Ms. Keiko Matsui, one of the three memembers of the band, is now teaching at a college in Japan. She has been in USA for some years and has been awarded for her excellence by a US smooth jazz committee in 2000 and 2001. In Japan in 80s, so many TV and radio programs put songs of smooth jazz bands, such as, Cosmos, Casiopea (Japanese), Fruitcake (Dutch), Mezzoforte (Icelandic), and Shakatak (UK), on air.
I clicked on this because I thought the name of the band was "Japanese Synthesizer Band." Now that I realize their name was Cosmos, I'm going to start a band called Japanese Synthesizer Band. Wish me luck.
Nice solo with the CS01 and a BC1 breath controller. I tried to use one of them with my DX100 and ended up drowning in my own drool. Thankfully that was back in the 80's and the carpet has dried up since then.
Yeah!! Keiko Matsui playing a breath controller!!!. There is a lot of nice keyboards!!. But exist another band like that today? I mean... 3 girls in synthesizers playing... progressive, or new age, or classic? Think about it.
@Nicg Two different bands... This is Cosmos the japanese jazz fusion group. The band you're thinking of is Cosmos the Japanese avant-garde/experimental group. Incidentally, the album "Tears" is available for purchas on allmusic.com
Suteki!! What a beautiful music! So soft e-piano, synleads, crystal vintage drumms ...mmm sweet! Doumo arigatou for this video! P.S. Before this I knew only Yellow Magic Orchestra) Thank you again =)
Do you know that one of this beautiful girls is a legendary Keiko Matsui? =) It`s her first professional music project. Heh... Last night she playing a concert in my city ^^ Unforgettable!! I have her signature and photos =)
This is pretty good. I only notice that the flow of the piece feels 'condensed' because it moves from one section to the next quite fast, hence the slightly "elevator music" feel. Perhaps if the separate sections were given more time to develop, it would begin to feel less like an "accompaniment". After all, there is only -one- solo lasting longer than 8 bars! In any case, I find the overall feeling groovy in an interestingly clean and classy manner. It's evident in the way they dress too.
Remind a little bit hte music from a Jazz fusion band call Casiopea that i recommand to everybody. I have to admit that these women are great musicians
Cool, I can't recall having seen anyone actually use the breath controller before. Yamaha left a breath controller input off of the latest Motif - probably because it was rarely used
How should I say? I've always took it as... erm... "galaxy-shooting-stars-type-romanticism-LSD-trip" kind of thing? The band Casiopea takes inspiration from the same source but executes it differently. COSMOS just does it lighthearted. But if I take it as something trying to do what it obviously isn't, then it has a slightly cheesy quality to it. I don't like it that way, of course, so I take it the way I think it should: the way that feels most fitting.
I don't know if I feel like dancing with Julie on the LOVE BOAT or going on a car chase with CHIPS....Hey Isaac, I'll have a drink with an umbrella in it!!!!
@seaboatsk While a number of those bands did cross over into Smooth Jazz at times, it's important to note that they were mainly Jazz Fusion - which was far more popular than Smooth Jazz in Japan throughout the '80s. Especially Casiopea.

What is she doing now?
Mrs. Keiko Matsui (Ms. Keiko Doi, played and composed this song) plays solo now US for the world. She just released new album on March ,2023.
Thanks for the other band references. I intend on checking them out

How is your band going?
can I join ?
Good luck
Keiko Doi salah satu musisi yg sangat mempengaruhi seleraku dlm mendengar musik tahun tahun 80an.. (Music Science)
i'd love to live in a world where this is the most popular band in the world
whoah!
Nice solo with the CS01 and a BC1 breath controller. I tried to use one of them with my DX100 and ended up drowning in my own drool. Thankfully that was back in the 80's and the carpet has dried up since then.
haha nice :)
this is great. just love it!
the girl with the Breath Controller is God.
Her name is Keiko Matsui.
Yeah!! Keiko Matsui playing a breath controller!!!.
There is a lot of nice keyboards!!.
But exist another band like that today? I mean... 3 girls in synthesizers playing... progressive, or new age, or classic?
Think about it.
I remember that Breath controller thing
Earth Wind and Fire's Musical director had one around '92
@Nicg

Wow this is beyond amazing!!! Thank you for this footage :)
Just wonderful I love it. Classy band.
I swear listening to this reminds me of playing the older Castlevania games from late 90’s and early 2000’s very cool!
Thanks! I listened through all that I could find about them today! And I ordered the «Dream City»-album!
This should have been the music on the game Out Run.
The neme of this song is "Spiral Dream".
Nowadays someone of them is famous jazz
musician 'Keiko Matsui' in USA.
its got a great 70's rnb feel to it, very tight!
Getting massive "Yasuha - Flyday Chinatown" vibes from this entire medley.
@HyperFoxIII
The synth is "Yamaha CS-01". The breath controller with which it is used is the "Yamaha BC-1 Breath Controller".
That was Keiko (later become Keiko Matsui)
The song is "Spiral Dream" from the 1983 album, "Musitopia".

Very nice… Loved that piano solo… ☮🔥
Key tar!!! With a breath controller!!! OMG!!!❤❤❤
one of the top keyboards is a DX7 white customized. Nice :)
sounds like the grandmother of "Welcome to My Computer"
This is what I come to youtube for
Young Keiko Matsui-san (Doi) ...
the female YMO ?
I'm almost certain this was a group manufactured by Yamaha to advertise synths. Just like how Firstman synths made Cosmic Invention.
You are a good joke
I love them!!! I have always wanted to be that CS-01.
A music to put Into a Mother's game
XD
This is like a jazzy version of Popcorn. I am looking for a breath controller like that for my PC music experiement.
Remind a little bit hte music from a Jazz fusion band call Casiopea that i recommand to everybody. I have to admit that these women are great musicians
That's like one hundred of my favourite things all at once...
Cool, I can't recall having seen anyone actually use the breath controller before. Yamaha left a breath controller input off of the latest Motif - probably because it was rarely used
This is either the soundtrack for a CHips Car chase or a night on the Love Boat.
Funny shit man!
I don't know what is this but I love it. What is the band??
I think their band name is Cosmos I could be wrong however
@@Mobius_Ap3x oh, thank you!

Idk.. but since i am a HUGE sonic gamer, this song perfectly fits into sonic games. :)
Love the song.
best band ever!!!
This is my dream goal to play like this
Ah fuck yes dancing to them here in TEXAS....😜😜😜🔥🔥🔥💪💪💪💪
A re-painted DX7 in the center spot! Me likes it!

Oh very cool uplifting song. Love it.
Sounds like the theme song to a great Anime

@SamDelil 00:54 the one at the top. Check the shape, warning text, audio outputs..etc. Also, look the side panels.

in the Colosseum in Pokemon Collosseum
Idols should be like...
