- I started my US road trip with a 10 Day Silent Meditation Course called Vipassana at the Dhamma Patapa Vipassana Meditation Center in Jesup, GA. I did not do any research going in and thought it would be a relaxing massage of the mind (kind of like laying down and experiencing savasana in yoga), but in reality it was more of a meditation bootcamp and one of the hardest things that I have done in my life. It was very physically, emotionally, and mentally challenging to meditate for 7-8 hours a day without moving. 😳 I practiced some serious discipline.
It was also one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. I connected with my body and emotions in a very deep way. I connected deeply with my value of being open minded and flourished the value of not being judgmental. I lived in the present moment and watched how time felt significantly slower than what I was used to.
I learned how to let go of the thoughts out of my head, create a sharpened awareness, as well as learn how to be less reactive and remain stable minded. It was fascinating to experience feeling pain but not having to “suffer” mentally while feeling it. I found it helpful to remember the law of impermanence and that the unpleasant/pleasant feelings will come and go. This experience has inspired me to reread “Man's Search for Meaning” by Viktor Frankl.
I felt very emotional the day after getting out of the 10 day course, coming back to normal life, and having a deepened awareness of the anxiety and some of the same mental challenges that I had experienced before the retreat.
Overall, I’m really grateful that I went and am inspired to make changes in my life to be more present and less reactive in life. 😌🙏🏼
Here is a video of me explaining what I experienced!
Thank you for this video really 😊
Thank you for this honest video. Your explanation of mind body was very helpful. I am doing my first course next week in Idaho. Feeling anxious and excited. Thanks again for the great video.
You’re very welcome. Sorry for the late response. How was your experience!?
