Since English does not have a conditional tense it uses helper words like " would" and "could".
So to say I would help you, you could say
Te ayudaría. (Ayudar in conditional tence)
To be more fancy you could say
      Te ayudaría se pudiera
I would help you if I could. If you ask me the proper way to use the conditional tense would be to say things like "I would xxx if yyy" so that there is a condition placed on the action.
Notice that pudiera is in the "imperfect subjunctive" tense. So I guess that "could" can some times be translated as "pudiera" as in the example above, but to tell you the truth I don't understand the imperfect subjunctive tense very well.
One tip I can give you is to use this app called SpanishDict. I use it all the time. I like the free version that makes you watch adds. That is how I came up with all these conjugations. All you need to do is enter a Spanish verb and hit the conjugation tab and it will show your all the conjugation.
By the way I let thus short loop over and over while I typed typed this to give Paula a lot of views.

Thanks. I've got the Barron's 501. I should probably just flip back and forth between "poder" and the table of tenses. I'm actually pretty good with the conjugations. It's just the situations that confuse me sometimes.

El señor Dios hizo que los cubiese una piel de color oscuro.
This is a scripture I am studying with some Spanish speaking missionaries.
For a long time it was very hard to understand why the verb "cubrierse" which is the imperfect subjunctive version of "cubrir" was used here.
