He betrayed his wife then got mad bc she was angry that he betrayed his vow to her. He put another over his wife and only regretted later, I never understood regretting too late. It does no good, nothing gets solved. She forgave him on her deathbed for all he had done to her yet she stayed by his side. Hope that haunted him to his last days...
I feel sorry for her choice, but in the end she herself choose to keep giving him limitless love, even when he keeps hurting her. So, she did it herself to herself. One cannot be saved if he/she choose to harm themselves.

And for children , more the number of children more will be helpful for political marriages. So he can't keep his sword in sheath.

Utterly heartbreaking scene, he never would have become the Emperor without her she was truly magnificent as his wife and partner, he didn’t deserve her. She obviously didn’t know the path their lives would take when she asked him if he could commit to only ever having one wife to loving one woman, but he broke that commitment and it broke her heart quite literally, it wasn’t as if the empire was short of heirs they had 6 children together including males!!!. He didn’t even try to make it up to her and instead of coming into see her when she was seriously I’ll he cowardly stood outside her door!!, hopefully he lives with that regret and torment for the rest of his sorry life along with their spoilt children.
